ModeratorABC isn’t letting go of it its hopes for a Once Upon a Time spinoff. And there is a possibility that the new Frozen characters of Anna, Elsa and Kristoff could spin off into their own ABC series down the line.
“We don’t have immediate plans for a Frozen spinoff, but they’re so inventive, those two…” ABC president Paul Lee told me today at the TCA Press Tour in Beverly Hills, as he met with reporters to talk Fall TV, referring to OUAT executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis.Though ABC’s first attempt at a OUAT spinoff, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, failed this past season, Lee said that does not rule out the chance for another new Once-inspired series.
“Eddy and Adam are endlessly inventive, so they have glints in their eyes of stories that they can spin for years to come. So it certainly doesn’t rule out their ability or my ability to go beyond Once.”
And for anyone concerned that it’s just too soon to do Frozen on the ABC fairytale series, Lee told me he has no doubts whatsoever.“Absolutely not,” Lee said. “Frozen is a wonderful asset. John Lassiter (executive producer of the Frozen film), himself flew up to Vancouver, he’s integrally related to the way we’re doing that. Adam and Eddie always have a twist on every story, so you can imagine their twist is going to be very different. But no, I think it’s the perfect time. We’re thrilled with it.”

ParticipantWow…like…okay. If the director himself flew out to Vancouver, and gave them thumbs up on what they’re doing with Frozen, then I’ll trust his judgment that A & E are sticking true to the story. The ratings would definitely be high for the spin off…what would it be about?
If they just want to keep Frozen around, then there best bet would be to make Elsa a Series Regular, with Anna as her supporting. That would mean the Season 5 lineup would be Regina, Emma, Snow, Rumple, David, Hook, Belle, and Elsa…it doesn’t seem so bad. But in the end, it all depends on what they have planned for Elsa.

ParticipantI’d watch but agree it is too soon for a Frozen spinoff.
A Neverland spinoff on the other hand, there plenty of unanswered questions about Neverland that they could explore in a spinoff, they could have Colin make quest appearances and could explore Baelfire’s time on Neverland.

ParticipantNO! JUST NO! NO!
Too. Soon.
If this happened, this would truly be the definition of milking the movie.

ModeratorTo be fair, this sounds like it’s just a suggestion from Paul Lee, rather than Adam and Eddy seriously planning one. What intrigues me the most is that John Lasseter, the guy in charge of Disney Animation, is actually checking up on how Frozen is handled on Once and has even visited Vancouver.

ParticipantABC/Disney has already said (numerous times) they plan on unabashedly milking Frozen for all it’s worth. So the idea of a spinoff isn’t particularly surprising. Whether or not A&E could/should attempt another spinoff is another question altogether…I could see them giving some of the team a stab at show runners for a spinoff though – or give OUAT to a new showrunner and have A&E handle a spinoff…
Or they could just make a Frozen series completely separate from A&E. Point being….guaranteed ABC will have a show about Frozen in some form, likely next season.

ParticipantWow–maybe they should wait and see how Elsa et al are received on OUAT itself…everyone seems to be getting a little ahead of themselves, aren’t they? Haha. 😉

ParticipantI actually wouldn’t mind this spin-off. I think part of the reason that OuaTiW came across so poorly (apart from the time slot) is the fact that none of the main characters were introduced onto the parent show first. If Michael Socha had been a reocurring character in 2B I think more people would have tuned in because they would have already gotten to know and love the character.
So as long as they give us enough time to get to know the Frozen Characters on the parent show, I think this would work. Assuming that they don’t screw up the time slot that is.
