    So so funny!!

    It’s NEAL!

Also the other vid posted by Slurpeez on the previous page was simply amazing.  One of the best Swanfire vids.

I find it interesting that certain things are taken out of context.  I don’t think any of us has said that if Emma chooses Hook, she’s taking the easy way out (as in not taking the hard path and therefore not the “right” path).  Oddly enough it was Emma herself  that said it would be easier for her to put the pain behind her.  She (or the writers) chose that word, not fandom.  I don’t think it will be easy which ever way she chooses to go.  I also consider myself an Emma fan first and foremost.  She’s my favorite character and I don’t appreciate it when people say that if I think she should be with Neal that I am obviously NOT an Emma fan and can only think of Neal.  I don’t think you can claim to see into other people’s head and make any assumptions.  I just may not see things the way you see them.  We all have experiences and preferences that make us view the world differently than one another.  It also makes us view a events and episodes of a show differently as well.  But I know that I view things with my own subjective lens.  To claim that you see subjective material objectively is, well, not very logical.  I consider myself a very logical and analytical person.  But I also have a heart and emotions and sometimes that is going to effect the way I view things.  And I am okay with that.  I have no qualms about admitting that.  And I don’t care if people see things differently than I do.  But I’m not going to assume anything about them and then say that the way they view things is wrong or pathetic.  I actually do like Hook and enjoy watching him.  I just like Neal better for my own reasons.  And I’m okay with that.  I also like Neal with Emma.  I think their story is real.  It isn’t suppose to be your typical fairy tale.  In fact it’s not really a fairy tale it’s just it’s own story.  It’s a story where people got hurt and there were misunderstandings.  There is heartache and pain.  But we all want to see the happy ending where Emma is happy and she’s put all the pain and anguish in the past.  As long as it’s written convincingly and not just for fan service, I’ll be happy if Emma is.

This is something that is beginning to hurt my feels as well. Emma’s my favorite female character. I don’t appreciate being told that I must not care about her or that I don’t “get” her if I choose to ship SF.

But I know that I view things with my own subjective lens. To claim that you see subjective material objectively is, well, not very logical.

Ah…the subjective lens. Girl after my own heart.

I was thinking about the many different couples on this show and the many different forms of love:

    1. First Love: The first and most obvious relationship we’re introduced to in the pilot is Charming and Snow’s love. Their relationship is an example of first love becoming true love, as evidenced by the kiss awakening Snow from the sleeping curse. We can be fairly certain that Snow and Charming had never been in love until they met each other. In 1×6, David tells his mother than when he marries, he wants it to be for true love, implying he’s still waiting to discover it. In 1×15, Snow tells Ruby that having someone you love must be nice but that she didn’t foresee ever finding it since she was on the run. And when Snow and David met by the troll bridge in 1×3, it was love at first sight, as evidenced by Ruth’s true love ring leading Charming to Snow. Another example of first love becoming true love could be Philip and Aurora, since they shared true love’s kiss. There are also other relationships which seem to fit this category, but have not been “proven” by true love’s kiss: Dreamy and Nova, Leopold and Eva, Ruth and her husband, Abigail and Frederick, perhaps Ruby and Peter, Ariel and Eric, Cinderella and Thomas, and Regina and Daniel. I’ll save Regina and Daniel’s relationship for further analysis in in the paragraphs to come.
    2. Parental love. Emma has true love for her son Henry, as evidenced by her maternal kiss awakening her son from the sleeping curse in 1×22. Henry is a lucky kid, because Regina and Neal also have parental love for him too. Other prominent examples of parental love are Snow and David’s love for Emma, Geppetto’s love for Pinocchio, Jefferson’s love for Grace, Rumple’s love for Neal, and Henry Sr’s love for Regina. Cora was a late-bloomer, only realizing she loved Regina at the last moment, but we’ll throw her into mix for good measure, too.
    3. Being in Love vs. True Love: The next type of relationship we see is that between Rumple and Belle. While their love is probably the first romantic love Belle has ever known, for Rumple this is not his first go at romance. It seems Rumple and his wife Milha really were in love, and that once they’d been happy together. However, their love proved not to be true love because Milha couldn’t stand to be married to a coward. Her love was not unconditional, and she eventually ran off with another man, Killian Jones. As the Dark One, Rumple seemed to have a fancy of being in love with Cora, but really, they only loved the darkness in one another. When Cora chose power over love by ripping out her own heart, that pretty much ended things dead in their tracks and came as a rude awakening to Rumple who concluded Cora must’ve never loved him at all. Rumple’s sad , unfortunate encounters with being in love sadly made him believe he was unloveable to the point where he finds it difficult to believe Belle could actually love him. Yet, despite all the horrible things, Belle loves Rumple for the good man he is deep down, making their love unconditional and true.
    4. Second Love. Here is where we’re entering new territory in S3. It was revealed in 3×3 that there is such a thing as a second chance at true love. With Regina, she has allowed herself   fallaciously to believe that once she lost her first love, Daniel, that she’d never get another chance to love again. Yet, Tinerkbell astutely told Regina that a person can learn to love gain and even showed Regina that she has another soulmate alive and well in the EF, who we learned is Robin Hood. So, the opportunity for a second chance at love is real, but it’s simply a matter of whether Regina will learn to accept this new love and move on. By the end of the series, I believe Regina will get her second chance at a happily ever after with Robin Hood. Also, Emma Swan is inadvertently helping Killian Jones learn the lesson that Regina has yet to realize: it is possible to move on from one’s first love. The question remains though whether Emma herself will be Killian’s second chance or whether she is just his stepping stone to discovering true love with someone else.
    5. Rediscovering Love. Is it possible for love to overcome past hurts? Can two people who love each other learn to forgive and start again? From the moment Emma stole Neal’s stolen car, they realized it was the start of something good. Young and in love, two orphans found a home together inside of that little yellow bug in which they conceived their son out of love. The girl who was destined to break a curse and the boy for whom the cursed was meant to locate found love together. And yet, forces greater than themselves conspired against them to keep them apart, such that Neal had to sacrifice his own hope for a home with Emma for the sake of getting her home to her parents. Nevertheless, Emma fulfilled that destiny and found Neal again despite all the odds. Now, Neal isn’t going to give up on his second chance of rekindling a love with Emma without a fight, because he regrets ever having ever let go of her. Emma is now faced with a difficult choice: to bury all the pain of that relationship with Neal or to do the hard thing and examine the past in order to discover if her belief in love is strong enough to overcome her own fear of rejection.
    6. Unrequited Love: Mulan is a woman with very interesting motivations of love, honor, and sacrifice. “Love is sacrifice” is her mantra, and she lives by that code. She fights for a real sense of honor. She seems to love Philip as a brother in arms, and she is fiercely loyal to whomever she serves. First, she was protective of Philip against Aurora, because it seems that Mulan can be a bit possessive at times. And yet we watched Mulan as she came to love and cherish Aurora, perhaps as even more than just a friend. And yet, Mulan has had to go through the pain of watching Aurora and Philip demonstrably share true love’s kiss as well as having a baby together. Mulan’s sense of honor compels her to respect that her two friends, Aurora and Philip chose each other, and yet, it’s painful for her not to have someone love her in return. Unrequited love is full of heartache, but it doesn’t make it any less real. Now the question is whether Captain Hook’s love for Emma will prove to be unrequited or not. If Emma and Neal chose each other, will Hook’s own sense of honor compel him to wish them well?

I AM NOT an expert on anything, and I am not calling either ship endgame This just an analysis of the Swanfire relationship

Emma, Neal, and Henry are all Once original characters as in they have no fairytale counterpart. They are both however the offspring of other fairytales. This is not an accident or  a coincidence . I see Emma, Neal, and Henry as Kitswitz’s very own babies in the story Swanfire is their attempt of making a fairytale family in modern day it has magic but it based entirely in the modern da. Like Adam Horowitz had said poetic was what they wanted to achieve when they had the savior of the curse fall in love with the reason for the curse. They are the “light and dark”both lost in a world not quite there’s  but still able to find each other-cue the “I will always find you!”

    Henry

The blood son of both Emma and Neal. Remember this- “The little guy saved us” even though it was only pretend, for some reason I believe this is important. In multiple ways he has saved them. Henry found Emma who found Neal and therefore  reunited a long broken family. Emma and Neal now are working TOGETHER to saved their son.

Let me make this clear Henry is not my only reason nor is it my strongest for Swanfire. He is simply part of the reason. It would all come full circle to see this family reunited even if his parents do not (for lack of a better term ) hook up they will always be together for him

    Symbols of Swanfire

    •Dreamcatcher

A Dreamcatcher as Neal refers to them is flypaper for dreams, Emma and Neal’s one good dream was to find a home but were both plagued with so many bad dreams about loneliness and abandonment they found home, Tallahassee with each other it was the flicker of hope in their lives

    • Swan key chain.

The biggest swan story in literature is the ugly duckling story. The duckling was lost and never belonged with his kind because he wasn’t duckling but a swan. Finally he flourished  into a beautiful swan and found a home with other swans. Emma and Neal are both ugly ducklings who found each other in this world that isn’t really theirs The Key chain symbolizes a strong connection -chain and discovery -key. They both have an amazingly strong connection to each other and discovered love the ability to love with in them selves which must have been so hard for 2 people who felt unloved by the entire world. If the Key chain ever shows up again and Emma puts it on again its a step closer towards Swanfire

    •The Bug

Yellow in modern and ancient literature symbolizes joy and delight. It is also a symbol of Summer therefore yellow, is associated with sunshine. (Also Tallahassee FLORIDA Florida is the sunshine state!) Sunshine symbolizes hope the basis I believe of this relationship

    •Tallahassee

    1 word- Home

    Obstacles

Kitswitz enjoy throwing obstacles at their couples, i.e. Rumbelle, Snowing, ect. With their lost and found then lost again the found again relationship Emma and Neal don’t have it easy either. There are a lot of parallels,  Swanfire IMO is the the perfect balance of Snowing and Rumbelle.

    Tamara (The evil taser lady)

Neal loved Tamara, no doubt but she never loved him and never intended on marrying him, had an affair while they were “engaged” and later shot him. And you still expect Neal to love Tamara!?! It took Neal at least 10 years for him to even think of being with some else. Neal tried to love beyond Emma and failed at it miserably. – “I tried to lose myself didn’t work” And even then Tamara and Gold were both able to call him out on his feelings for Emma, which he never EVER let go of.

If Tamara really truly loved Neal and wanted to marry him, this relationship would have more weight. But as someone on Tumblr put it “it was just as real as David and Kathryn minus the attempted murder part” It doesn’t hold much water. Even David and Kathryn had some meaning seeing that they somewhat cared for each other before and after the curse. Tamara couldn’t have cared less about Neal and proved it by shooting him. So who can blame Neal from the crazy murdering women to the only women he truly loved

    The Fight for Emma

First of I believe Emma is not prize to win but anyway Neal left Emma 11 years ago broke her heart because she loved him and he was her only home. And it broke his heart because he had loved her and she was his home But Neal saw that Emma’s true faith, she had to save a town full of people from a curse his father created so she could be reunited with her family. And make it home. He also realized he was a pesky thief living out of a car and she was a princess who deserved the world. Which he could never give her So when someone says he never fought for her happiness before that’s not true in this instance he fought his own happiness to save her this not the only instance He saved her. Eleven years later he faced his father for her, a man he would have otherwise blown off. He stepped in front of Emma against Cora. He had to be held back by Emma to save Henry when he wanted to blow up the well He had Emma’s back even though he didn’t believe his fiancé was evil. When the portal open, he stopped she her from falling in which then led to his on fall. He told her to let him go so that Henry wouldn’t be alone, like them. He then WILLINGLY let go of her hand when she refused to let it go. In Enchanted Forest, Neal used the same magic he loathed and had to face his biggest nightmare growing up to get back to his family.  In Neverland, Emma was mourning the memory of Nealfire, realizing how much they truly were alike. And when tells him her secret. He told her he will never stop fighting for her

The Echo Caves also the biggest misnomer ever should have been named The Cry Your Heart Out Cave

This scene is so poetic-Truth paved Emma’s way to Neal Truth destroyed the barriers between her and Neal. It was brutal and heartbreaking it’s was however essential to their healing process- it’s like the cleaning alcohol that you use over a cut before it heals .And that hug, that deep comforting Swanfire hug that made all the fangirls cry

Great essay! Did you write it? I was so impressed by it when I came across it on Tumblr earlier today.

That was a lovely set of thoughts about Swanfire, Twice Upon a Time–and as usual Slurpeez, I read every word and almost strained my neck nodding.

I agree also with RG and Astrawoid from earlier about those subjective lenses and people using these emotionally loaded statements to promote their ship by dismissing another.

I just hope the writers are done with this triangle thing sooner rather than later.  I feel like they aren’t really getting good mileage out of it, as inevitably some fans will storm off, like Screwball talked about.  Triangles can just ruin the characters of everyone involved, make them unlikeable.  All triangles come with a price!

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
