ParticipantOK, I’ve tried posting links to gif sets twice in here and they’re not showing up. Can anyone else see my new posts, or are they just hiding from me? (I think The Watcher was having a similar problem in another thread just before, they couldn’t see they’d posted, even though they had.)

ParticipantI think the best thing about SF though, is even if you do not get Neal, Emma does.
Let’s see it from her perspective, not just the negatives that some fans point out, but the things she knows about Neal.
She says she knew the moment she saw him again that she still loved him. It means when she said “I love you” she did mean it in a romantic sense. She was not thinking only about how sad it was for Henry. She did not think of it just as losing a friend, because she was devastated. She wanted that second chance as much as he did.
She holds his memory dear. You can tell it in the way she says Neal taught me that and sass-master Regina has no response. The visible emotion that shakes her upon seeing his cave. Even before when he got her back even though he didn’t believe her. Or the way he wanted to be a father, without placing demands on her to be back together with him. The way he accepted her anger, telling her she could keep yelling at him. The way he apologizes for his mistakes, even the ones she’s insistent he isn’t making (like for example, apologizing for not telling her about Tamara, or that Tamara was on her way to town because it might hurt her but she denies she cares). She probably will still be angry, might feel awkward about the things she has done recently, she definitely has questions for him, and Henry will be her priority (and his too). Yet at some point, I hope the writers show us a smile between these two, one of those glorious and rare smiles for both of them that just says “We’re home.”

ParticipantI’ve known about all of the ships (SQ, CS, SF) even before watching OUAT. Even before watching it, I wondered which ship I’d eventually be drawn to. Here’s the thing: despite seeing Hook first and Neal a bit later, Hook never felt like the ONE for Emma in my opinion. Who knows? Maybe Neal’s puppy face won me over, or maybe it’s just the fact that for me, they FIT. They just fit for me. I get fuzzy feelings when I see them together. Whenever I see Hook and Emma together, I feel nothing, no sparks, no fireworks, not even the sizzle the kiss was meant to make watchers feel. Even if SF isn’t endgame (I’m not as confident as all of you, I haven’t been watching for very long), for me CS would make even less sense. I agree with everyone that there was no build-up to the kiss. It was just there, smack-dab right in my face. I’m not that trusting of the media. The writers might very well end the game with CS just to make the gazillion of CS fans happy. But they sunk Gremma and Wooden Swan, who knows maybe CS will just be another one of those ships (Gremma had more chemistry to me than CS and they STILL killed Graham). My dearest wish for this show (Next to seeing Darling Pan happen) would be to see Henry, Neal, and Emma together as one happy family. The three of them have that in common: they’re all original characters, free from any fairytale counterparts. It just wouldn’t make sense to me to make up an original character, one like Emma if they weren’t meant to be together and have her (an original character) be integrated into the Neverland mythos. Captain Hook is fine for me. He’s an interesting character and I don’t think he’s bad (he just made bad choices just like Neal, just like every member of the cast), but unlike a lot of people I find Neal more interesting, his mannerisms, his motivations, his Papa wolf tendencies… Even if A&E says that their Original characters don’t have fairy tale counterparts, Emma and Neal will always be Rapunzel and Eugene (Again another parallelism! Flynn-Eugene, Neal-Baelfire) to me. Punzie and Eugene ended up married, who knows what’s in store for E&N?

ParticipantWelcome to everyone who is new! This is a Swanfire safe haven and all are welcome. It’s nice to encounter people who love Neal and Emma. I loved reading everyone’s comments.
I found another beautifully made Emma and Neal video with lots of S3 footage.

Same, I get all these warm and fuzzy feelings whenever new SFers join our ranks. Welcome aboard. The cookies are to your left and there is complementary hot cocoa with cinnamon in the lounge.
Great new video!!!!

I can see links, not the actual GIF set. (there were issues yesterday on the forums for a few people)
which just goes to show what I always say about parallels, that there are certain tried, tested, and true story elements that gets used over and over again in every story ever. If you’re looking for them, you’ll find parallels for everything. So they can be fun to notice, but they’re not proof of endgame or anything.
So fully agree!!!! E and A are not telling stories that have already been told. In fact, isn’t that one of the big points of the show: these are not the Disney/Pixar/Grimm Brothers/whatever else you can dream up. So parallels are nice to look at but I never set much stock by them.

Well, technically, we did see Neal first, because we saw Bae first. 😉 That may well be part of what draws people to SF, even if not on a conscious level. The fact that even before we knew it was a thing, they’d already started telling us about how it was a thing, because we saw Bae being the reason for the Curse, that Emma was destined to break.
The puppy face sure helps though. 😉
The writers might very well end the game with CS just to make the gazillion of CS fans happy.
CSers may be a big, vocal part of the online fandom, but don’t forget that the overall fandom for this show includes millions of people, most of them not online, they’re just casual viewers. I would think that those casual viewing masses are more inclined to want to see a story like SF play itself out and end up as a happy ending, (like you said, it just makes sense). And at the end of the day, that’s the audience that Kitswitz have to cater for, which is why I have faith that they’ll keep telling the story they always planned.
Welcome to the thread, BTW.

Maaaannnn, that made me all teary. Such a beautifully made vid. Why do they have to be so perfect and so painful all at once.

Yeah I’d just posted the links instead of aaaallll the individual gifs. My posts are showing up for me now, but weren’t right after I’d actually posted them.
Glad you guys enjoyed them 😉
I’ve seen the other parallels to other Emma ships which is what prompted me to make one that ya know, was actually based on a direct parallel within the context of the show and the film. Not merely a freeze frame vague similarity which I could very easily apply to just about anyone on the show. While poking some light hearted fun at those that take sole claim over silly things like this too seriously.
I’d suspected that might have been you, because of the similar avi and shipping sensibilities. 😉 Love your work! 🙂

Phee is making an excellent point and one I’d like to back up with numbers. Going just from season 3, between 9.5 and 11 million people watch ONCE over the 7 days viewing period. Of those 9.5-11 million people, internet fan culture makes up MAYBE 5-10%. This is not to say that internet fan culture isn’t big or unimportant but we have a tendency to think it’s larger based on the fact that we actively engage with it–Twitter, Tumblr, sites like this. The vast majority of viewers of ONCE are not part of fan culture, but simply just watching TV. A and E know this and that is why time and time again Adam has said stuff along the lines of, “we don’t write ships. We write story.” OR “we’re telling the story we want to tell.”
I always think of it as a giant circle. The whole of the circle are all the viewers, let’s go average and say 10 million. Then you take this 10 million people circle and you give 10% of it (to be extra generous) to the internet fan culture–people who engage with this show on various social media and internet based platforms. Then you take that 10% and you divide it amongst ships (since that’s what we are discussing) and according to our master ship list, there are currently 119 ships. So now you gotta fit all 119 ships into this 10% area. Being vocal is one thing. Claiming that being the most vocal = the most popular which in turn = endgame is a fallacy of logic that doesn’t actually matter in the face of the entire circle.

Yep.
The vast majority of viewers doesn’t pick apart screencaps, or recognise if a particular piece of music was used in a scene, or analyse symbolism of every little thing. SF endgame in a very simplified nutshell is: Princess falls in love – Princess loses her love due to the interference of dark magic – Princess overcomes the dark magic forces and is reunited with her love. It’s standard fairytale where the heroine eventually triumphs and gets her happy ending, and that’s what the vast majority of viewers want from the little fairytale show they like to tune in for each week.
