I was just thinking how Rumple had Emma use her magic with the dreamcatcher. It was just a little bit at first no harm there, right. It was just a taste to see how powerful you are and what you can do and and it was for good, not evil to get to the truth. Did anyone not hear Regina’s warning. There is a cost to using magic. Did Regina not also learn that cost? She lost the good within her. Emma talk about how she was before she changed several times this season. Now we see Rumple is having Emma using her magic, what will truly be her cost? Will she become Rumple’s new pupil? Think of the power he will have if he can start to control Emma. Will it cause the old Emma to come back? Will she be worse than Regina? It was just some things that popped in my head when I watched the episode again today. I’m home sick so it may also be the cold meds I’m on too.

It would be cool to see Emma learning magic but I think we see the consequences already – Emma blindly believed that what she saw was true and, perhaps BECAUSE of what magic did to her, lost her temper to Regina.
We know she will go on a trip with Gold to find Bae, would he be filling her in with hints and tips on magic? You know, just to kill the time during traveling…January 7, 2013 at 9:44 pm #167378GrimmsisterParticipantHoly Blimey Crikey and What Not !! You just made me think- the cost is Henry. Didn’t Emma say something like “This is a price we are both going to pay” and they where already debating about who gets Henry. Regina said all magic comes at a price.. then Emma said, this is a price we are both going to pay. I guess this has always been what many of us thought would happen.
But to me its clear now. I think this season is going to end with Henry gone, either dead or presumed so. Last season ended with him coming back just last minute, they wont be so lucky this time. This show has a long record of bringing back passed events several times in new ways. And this time it is going to be Emma’s magic tricks that does the deed, as opposed to Regina’s trick with the apple last season.January 7, 2013 at 10:20 pm #167384PriceofMagicParticipantI don’t think they will kill off Henry. It’s a family show and there could be potential for Henry as he grows up to get some really powerful storylines in future seasons. What they don’t want is a situation every season where it becomes Henry’s dead. No he’s not. Yes he is. No he’s not etc. You can only kill off and bring back a character so many times before the audience gets fed up and wants the character to die already and stay dead.
All magic comes with a price!

We can always hope! I truly believe that since bringing Emma back to storybrook, Henry has served his purpose. He is now merely a point of discord between Regina and Emma. The writers don’t know what to do with him anymore and it shows… Let him die his heroic death and move along.

I mean, I think Emma MEANT that Henry is going to get hurt, and neither of them want Henry hurt, so they are both paying, because Henry is hurting…
But man, you bring up a good point! However…

True.
I mean, I don’t want Henry to die, but there is a possibility there.
Also, I was just thinking during “lady of the lake” when SNow and Emma are talking in the old nursery and Emma and her finally have that connecting moment… and then Emma heads out, Snow looks back and pictures what the nursery looked like, and she is just beside herself with grief….
I think that although she LOVES Emma (now) and although she is so proud of her, Snow is so sad that she missed so much of Emma’s life.
I was talking about this with someone else and I was like “what if they ended the show… like finale finale… with them all going back to the time the curse was cast… and they all get a do-over. I mean, it would be totally redundant, but I think it will also kind of give hope… Snow and Charming will get to raise Emma, Henry won’t exist (but will in the future, perhaps, if we find out that Emma and Neal have true love and that Neal is from FTL)….
Not sure how I feel about that, but I felt the scene where Snow looks back was carefully thought out, as was her acting/reaction!
January 8, 2013 at 7:24 pm #167522ChrisParticipantIt was really quite interesting to see Emma use magic knowingly for the first time. I also like your ideas of the price being Henry. What if she looses him to magic? Henry was very interested in the whole matter when Regina prepared the sleeping curse in “Into the Deep”, now with his mothers both tampering around with the magical arts, he could easily become “addicted” to it too.
It also made me wonder, if magic effects Emma’s power of feeling if someone is lying. We already know it is being interrupted by emotion, maybe magic messes it up even more. Otherwise, she should have known that Regina was telling the truth. What do you think?

Very good point. The magic is clouding her judgment.
January 8, 2013 at 8:48 pm #167539eirelandParticipantI think Emma knew Regina was telling the truth and the magic countered that thought… so she trusted magic over herself. I don’t think the magic is actually impacting her intuition, but it is impacting her confidence…
She clearly put more confidence in magic than in herself in this episode.January 9, 2013 at 10:57 am #167645PriceofMagicParticipantAll magic comes at a price. Perhaps that price is a consequence.
Cora used magic to pretend kill Archie and as a consequence Regina got the blame.
Rumple brought magic to Storybrooke and as a consequence he couldn’t cross the town line.
Rumple uses magic to break the barrier curse and as a consequence outsiders may be able to enter Storybrooke.
Rumple used magic to give Henry the dream thing in the fire room and as a consequence Henry got burned badly then Charming used magic to go under a sleeping curse and got stuck in the fire room.
All magic comes with a consequence but that consequence can vary.
All magic comes with a price!
