I don’t read the chat but I have nothing against it. I avoid it mainly because it contains spoilers, which I try to avoid. In fact, I usually zoom my browser view so that the right hand side of the page containing the chat window isn’t even visible on the screen. That way I can stay spoiler-free while others are free to enjoy the chat. I also tend to avoid all chats wherever I encounter them, but that’s just me. Those that are reasonably active scroll so quickly that I find it difficult to read quickly enough to keep up, let alone compose any kind of reply. This is aggravated by the fact that the need for rapid typing leads people to use a great many abbreviations and to often throw spelling, grammar, and punctuation to the wind. Put all these conditions together, and I find it very difficult to decipher most chats. So, I’m glad to hear that many of the topics discussed are showing up here in the forums where I can encounter them at my own leisurely pace. Here’s hoping both media stay active.
I am going to try your method of zooming in method … I do not worry about spoilers but I find my concentration gets side tract when I see the chat. I also think some great discussions get missed.

N.[adrotate group="5"]October 16, 2013 at 8:34 am #216295HappyEndingsSpectatorI wholly and completely disagree.
When someone comes up with a theory I ask them to post it in a thread for all to read. We constantly bring up threads and post our thoughts and if someone has a thought but doesn’t want to post, I do it for them. I’ve started many threads with “so we were chatting in the chat tonight.” These forums are NEVER boring. We post every spoiler we find. And then discuss it to death, just like we always have. But sometimes the talk also takes places in the chat.
And most importantly, we’ve become a real community through that chat. Before, we would just talk in the forums and it was all ONCE all the time. Now we chit chat and we’ve really gotten to know each other. We’re all FRIENDS now not just forum posters. If Daniel got rid of this chat, I would be unbelievably upset as would the many regulars who talk here every single day for hours at a time.
I totally agree with RG on this we often post what we discuss in chat on the threads if they are related latter instead of posting a theory or an idea on a thread it is better for me to talk it out to see if I miss anything or if it is a good idea. I do post news articles from other sources to the forum as well but if you haven’t noticed most of the articles are the same thing changing a word here or there so is it really necessary to reply to something that you already replied to from another source on the same thing again? To be honest if someone writes a book in a post I just ignore it I like short discussions and to the point.
Yes, I admit the chat goes fast at times so what all you have to do is scroll up to read the past posting. If you don’t know what an abbreviation means just ask everyone is willing to explain or answer your question. I don’t worry about the spelling in chat and I do make a lot sorry for that but it isn’t a biggie for me as this is just an informal chat room not a professional one.
Another thing which is nice if you need help you have the chat box to get help, nothing like trying to post something and you have issues or trying to read someone’s else’s post because they didn’t view their post and the typing is a mess. Example quoting tweeter threads they don’t quote at all you get garbage.

I dislike that it is hard to come on the site and just start chatting because you need to scroll back so far to find the start of the conversation and sometimes it is already gone.
also when too many people are on the chat it is hard to add anything because by the time you type what you want to say three new posts are already there
sometimes I feel like the chat room goes off on things, which I don’t mind, but sometimes can get boring.
the only other thing is spoilers. I like spoilers but only for the next episode, so sometimes I hear more than I wish from the chat, but this also happens in the forums, only it is easier to avoid. Also because we do allow spoilers in the chat I feel more people don’t participate b/c they like being spoiler free. and also I feel that most theories coming out of the chat room contain some type of evidence from spoilers, but the line of theory and spoilers gets blurred from switching to chat room to forums
however I feel in all the chat is a way to find out info quickly, like you can ask for any new sneek peeks, or ask an opinion of a ship, or see if there is a forum for so and so topic. also a lot of good ideas came from taking many little things people say in the chat and combining them, like the theory of Rumple being a lost boy.
I like having it, and support it fully. I feel that when we have had the chat longer most of these issues will work themselves out as we get more into chatting
Keeper of Swanfire's dream catcher, the Blue Fairy Plot Device, the contact name "Her", the lanyards, the trigger, the Netherworld room and necklace, Charming's quote on Thanksgiving, and PP's pic of Henry
October 16, 2013 at 7:27 pm #216417HappyEndingsSpectatorYea, I admit when there is to many people in chat it is hard to get a question or response in. What would be nice if you could have two chat boxes so the people who want to talk about the show can ask questions and theory’s and the other one for shipping stuff since that seems to be the main conversation and when will we see SB etc. The 1st one can be used to ask for help also or if you are looking for a thread, but all and it nice to have.
I wish we could adjust the font back this big font on the forum takes up a lot of my computer screen and I get tired of paging back to look for updates, I don’t remember having that problem with the old forum but maybe it just me again 🙂

I thought the font sizes was moderated by your browser…. check the view in your settings you should be able to zoom in or out or adjust font sizes there.
In fox fire you can add on Zooming to your control bar… makes life easier for me as I need the larger fonts… I zoom in and out all the time.
