I was JUST coming to post that link!! I may or may not have been stalking You Tube for the last two hours waiting for that video clip to turn up, LOL šŸ˜†

*sigh* I love that Neal just accepts every single thing that Emma says with a look in his eyes that just seems to say, “I understand how you feel and it’s OK that you feel that way because I’m going to fight like heck to may sure you never feel that way again”….and then the HUG TO END ALL HUGS. <3 šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

I love that he gets what she’s going through, all of the, “this would be so much less painful for me if you were just dead instead of right here in front of me again,” because it’s totally the same thing he’s going through with his father. Neal gets her and her fragile emotional state like no one else.

They understand each other like nothing and no one else.Ā  What was amazing though, is how confident Neal sounded (guess Mulan has that effect on people), and he was like a rock, just letting her ugly dark emotions wash over him and saying he will never stop fighting for her.Ā  He knows it is not the right time to worry about the romance, that she has enough to handle, but when it is, (and I still think 3×14 too) he will possibly just say he loves her and hands back the keychain.

Friendly remind that the last time they saw each other, it was like…

I saw that tweet. I think what we’ve been saying for awhile is about to come to pass: everything goes on hold until they get back to SB someday. I’m exhausted already thinking about it. So long as they don’t have Emma vacillate between both guys and they ACTUALLY resolve it, then I’ll consider it an okay story.

Yes, I agree the love triangle will likely play out after they get back to SB. I’m not sure that Emma would ever vacillate repeatedly between Hook and Neal, but she may give it a go first with Hook before she decides on Neal finally (I hope not but it could be). Like I said before I saw this episode, if Emma were ever to give a romantic relationship a go with Hook, it would forever be overshadowed by the fact that she has openly admitted to loving Neal and that she likely always will. Neal will always be in her life in some shape or form because he’s Henry’s father. Emma will always have to deal with these unresolved feelings for her first love, Neal, which is something that Hook is going to have to search in his own conscience because of his own fatherly feelings for Baelfire. Could Hook and Emma truly be happy together knowing that she loves another man and openly admitted to such? I have my doubts that Emma could ever give her heart fully to Hook knowing it belongs still to another. And I doubt that Hook could truly be happy doing the “selfish” thing by denying his son-figure a second chance at a family, especially after Hook seduced Bae’s mother.

    YES THIS!

I think it will also be overshadowed by the fact that I don’t think it’s love Hook is feeling butĀ  sense of relief that he knows he *can* move on. But he’s going to realize that it’s not Emma he wants to move on with.

Also have doubts. He saw the whole exchange between them. He knows despite Emma’s conflicted emotions about how she wished it was a trick of PP, it wasn’t out of malice but out of a deep love that neither time nor space could erase. The only thing that would ever manage to erase her undying love for Neal was death and even then, Emma was barely holding it together post 221.

IĀ  do think most of Emma’s hesitation is about her own reluctance to face all the past pain, her insecurities rather than out of attraction or desire to be with Hook.Ā Ā  These cagey, cagey writers….but we must be patient! As I said…Ariel is the name of a heavily contested city in the wartorn zone between Palestine and Israel.Ā  Perfectly appropriate description of Emma’s heart now, with Hook and Neal both trying to stake a claim–but ultimately this episode didn’t show us that Emma thought much about Hook that way, it seemed pretty one-sided from his part.Ā  We’re supposed to believe in Hope, and I think Second Chances (where oh where is that poster! just make it official already!).

For sure, Emma’s hesitation is not born of her feelings for Hook so much as her own feelings of hurt from her Ā parents and Neal have let her go as a result of that confounded curse. It is going to take a while for her to decide if her feelings of love for her parents and Neal could overcome her fear of abandonment. At the heart of Emma’s trust issues are the fact that her parents initially let her go, even if it was to give her her best chance, so that she’d save them. Likewise, she must reconcile in her heart, not just her head, that Neal let her go for the same reason: to get her home. Emma must first forgive her parents to give them a second chance just as Emma must surely forgive Neal emotionally. And just as Rumple must forgive his own father (as PP so aptly point out in 3×6), before Rumple has a hope of Neal forgiving him, so much Emma come to terms with her own parents before she can emotionally be a good place to accept that true love is enough even to overcome a deep pain from abandonment.

They understand each other like nothing and no one else.Ā  What was amazing though, is how confident Neal sounded (guess Mulan has that effect on people), and he was like a rock, just letting her ugly dark emotions wash over him and saying he will never stop fighting for her.Ā  He knows it is not the right time to worry about the romance, that she has enough to handle, but when it is, (and I still think 3Ɨ14 too) he will possibly just say he loves her and hands back the keychain.

I agree that Neal fully gets where Emma’s head is at currently, because that is where his own is at. Of course, Neal’s own daddy issues are confounded by the fact that his father is the Dark One and has a nasty habit of self-preservation and a horrible prophesy hanging over him that could cost Henry’s life. But, besides that, Neal knows what it’s like to love someone so deeply and still to carry hurt and anger over what happened. At least Emma knows now that Neal left her, not out of malice, but was sacrificing his own happy ending with her to get her home to her family.

Emma does still have anger, of course over Neal’s choices, but she does still love him and it is not just the hurt that terrified her, but alsoĀ  the possibility of experiencing losing him yet again because NL is kind of a death trap.Ā  There’s this demonic maniac who wants her son for who the dingle-hopper knows what reason. They don’t know for sure if they can leave or get him back, and now she found out her father cannot leave the island.Ā  Even if she barely recognizes him AS her father, it still hurt heavily to hear it the other way around too fromĀ  Snow.

If PP is Rumple’s brother, this secret of Snow’s might be the one Pan was most hoping to get out there–that fear of being replaced.Ā  That is we were speculating, the root of PP’s animosity with Rumple, the sibling rivalry story of Peter looking in the window, seeing Mom with new baby, and deciding to go back to the fairies and NL.Ā  (This bit I”ll copy to the secrets thread I think)

I have no idea of their process in writing but I am going to bet they first have the overall theme for the season, the plot and into it they slot the bits that move the character arcs and sub-plots like romances along.Ā  So they do have this whole triangle thing but they have set it into a context where there’s bound to be drama of various people wondering about feeling replaced, or replacing one love with the next or so forth.

The writers always have choices and multiple paths to take in a story. I feel they deliberately wrote this in a way to keep the tension going a bit longer, because really, people have always seen the CSF thing from two wildly different perspectives.Ā  Yet I think one thing emerged–Neal is not afraid of being replaced by Hook, at least, I didn’t read his reaction that way.Ā  He has unconditional love for Emma, and he’s past worrying about whether he’d feel her love in return.

What do you all make of Neal not mentioning Tamara or seemingly moving on to Emma so quickly. Ā I’m actually kind of tired of hearing other people making such big a deal of it. Ā Maybe Neal really thought he loved Tamara but realized he didn’t. Ā Or maybe he was so afraid of getting rejected from Emma that he wanted to fall in love with someone else and there was Tamara conveniently inserting herself there. Ā Either way I really don’t care but I suppose we need some closure and some explanation from Neal on his side of it. Ā I think it’s easy for a person who has never really had a family or anyone to put them first (father choosing power over him, mother choosing another man over her son) to think they are in love with someone who acts like they love you in return. Ā I’m sure Tamara said and did all the right things to make Neal think that she was falling for him. Ā Do I think it disturbing that Neal just moved so quickly from Tamara to Emma? No, because he never moved from Emma to begin with. Had Tamara never betrayed him and they were all still in SB, eventually Neal would have realized that his “love” for Tamara wasn’t real. Ā He would have realized that he still loved Emma and that he was fooling himself. Ā This happens in real life too. But that’s what I love about Neal and Emma’s love. Ā It’s real. Ā It has ups and downs. Ā There is terrible pain and anguish and all of that has to be dealt with. Ā Both of them have family abandonment issues that they have to mend before they can even think of being with each other again. But in the end they will get through it and their bond will be even stronger for it.
