To all my fellow Whovians, I thought I might create this thread for us to share our thoughts and feelings on this episode, beware, spoilers lurk like Cybermats……….
I’m going to be brutally honest, I think this time Doctor Who has truly gone too far
First of all, I’m gonna tackle the elephant in the room, how the subject of Death is dealt with. Doctor Who is a show that uses death in a big way. However, I think this is the darkest, most terrifying and brutal representation of death used in Who so far, especially the sinister meaning behind the 3W Institute and those horrific 3 words………….The thing that really upsets me is that Doctor Who is a family show, of course we must confront the darkest truths but the way this was dealt was ghoulish and in very bad taste
What did you guys think ?
[adrotate group="5"]November 4, 2014 at 6:31 am #288883PriceofMagicParticipantI’ve found this whole series of Doctor Who to be rather lacking in something to be honest. Whilst I will continue to be watching because it is Doctor Who, it doesn’t have me excited for the next episode. I’ve grown use to Capaldi’s Doctor and whilst he’s quite good, he still doesn’t compare to Matt Smith’s Doctor. I loved Matt Smith’s Doctor, he was fun, he was quirky, he had energy that you could just feel. David Tennant’s Doctor was good and comes in a very close second after Matt Smith’s Doctor but 11 is my Doctor.
I think the overall problem with this series is Clara. It sort of became the Clara show whilst the Doctor became a supporting character. I don’t like Clara, I never really took to her. Dalek Clara and Snowmen Clara were okay but present day Clara lacks chemistry with the Doctor. It’s not just Capaldi’s Doctor either, she lacked chemistry with Smith’s Doctor so the latter part of series 7 after Amy and Rory’s deaths wasn’t as enjoyable as it could’ve been.
I never bought the Clara/Danny Pink romance. Again, no chemistry. Clara is boring, whiny and sometimes downright irritating. She is certainly no Donna or Amy who had spark and so much chemistry with their Doctors. Donna and Amy were strictly platonic with their Doctors and it worked wonderfully. They bantered, they egged each other on, they challenged each other, and at the end of the day you could see it was genuine friendship between the companion and the Doctor.
Series 5-7 featuring Smith’s Doctor were darker compared to Series 2-4 featuring Tennant’s Doctor, yet although the atmosphere was darker, 11 and Amy still kept the series reasonably light hearted. The introduction of the weeping angels also occurred during Tennant’s reign and continued into Smith’s reign. Genuinely scary monsters that the new series is lacking. I do hope Clara and 12 come up against the weeping angels, I’ll be rooting for the angels to get rid of Clara, though since we’ve already had one angel related companion death, I doubt they would do another so soon.
Series 8 featuring Capaldi’s Doctor is darker than previous series and that’s it. There is no light heartedness. It just seems doom and gloom. I don’t care for Clara, I don’t care about her relationship troubles, if she kills herself to be with Danny, I don’t care. I should care, I cared when Amy and Rory died, I cared when Donna had her memory erased, but I don’t care about Clara’s death other than the fact that it means the Doctor can finally get a new companion and hopefully a better one.
The reveal of Missy as the master was surprising yet so obvious. Missy=Short form of Mistress=Feminine form of Master. I preferred John Simm’s master compared to Missy. There also wasn’t an explanation of why the Master has returned and being all evil again when he kind of redeemed himself in Tennant’s last episode before Matt Smith took over the role. We need that explanation.
I did enjoy Seb in the episode and I don’t mind Capaldi’s Doctor but Clara needs to go.
All magic comes with a price!

But who cares about that THE MASTER HAS RETURNED, ALL HAIL HIS GLORY AND LISTEN THE SOUND OF THE DRUMS…THE NEVER ENDING DRUMS. Missy has a lot of Delgado into her which is good matches Capaldi’s Pertrwee. I say they are perfect match.

The child will be like River, too. Given how long Time Lords live even without regenerating, Orson could be Clara and Danny’s son and not their great-great-grandson.
