This is so messy all around.  It actually makes more sense that Rumple would use it on himself to rid himself of the dagger (even though he clearly doesn’t want that) rather than using them on Belle.

I agree. Mostly free will is given reign, but certain things seem predestined – true loves getting together for example, or Merlin’s prophecies. My theory is that this is related to the prophecy of a boy being Rumple’s undoing. That was never resolved, and it could well be Morfetus. So this could be the fate Rumple is trying to cleave himself from.

I don’t think Rumple plans to use the shears on Belle, rather he plans to use them on himself. The EQ assumed he planned to use them for Belle and he just didn’t correct her.

    Who came up with that?

I think @Gaultheria was the first one who coined it and it stuck with us.

I’m in camp “he meant himself” Perhaps he’s come to believe he’s cursed to keep pushing away those he loves, and sees this as an escape route. I wonder what the price is.

    So I’ve a theory…..

Okay, so lets assume Rump does intend to cut Belle’s destiny. What if–like with cleaving the darkness from the dark one or with trying to get rid of fear with the night root plant thing–when a person’s destiny is cut, it manifests in the physical world? Perhaps that is why a grownup Morfetus is the one under the hood. He is Belle’s destiny literally cut away from her.

Okay, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s crazy. But you guys can see what I kind of mean right?

Hmm. I have a lot of conflicting feelings about that.

–On the one hand, it does seem like something the show would do

–On the other, it suggests that Belle’s only destiny is to give birth which makes my skin crawl. But it’s in keeping with how this show views women in general.

–On the one hand it still doesn’t make a lick of sense that Morfetus is under that hood no matter what plot device comes into play

–On the other, does sense even matter anymore?

I’m sure the show would find some way to make it sound less cringy. Her son being her destiny could mean she was meant to be a great mother, a source of True Love, which is of course the most powerful thing ever. We already know Morfetus’s love for his mama was enough to wake her up just as Emma did with Henry. Perhaps having True Love itself is destiny. Cutting it away from her might be some pretty bad magic to meddle in if that is the case. Especially if you see this as a forced magical abortion that not only forcibly tears a mother away from her child, but disrupts the destined magical forces of True Love. It’d make it easier to buy that Morfetus is under that hood as he is the personification of what happens when 1) Someone screws with destiny 2) What happens when you muck up True Love and 3) he’d be an angry, unloved child of True Love. He is Emma’s opposite in every way. If True Love is destiny, Emma is destiny fulfilled while he is destiny disrupted.

This gets worse the more I think about it.
