I was just thinking back to the scene in “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,” when Graham encountered Mr. Gold in the woods. Graham said he was chasing a wolf, and Gold says, “There are no wolves in Storybrooke. Not the literal kind anyway.” I had always assumed he meant non-literal wolf to mean bad or predatory people, specifically Regina. After “Red Handed” I’m starting to wonder.
Could he have been referring to Ruby? I am comfortable assuming Rumplestiltskin knew about Ruby and her Granny and the werewolf thing, just because of his position as magic guy who has been around since forever. (Although he somehow missed that EQ was lying about Belle, but that is discussed elsewhere.) But the above scene makes me wonder if Gold knows about Ruby and knows what might happen if she doesn’t wear red, which she is always ALWAYS wearing.
I might be over-thinking this but the connection just occurred to me.

We know that Red told Snow about Rumpel so she knew something of him. It is also possible that Granny did a deal with Rumpel for the red cloak which stops Red from turning into a wolf.

I’m guessing that if she can turn into a wolf in Storybrooke those red streaks are the equivalent of her red hood in FTL. And the girl is always wearing red. She still has her wolf senses. By the way, I still think Dr. Whale is a wolf. I think he might be the wolf from the 3 Little Pigs. It actually makes more sense to me now that we know that Ruby is a wolf. If Dr. Whale is also a wolf it makes sense that he has been drooling all over Ruby – he is attracted to her since she is a female wolf!

I was thinking about who could have enchanted Red’s cloak and thought, well, the Evil Queen definitely is not going to care so maybe Rumple was the magician who enchanted the cloak. So, I’m thinking before that happened, Red changing into the wolf — the time that she would spend as the wolf — maybe instead of a few hours — it could have been longer, like weeks or months.

Probably.

I really think the nefarious Dr. Whale is a villain to be contended with still. He does have wolf-like stalker tendencies, and it’d be interesting to see if he’s hitting on Ruby because she is a she-wolf! (Though I’m not too sure we’ll see the three little pigs in OUAT).
