I’m a bit disappointed with how casting is going for Once Upon a Time. If they plan to reveal a new fairytale character in Storybrooke, I wish they had the foresight to cast them early and have them in tiny, insignificant appearances throughout the episodes. They kind of did this with the dwarfs, but not with anyone else.

    • Frederick didn’t appear in Storybrooke until “What Happened to Frederick.”
    • Hansel and Gretel and their father only appeared in Storybrooke in “True North,” and never since.
    • Belle’s father didn’t appear in Storybrooke until “Skin Deep.”

So I hate seeing casting calls for upcoming episodes, knowing that they didn’t already have those people picked out and placed.

So it seems the only repeating characters whose origin we haven’t known is Dr. Whale. So I can appreciate that he’s not just an extra.

I agree completely. It would be much more interesting if the insignificant characters were in the background of the episode. For example, i like who they got to play the blind witch, but in some ways i would almost have rather them keep the other blind witch. That was one thing that was interesting about LOST. In the first episode you don’t think anything of Locke sitting on the ground and then they show him running around, but then when you go back and watch you realize you can see Locke in the background of the episode even before you knew his story. That is interesting.
