I may be wrong, but I didn’t get the impression that the clock striking was for 8 o’clock. I was assuming that school started around 8, and Emma was talking to Henry before the school bell. Not being from Maine I’m not sure what time is sunrise, but the look of the town looked like it was just around sunrise to me.
I think Jefferson sounds like a whole new series, an almost “Time Tunnel” or “Quantum Leap”. He drops into Emma’s hat, but none of the doors have any clues to their worlds. So Jefferson in order to get his daughter and return to FTL must go through chance doors; overcome adventures and mysteries and try to gain clues on how he will be able to get his daughter and return home.
If I were Emma, I would move into Jefferson’s mansion. I would wager that Regina probably can’t use the mirrors in there.

It depends on the time of year when the sun comes up. So if it is winter the sun would come up quite a bit later.

Just made a screen of the headlight (it really is just one, you can even hear the engine, though low).
In slurpeez108’s thread Missing in Action we also get to know that August was supposed to appear in this episode, but they cut him off. It does seem like he was the one who brought MM back to the station in time.

Was gonna ask about the sunrise time, but hadn’t even considered that school would have started at 8. I’m thinking the clock was striking 7 and it reminded them they were working to a deadline so they’d better get moving.

There were also some pictures of the three of them on set with August’s motorcycle. Emma, Mary, and August. And you can even see a hat in one of them. There was some August cut scenes from this episode. And if there was one then there was most likely two as a set up to how August found them.
