OK, so we saw a suggestion at the end of this episode that Snow might get a bit darker and try to kill Cora but were they giving us a hint that Emma might do the same? In the scene outside the pizza parlor, Emma was dressed entirely in black. I don’t recall ever seeing her in all black before, except possibly at Archie’s “funeral”. She looked like her clothes had come from Regina’s closet! Also, in that scene, Mr. Gold says to her “You’re starting to sound a lot like Regina.”
Do you think the black is just meant to symbolise that she has fallen off the pedestal Henry had placed her upon, now that he knows both of his moms have lied to him, or could it suggest that, like Snow, Emma is willing to consider more desperate measures to get rid of Cora?

Emma does for her mother what Snow couldn’t do for hers?
Hmmm.
March 5, 2013 at 11:46 pm #177452KebParticipantWell, Emma told Regina in last season’s finale that if Henry died, she would too. Emma’s on the side of good but she’s always had a dark side. So I think we could easily see it if Henry or her parents are threatened.

I like that idea. I definitely think we’ll see that candle again. I’m assuming one of the “good guys” (probably Snow, as you say) will get killed and someone (probably Emma) will use it bring her back by killing Cora. Even if they kill Cora, I hope we will still get to see Barbara Hershey in flashbacks!

Good point. I was sloppy in my phrasing. I should have said “fatally injure” instead of “kill” since the candle can’t bring back the dead but can heal someone on the brink of death.
March 9, 2013 at 1:59 pm #178451RumplesGirlKeymasterI think Dark Emma might be explored at some point, if not with this story. This is how I see it playing out: at some point Emma’s going to start learning magic, probably from Rumple. We’ve all seen how magic is a lot like a drug, the power is very intoxicating. I can see Emma becoming very enamored of magic (much like Regina did) and exploring the dark side of magic. However, I don’t think that exploration will last for very long because I think the show has set Emma up to a be a very powerful force for good, her being the offspring of true love AND the savior and all. Dark Emma would be fun to watch and I hope they explore it maybe S3 or even S4 but, eventually she’s going to be working for the good side.

March 9, 2013 at 9:46 pm #178553SlurpeezParticipantEmma is, and always will be, a force for good, since she is true love incarnate. I don’t see her going dark. I do, however, see a darker Snow on the horizon, with Emma and Prince Charming trying to figure out how to bring her back towards the side of good.

March 9, 2013 at 9:54 pm #178555RumplesGirlKeymasterI don’t necessarily see her going dark so much as discovering the Dark Arts and struggling between the power of the Dark (probably for noble purposes) and the rightness of the Light. If we want her to be a fully fledged character, isn’t it important to let her explore (even minimally) all avenues? Is being good simply being born as the incarnate of good or is it seeing and recognizing the power of darkness and choosing the other path? I know this isn’t parallel but even Harry Potter thought about abandoning the search for the Horcruxes and going after the power of the Deathly Hallows because having all of them would make him invincible. (again, I know this isn’t parallel because Harry wasn’t “true love incarnate” but I’m throwing it out there.)
