It sounds like maybe Papa Charming died by more nefarious means! Who could have done the deed and why would anyone want to kill a farmer?

It will have something to do with putting the pieces in place so that David will have to pretend to be King George’s son. Either that or David’s dad is not dead and is in the land of untold stories and is now in Storybrook

I agree and placing my cookies on this.

On the other hand, he had no problem parting with the coin — didn’t seem to be too concerned about whatever EQ was planning to do with it. Rumple’s general MO in relation to other villains is this: “here, have this thing I hoarded, now give me what I want and leave me and my family out of your armageddon plans.” Since he’s not a dumb man, and he knows EQ (arguably, they’re always trying to think three steps ahead of each other) I don’t think he’d so easily part with the coin if that would lead Charming to discover he assassinated his father — just because I don’t think Rumple would want the inconvenience of being bothered by Charming clan’s righteous anger.

Hmm. That’s a pretty good point. Maybe he just doesn’t care anymore. In the past the concept of family kept him from really striking out against the Charming clan and their (lol) righteous anger. But he’s clearly done with them at this point, wanting only to protect himself, Belle, and Morfetus. He didn’t even ask the EQ to spare Henry and he couldn’t be sure that the EQ wouldn’t harm Henry just to get to Regina.

The how could be something as easy as “she saw it in her magic mirror”
They why is trickier…maybe she didn’t think it was necessary because David had made peace with his father’s demise (the EQ is clearly doing this to tear people apart).

Plot!
He didn’t even ask the EQ to spare Henry and he couldn’t be sure that the EQ wouldn’t harm Henry just to get to Regina.
Hmm, good point. Ok, I’ll venture an in-story explanation other than “plot.” It all depends on whether EQ and Regina are completely separate entities, and whether Rumple thinks they are (or not). If they are “avatars” of the same single entity (think the wrathful vs the merciful aspect of a deity), then Rumple can assume that EQ won’t, in fact, hurt Henry, because love for Henry is at the core of Regina’s (whole) character. They might have different ideas about what that love is — same as with Cora, for example — but it would be there. So while Rumple’s not taking responsibility for Henry, he might be assuming that whichever way the cookie crumbles, Regina/EQ will take care of her family (as Rumple himself always does, no matter where he is on the evil gradient, so it wouldn’t be a crazy assumption). My cookies are on the idea that you can’t just factor the evil part out and be rid of it, which means that I’m guessing that Rumple is hedging his bets vis a vis Henry. (On the down side of this theory, it would mean that we’re supposed to be taking the sexual tension between Regina/Rumple as canon, because if EQ is trying to put the moves on him, then that’s how Regina feels somewhere deep down. Bleagh.)

Well this I think is more dependent on how his death happened.
If Hook killed him for example, I think that would have come up at some point.
I am really going to guess his dad faked his own death and escaped to the untold story land to get away from something. And EQ knows what it is.
