At the moment, there may be a disconnect between the two storylines, but I’m thinking they’re gonna link up sooner rather than later. I’m assuming that Hook, (and Cora) will end up in SB. If that was the plan of the showrunners, to get them to SB from another world, then I think this was a very creative way to go about getting them there.
Not only has it thrown the show’s heroines into peril, it’s forced them to bond and begin the mother/daughter relationship that the fandom was eager to see. They wouldn’t have had that breakthrough if they were both still in SB, it only happened because they’d been thrown into this situation where they only had each other, and Emma was forced to see Snow as her mother. It’s fun to see Emma in her native land, and important for her to see the place she came from, (like, literally, she saw what would have been her nursery, that’s not something she ever could have imagined she’d get to see), because she’s had issues with her identity her entire life, and is only now beginning to learn who she really is. It’s great development for her character to have a reality check that there are some situations that she really can’t handle alone, so she has to let the tough exterior crack and learn how to be a vulnerable girl who can let her mother take the lead, a concept that’s completely foreign to her. None of this character development would have been possible if they’d remained in SB.
Also, it’s caused us to ask more questions about the curse. Here we thought it was broken, so it was over and done, but it turns out there was a part of FTL that was left untouched, and now we’ll get to discover more of how the curse really operated, and what caused it to behave that way.
Getting back to my first point about them joining up the two storylines, when that happens, it’ll impact multiple SB storylines. Emma will hopefully be in a better place to move forward with accepting her parents, and may well have a whole new outlook on how she wants to be a mother for Henry as well. If Cora comes back, that’ll mean hell for Regina. If Hook comes back, well, we now know he has a sordid history with Rumple, which will impact both of them if they’re back in the same town, and in turn that will affect Belle. And if they’re gonna be bringing Bae to town as well, that’ll mean that the real story of what happened to his mother will come out, assuming Rumple never told him the whole truth. Imagine an adultBae coming face to face with Hook, the man who took his mother.
Anyway, basically, I guess what I’m saying is that IMO, the way they’ve split the storylines for now is a brilliant way for them to introduce new characters, develop existing ones, and set up new elements of the story which will play out during the coming season.
I totally agree with you Phee on every count!
I have to admit tho, I did miss Snow, Emma & Regina this episode (I mean that’s a full 1/2 of the core characters left out 😯 ).
At least if they give us a peek at them like they did in We Are Both, it then doesn’t feel like they are gone or missing so much.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand why they left them out- there’s only so much you can fit into 42mins after all, but it did lower the tone of the whole episode for me personally, I think maybe it was because we’d lost track of one to many of the core characters we’re invested with, in favour of 2 characters we don’t ‘really’ know or aren’t invested in yet.I can see where some fans concerns are coming from regarding the show loosing it’s magic for them- we’ve all come to LOVE our main characters though S1 (lets face it, that’s why we all tune-in to the show week after week & re watch episodes like they are going out of fashion 😆 😉 ) & if they are ousted by a bunch of new “regular” appearance characters (who are not even considered main/core characters by H&K themselves), then yes I could see (if it continued on long enough with the core cast pushed to the back ground) the show could well loose viewers/ratings & be cancelled.
However I don’t think it will go on for too long, I think once we have had Hook, Neil &/or Henry’s father & Bennett/Barrett- whatever the new guy set to join later this season as a regular is called introductory episodes, we’ll settle back down to the focus shifting around our core characters again, with our regulars featuring more predominately along side our core characters (much like August did).On the up side, so far this season I think they’ve done an awesome job & the episodes are simply getting better & better- I do have a concern over the number of open ended storylines we have- they either need to tidy a few of those up, or start killing off regulars &/or guests (which is part of why I think Ruth & Milah had to die), so we don’t get to a VERY fragmented mess storyline wise & end up with some very choppy episodes, especially given the sheer number of additional storylines they are set to open up this season! I personally do want some of last seasons dangling plots to be covered by more than a single throw away line or sentence! Who wrote the book? How did it came to be in MM’s possession? What’ll happen when the Charming’s find out Gep screwed them all over? Exactly how did the curse/Regina choose who would come & who would stay? Where did Gold acquire all his merchandise? How Henry of all babies, came to be brought to SB? Charming’s name (godamit)? to name a few.

Can you imagine what it would be like it they only showed Emma and Snow for a few episodes, and then showed them going back to a bunch of crazy outcomes that we didn’t get to see the situations behind. LOL. Not cool.
I’m really hoping we see more of the Blue Fairy, Seven Dwarfs, and Archie this season. I would love Blue Fairy and Dark One origins episodes!!! Knowing more about the Dark One would show us more re what Rumple is up against, and we know so little about the Origin Magic: the Blue Fairy. My one complaint about the show is that Blue doesn’t seem very powerful. Storming a castle with sparkly dust?! Really?!
