Not spoiler-wise. My boyfriend and I are spoiled by watching Once. We’re not obsessed with knowing spoilers. What I mean is, after watching Once and then watching other fairytale adaptions, hoping for the best and then become miserably disappointed afterwards because it’s all that it’s hyped up to be?
I saw both Snow White movies. One was entertaining to watch with lots of personality and the other lacked personality. I recently finished watching The 10th Kingdom and I can’t believe that this was a hit back in 2000. 😆 But the fairytale movie adaptions won’t stop anytime soon. I know, it won’t. Should I just brace myself for really bad adaptions here?
Does anyone else feel the same way I do? 🙁

I have to say though, I am extremely excited for Guillermo Del Torro’s plans for an upcoming version of Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson as the main character. His fairytale-ish works are dark, whimsical and well-written (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphanage) and I can’t wait to see what his take on this one is! (Also, apparently one of the producers worked on Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands), so I’m hopeful.

Didn’t know about Beauty and the Beast. Hope they don’t kill it too much.

November 21, 2012 at 8:17 am #161512PheeParticipantNo matter what other adaptations of fairytales I may see in the future, I’ll probably think, “They totally got that wrong,” coz the Once version is the real version now. 😆 Grimm just started here last night, and I checked it out and thought it was great, but it’s just made up stuff, not like the gospel according to Kitsis and Horowitz which shall henceforth be the legit fairytale bible IMO. 😉
It’s a similar thing to how I went to a certain concert a dozen times, (New Kids On The Block & Backstreet Boys, though I was really just there for my New Kids), and the opening number was a mashup of a couple of songs, set to the music of Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Now whenever I hear Viva La Vida come on the radio, Coldplay totally sing the wrong words, the fools.
So just like NKOTBSB are the only ones who know how to sing Viva La Vida correctly, OUAT is the only production that knows the truth of these stories, and everyone else is doing it wrong. 😛

😮 didn’t know about this one, sounds SO GOOD! 😮
also, yes, Once Upon a Time has been great so far but if the series becomes too long/vague it will lose its magic so let’s hope the writers know what they are doing! So far season two has A LOT catching up to do to become as good as the first one, I’m afraid.
And I used to watch 10th Kingdom too, I remember I loved it but I can’t even recall now what it was about! 🙄

Beauty and the Beast by the guy who made Pan’s Labyrinth, sounds interesting. I love Edward Scissorhands. One of my favorites movies.

November 21, 2012 at 6:49 pm #161579evilqueenParticipantno, I haven’t seen that many movies either. The one and only that’s stuck in my head is ‘Pan Labyrinth’ and I’m sorry but OUaT has still a long way to go to beat that master peace! But then again, these two are so different it’s hard to compare. I find OUaT good and satisfying in the way that it’s very clever in linking the fairy tales ans revealing this completely new plot that actually seems like it’s always been there because the writers used their brains to connect them into one. I don’t actually need Storybrooke to appreciate that, I would be perfectly happy watching OUaT if it was set in FTL only. But then again the mystery of who’s who in SB and how they are connected adds this extra something 😉
November 21, 2012 at 6:54 pm #161582magickingdomParticipantNo, not really. Most of the Disney films still retain their old magic and are still some of my favorite films of all time. But I do agree that any future adaptations of the fairytales run the risk of not living up to my OUAT standards. If Snow doesn’t have a sword, I’ll be pissed. If Charming isn’t a humble farm boy, I’ll be pissed. If the Evil Queen doesn’t have a sympathetic backstory, I’ll be pissed. And if Belle isn’t in love with a crazy magic man, I’ll be pissed.
This show has given me extremely high expectations. 😆
