Bae seemed surprised that Emma could use magic. Maybe not everyone can access their emotions in quite that way. I think of it like acting. Everyone can pretend, but clearly some people are so much better at conveying complex emotions that it is almost like magic the way they can portray so much.

March 11, 2013 at 10:01 am #178931PheeParticipantI liked that they showed Rumple teaching each of them a different way to summon magic. I hope it shows his own evolution in what he believes for himself. Like I said in another thread, he could have said to Emma, “Think how much you hate the people you want kept out,” but instead he said, “Think how much you want to protect the ones you love.”

This is a great explanation IMO!

I am very interested to see how Hook will respond to the killing of Cora. He and Cora had a very shaky alliance and now that Rumple is fully healed and immortal once more, will Hook go after Bae? Or Henry?
Is it possible that Cora gave Hook the poison and sent him after Rumple? I mean, Cora wanted to be The Dark One, I don’t believe that was just a spur of the moment change in her plan. It was entirely too convenient that Rumple was dying, so, “Oh well, guess I’ll hafta stab him and inherit his powers.” Wouldn’t be surprised if she’d set up the situation. Even if so, I doubt Hook will be especially sad to be rid of her.

I think this is a very likely scenario, but I also wonder if it will last the whole season. They’ve been using Hook a lot as just the guy-seeking-revenge; they need to develop him and since we're heading to Neverland at the end of the season they need to do it soon, or they risk Hook becoming a cliche.

That’s kind of what I was hinting at. We’ve been seeing Emma use magic with no price at all this season…or not any we’ve yet seen anyway. I also feel like there’s no reason David, Snow or anyone else can’t use magic given the way Rumpel explained it this episode.
I don’t know about that. The other magic we saw was her using it to see Pongo’s memories. That definitely had a price. Regina would’ve hung on to goodness (for a least a while longer) if Emma had continued to be on her side, saying that she didn’t do it! Getting to go to a party where everyone hated but tolerated her wasn’t a good enough reward for stopping the evilness, but having someone who used to be a rival believe in her and stick up for her? That would’ve meant something. And Snow and Charming would’ve probably followed too. And Henry also would’ve been like, “I know you didn’t do it.” So Regina wouldn’t have needed Cora and a lot of this stuff could have perhaps been prevented. I think that is the price they paid.

Yes, not only does magic come at a price, you don’t get to always know clearly what it is until it is too late.

Agreed though I think some of that was strictly because of Colin’s leg injury, not necessarily where they had originally planned him to be at this point.
The writers were all excited after Tallahassee and the reactions they got to the characters and said they were loving what they saw as much as (some of us) were and then he kinda took a backseat after the mid-season finale. I’m hoping that we get more of the side from that episode in the near future, or at least by the end of the season.
As for who Hook could team up with….Regina may be ticked at him for going after Rumple when she & Cora didn’t want him to. If he hadn’t, Cora’s candle would never have been used on her and Regina would still have her mother. It should make for interesting alliances along the way. Perhaps lots of “enemy of my (current) enemy is my friend (for the time being)” scenarios will ensue. Can’t wait to see where everybody falls in that!
I like that Emma is now considering Rumple family (must be tough for her given her history / current situation with NealFire) but she never exactly lets Hook die either (chained him up but made a deal with Anton – still don’t know how he got the bean since Anton is alive), hid him in the hospital from Rumple, and while she owed Rumple a favor it was more the “if I stay in town I’m gonna kill Hook” thing that made her go to NY because she felt she had already done him more than enough favors. She can’t let Regina die because of Henry and she tried to help her at the beginning of the season which got her sucked into present-day FTL. Emma’s a good person who doesn’t realllly want anybody to die except maybe the ones who realllly deserve it and even then she ends up protecting them for one reason or another.
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.

Yeah, this is important. I’ve seen a few people on our site say that they don’t want to watch anymore because of Hook’s almost comical role (Flook, anyone?) these past few episodes but I think we REALLY need to hammer home the idea that Colin was injured which means the game plan had to be adjusted.

Really begrudgingly accepts that he’s family. Like, “oh god. I have to save you? I don’t even remotely like you!” Yet another reason why I love Emma most out of all the females on this show.

Sadly, not the first time they had (or will) have to change their game plan b/c of the actors. Jefferson, Sydney Glass, Cinderella have dangling plots we may only get answers to in interviews and chats 😥 . And how much of August's future was altered b/c of Eion's other acting gig?So at least with Colin it is a fairly short detour from what they wanted to do with Hook. 😉

I’ve been wondering if perhaps Cora is actually the one who gave him the poison and sent him to NYC. Of course, if that were true, Regina knew nothing about it and likely wouldn’t believe it if he told her. Will certainly be interesting to see where Regina and Hook stand now.

Don’t think that pilot he got signed up for even ended up getting made, so that wouldn’t have had any bearing on their plans for August.
