Regina would never have left anything open–she is smart to know to cover her tracks well. She probably got to Belle after the events of Dreamy. Either she took Belle after that episode, or she convinced her father to give her custody–I don’t think her father is a cruel man, but he could easily be tricked. Regina could have told him that Rumpelstiltskin tainted Belle’s mind and that she needed to be treated. Then maybe tell her father and the whole kingdom that the treatment went bad and Belle killed herself out of grief.

It probably wouldn’t have been too hard for Regina to fake a death.
Early in season 2, Rumple and Belle really need to have that air-clearing talk to resolve these questions for us.

I think once Belle is aware of some of what he has done then that is going to be an issue at least if they want the character to be good or make sense.

As for why Rumps didn’t take revenge on him….he promised Belle as part of their deal that her family and friends wouldn’t be harmed. So I imagine that is binding to him.

Obviously, Belle exists and isn’t going anywhere in the near future. He’s been planning for centuries, and now something actually came up that he hasn’t planned on. He controls every aspect of everything, but here is something he never thought would ever happen. How will this actually affect his plans?
You guys are right that first and foremost Gold and Belle need to sit down and have a long discussion, before any romance or anything goes on, those two need to talk. They need to put on a pot of coffee or tea or pull a bottle of scotch out and they need to sit and lay everything out on the table. Not very good action for the cameras, but plotwise they need to do this.
I’m almost more looking forward to Belle’s reunion to her father more than anything else. I wonder if Gold will tell her he beat the crap out of him and sent him to the hospital while Gold was sent to jail on assault charges, even though he did get off of them through unethical means.
Part of me does wonder if a seed of what Regina said was true. That’s another reason I want to see Moe again. I want to know just what went on. I have this odd feeling she’ll say nothing happened and then we’ll see a picture of her back and it will be covered in scars.

I don’t think they are going to have a long conversation with Rumpel and Belle. It would have to be about what he is going to do next and she isn’t going to like it.
July 5, 2012 at 11:25 pm #149558the_saviorParticipantI’ve thought of this very question many times, and I have made myself believe that something is going to be explained next season.
I can see Rumpel asking Belle what actually “happened” after she left his castle because he couldn’t find her anywhere.
True, they did a pretty quick cut scene of him crying over her, but who knows, perhaps he was actually looking for her before Regina broke the news, and it was enough to make him believe with him not being able to find her.
Like everyone else, I’m pretty anxious to see what happens between Rumpel/Belle/Regina/Moe.
July 6, 2012 at 12:24 am #149574darcyfarrowParticipantI have a hunch that inadvertently, Regina will help to cement Rumple and Belle’s relationship. They will need to bond quickly and tightly (and possibly, team up with the Charmings, who will be kind of a role model for forgiveness, I think) to protect themselves against Regina. Wouldn’t Regina just love that, knowing that she’s a Rumbelle catalyst?
The more I think about it, the more important it seems to me that the first statement Belle made, upon remembering her true identity, was “I love you.” That statement grants freedom for candid discussion. She and Gold can clear the air, knowing from the outset that their love is intact. (That’s not a guarantee for an HEA, but it’s a necessary first step.)
July 6, 2012 at 1:24 am #149581hjbauParticipantThe Charming’s had better not team up with Rumpel. Maybe at some point do a deal with him, but not team up with them as if they are on the same side.
July 6, 2012 at 1:37 am #149584elleParticipantPrince Charming and Snow White teaming up with Rumpelstiltskin (on friendly terms) is a little hard to believe. They might all team up for a common goal–getting rid of Regina, trying to maintain order in Storybrooke now that magic is in the picture. But it is doubtful that Prince Charming and Snow White would ever trust Rumpelstiltskin–he created the curse in the first place, he tried to take Princess Cinderella’s baby from her, kidnapped Kathyrn, killed a fairy Godmother, and etc.
They would probably trust Belle, and maybe she would convince them to side with Rumpelstiltskin–I wonder if Belle has ever met Snow White, Cincerella, or any of the other characters of royal blood.
