I had that exact same thought when I watched BTTF 3 tonight. You totally read my mind. The name on the headstone changed and then vanished. Hmmmm

Yes, that’s right, the name changed from Doc’s name to Clint Eastwood (the alias Marty was using) then events changed again and the headstone dissapeared entirely.

Aaaaannnd now I’m getting visions of Neal’s headstone vanishing and the rose that Henry laid on top dramatically falling to the ground in slow motion.

What beautiful imagery that would be.

Just saw that interview answer where they said that BTTF is their fave script ever and one they wish they’d written themselves. How can they write an homage to BTTF and not include death aversion, which is a recurring theme? Halfarsed homage = DO322. Legit homage = MO322.

Ya know, they could do that and still not be lying about Neal not being in the finale. We could see that, but nothing more until some point in season 4.

So I wrote another snarky thing. Oops.

    #hope

You know what Adam and Eddy? I do have hope. Even after everything you’ve put us loyal fans through over the course of this season I can actually buy into your incessant tag line of #hope, but probably not in the way you want me to.

I have #hope that your ratings will reflect the quality and caliber of programing you have and will continue to create, whether good or bad.

I have #hope that you will remember how rewarding and moving having characters driving their own stories can be.

I have #hope that viewers will see the disservice you’ve done to your female characters this season, by dumbing them down and taking away their agency, by making them objects to be won rather than creators of their own destiny.

I have #hope that there will be an outcry from the fans and the media about your (hopefully) unintentional promotion of misogyny and violence against women. That the women on your writing staff calmly explain to you that having characters who make lude and suggestive comments to the female characters, who encroach on their personal space is unacceptable and a far cry from the romantic vision you constantly promote in the media.

I have #hope that you will realize the detriment that perpetuating these kind of sexist and abusive character traits on the show does to a generation of little boys and girls growing up who see these actions in the media and grow up thinking this is how things are, that this is okay, that this how men and women are supposed to interact with each other.

I have #hope that those who deserve it will get their happy endings, and that it will happen before you get cancelled.

I have #hope that I’m not the only one who feels this way, and that even if you ignore us we will be out there, and we will speak our minds, and that eventually people will realize that the “hope” and the “happy endings” are over.

I have #hope that once this season is over I will finally be able to move on and heal my broken heart.

    Linkity Link

I also have an extended version of this that I wrote (but it seemed too wordy), which I’m happy to share if anyone is interested.

THIS SO MUCH. And it’s not just kids, but everyone of any age who shouldn’t be led to believe that that type of behaviour is acceptable and should be rewarded. Those tweets that Adam sent to someone who had brought up this topic, he ended up deleting them, and I dunno what that means exactly, but it suggests that maybe there was a PR meeting, so maybe the voices of those already speaking out about it ARE being recognised as existing.

In one of the interviews, they said something like how Hook would face some big decisions in the finale. If that’s to be believed, then perhaps we will actually see him have an attitude adjustment and back off to give Emma some space and respect. But if we instead see Emma just suddenly have a change of heart and concede to him despite all of her previous non-interest, then I hope they get called out on it. I hope media sites will report on the problematic nature of it, and that A&E will be forced to pay attention and respond.

    All of this.

Do you know what “kindred spirits” means to me?

Two people who felt abandoned, unwanted, finding each other against all odds. Two people who know darkness and pain and sadness and loss. Two people just looking for someone to need them because it is no longer a feeling their accustomed to.

They toss the words “kindred spirits” around to describe Emma and Hook constantly and it doesn’t fit. Because they’re not. They went down two entirely different paths, found two different ways of dealing with their pain, and they didn’t find each other against all odds, Hook was planted into their group by Cora. He was a plan. It wasn’t fate. It wasn’t two lost souls finding each other in the middle of a ravaged land.

Emma and Neal were always kindred spirits. Two lost, damaged people finding each other without even being aware of their connection, finding love in a hopeless situation, making a family and a home out of a yellow bug they both stole. They were beaten down by life and they found happiness. They lost each other for some greater good that neither of them understood the extent of and then they found each other.

They are kindred spirits. They are the daughter of light and the son of darkness, they completed each other in a way that neither of them understood at the time. They made a son with the heart of the truest believer. They created a safe place when they thought it didn’t exist. They protected each other and the ones they loved, over and over again.

Just stop calling Emma and Hook kindred spirits because they don’t fit into that category for me. Stop trying to justify killing a character for the sake of a live triangle by tossing around words and placing meaning on a relationship that feels forced.

Neal and Emma could have been a great love story. It had all the factors that made it beautiful and real and meaningful. Just because one pirate who wears too much leather became more popular than he was supposed to is no excuse for ending something that could have been amazing. It is wasted potential and no amount of throwing around the words “kindred spirits” is going to change what has already been done.

I wonder if someone somewhere has all of those tweets catalogued? From what is there at the moment it appears the discussion continued beyond what I saw (“We don’t support terrible things”? What was that in reply to?) and for him to delete it is pretty interesting.

My hope is that they are making statements from Hook’s POV, without discussing Emma’s reaction, as a way to drum up viewership BUT that the show itself will make a clear statement on how his actions are not okay. It would explain why they appear to support something, and yet, Adam seems almost unable to stop himself from replying in defense. Is it PR or too far into spoiler territory? I can see it being the latter, if the show makes a clear statement on how they feel about the subject. This is one where I am choosing to watch 322 and see how it plays out (while fully comprehending that the CS “worst case scenario” will likely happen.)

There is this tiny voice hollering in my gut that I must watch 322, watch it all the way to the end. Dunno what that’s all about, but that instinct has been growing stronger the last couple of days. As I pondered the WoO/dream theory, to see if it made sense that all of what we’ve seen made sense as Emma’s subconscious fears etc (it does, it really does,) I realized that the bottom line for me is that this half-season has been so heinously “off” of everything we know to be true about this show, about this story, about this ship – and I’m cool with pretty much anything that will fix that. We have this “secret scene,” and the way A&E have been about it leads me to think it is dependent on the rest of the ep. So I guess ultimately I am still hoping they pull this out of the toilet, and if it takes a dream sequence or changing the past to do that, I am ok with that. I am, still, just having a hard time accepting this show has changed its moral compass so blatantly, and so quickly.

Super interesting thought about the poster and the disappearing photo. I’ll accept the headcanon that it’s brilliance, and not sheer incompetence (until finale proves it elsewise, sigh.)

Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...
