Dr. Whale will appear in episode 15 entitled “Red-Handed,” and I believe Dr. Whale’s counterpart in fairy-tale world is the Big Bad Wolf. Whales and wolves are theorized to share a common evolutionary ancestor. Several “missing links” have been discovered, which could run like wolves and swim like whales. It is thought that as these once land-dwelling mammals took to the sea to hunt food, and as they spent more time in the water, they evolved into modern whales, loosing the ability to roam on land. Perhaps the writers of OUAT used the theory to name Dr. Whale, linking his character to the Big Bad Wolf, but doing so covertly to throw off viewers until Red Riding Hood’s feature episode.

I don’t know. I am still hoping it is Dr. Whale.

February 24, 2012 at 9:04 pm #137640hjbauParticipantI read that spoiler yesterday and i still want Dr. Whale to be the wolf. I dislike the idea that they are not adding more characters to the show and even though the wolf is a minor character i think that it should be someone knew or controlled by someone new.

I think this means that even though we’ll see the Big Bad Wolf in fairy-tale land in episode 15, viewers still won’t find out who he is in Storybrooke until next season. That sill leaves open the very real possibility that Dr. Whale is the Big Bad Wolf, and viewers will discover it later.
The summary for episode 15, Red-Handed: Emma hires Ruby to help her, and gives the woman a chance to determine what she's good at. Meanwhile, Emma questions David about his possible involvement in Kathryn's disappearance, while in the fairytale world, Red Riding Hood and her fellow villagers are trapped in their village by a bloodthirsty wolf.
Since Dr. Whale’s character appears in episode 15, I think his involvement with Ruby will become more evident. One thing we already know from previous episodes about Dr. Whale is that he was eying Ruby lustfully almost like a predator while he was on a date with Mary Margaret. Also, Dr. Whale lied to Mary Margaret about the results of David’s brain wave activity when she saw David move. Finally, Dr. Whale reported to Regina when David began to stir, suggesting the doctor is also a villain in fairy-tale world.

Very good point, slurpeez108. Doesn’t Dr. Whale tell MM that he never gets in the kind of situation MM is talking about (Episode 4, maybe? At the end, when he buys her two drinks.), because he lives his life not expecting anything? That line would definitely suit a wolf … I guess we’ll have to wait episode 15 first and then see what is revealed.
February 27, 2012 at 8:26 pm #137771malchoreParticipantIt’s Billy the tow truck driver! I’m calling it two weeks before the episode airs.
There is the possibility it could still be Dr. Whale. The producers might use a real live wolf to terrorize Red’s village. The person behind the wolf wouldn’t be revealed during the episode. They would just use a real live wolf the whole episode and not show which person is the wolf.
Anyone see that movie with Amanda Seyfreid as Red Riding Hood? (Or however her name is spelled.) The movie was kinda bad. But I was wondering how close to the real Grimm fairy tale that movie was.
February 27, 2012 at 8:37 pm #137774hjbauParticipantIt does seem like they might just have a real wolf. If they do that though they should have a person behind the wolf. It could be the queen or Rumpel or the huntsman though this is after the huntsman become the queen’s slave.
