Do you think Emma brings American culture and values to SB?

In the past few episodes she seem to act upon her background i.e. refers American movies, American justice system, how she acts as a sheriff etc.

Yes, and I’d say just because of her life experience it’d just naturally flow from her. Emma’s good though, so she’d be bringing good values and culture. Not the bad stuff.

I agree. When Dr. Whale said “We’re not from this world.” in “Broken”, Emma’s reply, “You’re in it now” and her statement that “I’m still Sheriff” emphasised that our rules will still apply to the fairy tale characters.

Given that we’ve already seen some disagreements brewing about whether to stay here or try to return to the Enchanted Forest, I wonder if some of the townspeople may say to Snow and Charming, “We’re grateful for all you’ve done, but you really shouldn’t be running the town since nobody ever voted for you.” I’d love to see another election in Storybrooke.

I would love it if it was Emma actually who brought that up to Mary Margaret and David.

“Look, I get it… back in the Enchanted Forest, it was your kingdom, your people, your responsibility. But, we’re here now. And you’re a school teacher and you’re the deputy. It’s no longer your responsibility to deal with everything and fix everything. But, if that’s what you want… Storybrooke does need a new mayor and new council members….”

I also think she brought AMERICAN VALUES when she would not let REGINA be brought up on charges or lynched unless there was evidence and proof that she did the crime. I vaguely remember her say something like YOU ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY at one point.

I also like how she stood between Greg Mendleson and the hysteria that was developing due to his being an outsider. I consider Emma the voice of reason in the looney bin. I love how she does not run off half cocked MOST OF THE TIMES.

She’s pretty level headed unless she she feels she has personally been betrayed.

I can see this thread has been dormant for a little while, but I’d be very interested to hear from the non-US posters about this topic. Do you think Emma brings American cultures and values or just modern ones?

Well, I think that she brings some with her, but I think that part of the curse was that they were all given identities that had memories of American life. They remembered watching ET and Splash and reading Alice in Wonderland in school, even if those things never happened (clearly the case with David, who I think it was remembered reading Alice but was in a coma from day one of the curse). So it’s perhaps a mix.
