Ok so I know some people may not like this theory but I had a thought…what if Dr. Whale is both Dr. Frankenstein and Monstro…What if Dr. Frankenstein tried to bring Daniel back to life but failed, and then as punishment he was turned into Monstro the Whale.. If Daniel ended up being a monster I could see Regina turning Dr. Frankenstein into a Monster..Monstro in anger for what she had done to Daniel, and then having Monstro do her bidding..I can’t remember which interview but they did say in one that his character was going to be on par with rumplestiltskin being the beast and red being the wolf so that would actually make sense…I’ve always thought he was Monstro, and that regina turned him into that, I just had no idea what he would have done to make her curse him that way but the Frankenstein theory with Daniel becoming the monster makes a lot of sense…and it would give them a way to be obvious and sneaky at the same time…just a thought, I may be completely wrong though, but then the name would make a lot of sense because then technically it would be a mash up of both of his fairytale counterparts names…and well its already been discussed about why he would have a god complex if he were Dr. Frankie..As far as the Ruby thing though maybe he was once in love with anita…that is just a complete crackpot theory but hey who knows?

I don’t see how that could be possible. Whale is a prominent member of society, almost a reward (although i think whale would say something against it given his reaction in broken). I think if he tried to bring daniel back–when regina knew about it–and FAILED, he would have suffered in unimaginable ways not given a medical degree.

i don’t know if he was made to do her bidding in FTL and that carried over to Storybrooke, and then he was no longer under her thumb once the curse was broken..I could see her wanting someone under her thumb as a doctor especially since Charming was in the hospital and she would want someone to keep a close watch over him that would be in her pocket so to speak. And what if after Daniel became the monster Regina wanted him to fix it or if he died again wanted Dr. frankie to try again? What if he refused because he didn’t want to risk the consequences again and he refused to practice medicene anymore? Then being made a doctor in Storybrooke would be a punishment…just because something may seem like a good thing to one person does not necessarily mean it is a good thing to someone else. Circumstances can change perspectives easily and lets face it there are a million different scenarios and circumstances that can happen especially when the players involved are the evil queen and Rumplestiltskin.

I tell you if I hadn’t seen Gaston turned into a rose, I would think Dr. Whale was he. The god complex, the ogling at girls, etc.
