dontstopbelievin
ParticipantPhee & Slurp have excellent points. 1) Neal is not Bae, 2) A&E have proven themselves, several times recently, to concretely be liars. So is there still this tiny shimmer of hope? Sure, it exists until credits roll on 322… particularly as there would be investment (especially this close in) to keeping shock for the finale.
That said, I am just out if energy to fight an increasingly uphill battle. In some ways, I think I’m ready to roll over out of a WANT to go into the finale with no hope. It makes me think of Rumple in Pilot -“I’m right where I want to be.” You don’t have hope, you can’t be disappointed. So bring it on, the triumph of the lying, manipulative pirate, as he gets the girl, wins the love of the love-of-his-life’s son’s true love after wearing her down with his charms. But no trickery, right? We can’t have that. So let’s dance on the grave of the character who drove the WHOLE show – and start celebrating the phenomenal morals of lying and cheating to guarantee yourself a happy ending as we reinforce the message that being a self-sacrificing guy who respects women gets you nothing but dead.
It’s a disbelief in ^ that scenario that gave me hope. But I guess it’s time to start believing.
FWIW, I’ll hardly be on between now and Sunday due to pre-planned real life stuff… I have not abandoned this ship, I love you all to pieces and I’ll be back Sunday for the cry & rage fest. Keep your chins up, y’all – we always knew this part would be the hardest.)

This is where I am too. I’m going in with no hope, no sense of excitement. Just “get it over” mode.

ParticipantBut yeah like I said, we don’t know yet if that’s what they are going to do. So I am simply going to wait and see.
As am I. If it turns out that they DO go there, then I’ll be full of all the rage and disappointment. But the more I think about it, the more it does feel like 3B has been setting Hook up to be Emma’s Toto. Don’t remember which podcast it was on because I’ve listened to a few, but someone somewhere mentioned the WW wanting to drown Toto in WoO, and I looked it up because I couldn’t remember the details, but get this…The WW tells one of her Monkeys to throw Toto in the river to drown, unless Dorothy gives up the powerful shoes. Like, if that’s not a parallel to Zelena telling Rumple to drown Hook to make Emma give up her power, then I’ll eat Zelena’s hat. Seriously! And now Hook is accompanying Emma through a tornado of a portal to another land where she’ll have to discover “home”. And Dorothy was great friends with Toto, he was her constant companion, but that’s where their relationship ended (obviously). So if they’re already paralleling it, then the logical conclusion is that there won’t be romance between them. Many people commented on the complete absence of Toto in the flashbacks. Maybe they didn’t want to push it so far as to actually, visually parallel Hook with a puppy dog, even though they’re doing it metaphorically.

I’ve heard that as well. It’s an interesting idea–dogs represent total loyalty and being your best friend. But obviously, it’s not romantic.

Yes, and it goes back to what I was saying about Hook and Emma’s relationship paralleling the relationship between Alice and Will’s friendship (which was completely platonic). Will saved Alice from drowning in 1×12 just as Alice had saved him from drowning 1×2. Their friendship was based on brotherly and sisterly love, despite not being related by blood. I hope Hook helps Emma find home but that he’ll realize he isn’t her idea of home. Neal was. Henry is. Her parents are. There could be room for Hook in Emma’s life if he were willing to accept that all she wants is friendship. If he could learn to respect that wish, he could actually wind up with someone like Tinkerbell and still maintain a friendship with Emma. (This is probably all wishful thinking but I like to accept it as my own alternate ending).
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

ParticipantI want Hook to find a happy ending, too…so I’m a bit stuck on what that’ll mean for him if he can’t have Emma. But I just don’t see him being HER happy ending.

I know what you’re saying but the whole “if he can’t have Emma…”
He has no right to HAVE her. No one gets possess another human being simply because they wish it. You give yourself freely in love not because someone worked so gosh darn hard and now they get a present!
