Okay so in this episode we see that the EQ got the Dark Curse from Rumplestiltskin and traded it to Malificent for the sleeping curse and now wants it back again citing that the sleeping curse was no good, broken with a mere kiss. Malificent comments about the curse saying whoever created it was beyond what the two of them were capable of. Many have assumed that because the EQ got the curse from Rumple (which we know because her father tells her to go see the one who gave it to her) and he is the Dark One that He created the curse, but it is not yet stated that he created it anywhere in the show. Does anyone know for sure if he is the creator of the curse, or are we just making an educated guess? Could there be someone darker than Rumplestiltskin?

March 7, 2012 at 6:53 pm #138339SlurpeezParticipantI posted my theory to this question on the thread, https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=235&start=10
Perhaps Rumple didn’t create the curse. We know he doesn’t have the darkest heart in the land, since Regina didn’t require his hair to enact the dark curse like she did from others in ep. 2. We also know Regina didn’t create it either, nor Maleficent, who said, “Whoever created that monstrosity makes us look positively moral.”
In a recent interview, Robert Carlyle hinted that there could be a twist to the show’s curse in that the curse may have surprising origins. He also said that relations between Rumple and Regina are going to become far more strained. “Certain things happen toward the last five or six episodes that shake our relationship,” he teased. “You realise that maybe Rumpelstiltskin [didn’t create the curse] for her at all – maybe he was doing it for himself. Maybe the curse was created for him.”

From Roberts statement on, I get the feeling, that the curse might have been created, so that Rumpel could forget all his pain … But for some reason he never inacted it.March 8, 2012 at 2:50 am #138363SnickerdoodleParticipantI have several times wondered if Regina’s mom could be the Creator of the curse. But have been hesitant to say anything until I know more about her. I admit it’s hard for me to imagine someone darker than Regina, right now.
March 8, 2012 at 3:28 am #138367weedithParticipantIf the curse was created for Rumplestiltskin, either by himself or someone else, I don’t see how he could have enacted it. It requires the heart of the thing you love most. The only time I can assume Rumple would have wanted to use it would have been after he lost Bae (however that happened) or after he lost Belle. In either case he wouldn’t have had the heart. He thought Belle was dead, and I cannot imagine him killing Bae to help him forget that he lost Bae.
And if he just wanted to forget his own pain, wouldn’t there be some other way to make that happen? Using the curse for that end would make him a sort of suicide-bomber amnesia-curser. It’s not that I am saying he is above that. I don’t know that Rumple loses a lot of sleep worrying about other people’s pain. But this curse is intended to make other people suffer. It is only going to be used by someone who seriously hates other people and wants to inflict pain as revenge.
If Adam and Eddie follow the pattern of Lost, then each season gets a new villain who makes last season’s villain look “positively moral.” Can’t wait to see what happens!
