"Because... it was born out of true love."November 10, 2013 at 9:01 pm #222727Slurpeez
ParticipantI just finished watching 3×7 and I feel so disappointed in Hook’s lack of good form. I really wanted to give Hook the benefit of the doubt, that he would have learned after 300 years, not to hurt the people he claims to care about. If Neal is such a good friend of his, a son-figure to him, then why were the first words out of Hook’s mouth to Neal words of competition for the woman Hook *knows* Neal loves? Hook just showed his true colors.
For all of S3, I really tried hard to be open-minded about Hook, to give him the benefit of the doubt, to say that yes, he’s grown. And yet, it’s really as if Hook has learned nothing after he seduced Milha and played a part in destroying little Baelfire’s family. A few centuries on and Hook is trying to seduce Emma right out from under Neal’s nose. Let’s look at his dialogue with Emma in which he declared he was showing good form by telling her about Neal. I give him props for saving Neal, but what I question is Hook’s sense of loyalty to friendship. Remember Ariel? She chose to save Snow White, her friend, over a chance to be with Eric in the EF. Now, Ariel had good form.
Hook: I assumed you told him of our shared moment.
Emma: Why would you assume that?
Hook: I was hoping it meant something.
Emma: What meant something was that you told us Neal was still alive. Thank you. I realize you could’ve kept Pan’s information to yourself.
Hook: Why would I have done that?
Emma: I don’t know. Maybe Pan offered you a deal. Why else would he tell you?
Hook: It was a test. He wanted to see if I’d leave an old friend to die, even if the old friend happens to be vying for the same woman I am.
Emma: And you chose your friend?
Hook: Does that surprise you?
Emma: You are a pirate.
Hook: Yeah, that I am. But I also believe in good form. So when i win your heart, Emma, and I will win it, it won’t be because of any trickery. It will be because you want me.
Emma: It’s not a contest, Hook.
Hook: Isn’t it? You’re gong to have to choose, Emma. You realize that, don’t you? Because neither one of us is going to give up.
Emma: The only thing I have to choose is the best way to get my son back.
Hook: And you will.
Emma: You think so?
Hook: I have yet to see you fail, and when you do succeed, well, that’s when the fun begins. To top it all off, Hook is now demanding Emma must choose either him or Neal. Um, excuse me, but where does Hook get off? I’m glad Emma called him on his huge assumptions! He and Emma shared one kiss and now he thinks he can boss her about? I shudder to think how possessive Hook would be if they’d actually slept together. She probably regret having given Hook that kiss at all and now realizes she had better get her head back in the game of saving her son. Henry is the only one Emma can choose, because she must put her son’s best interests first. I don’t think Hook really cares about Henry, except as a means to an end, since Hook thinks that by saving Henry, he’ll make his way into Emma’s be…I mean heart. Has Hook seriously never taken no for an answer? Hook doesn’t strike me as really caring about Emma’s son, and yet, that is the measure of what Emma really values in a man, how much he really values Henry’s best interests.
Emma: We almost lost our shot at capturing the shadow because you two were fighting over a lighter!
Hook: It wasn’t the lighter we were fighting over, love.
Emma: Okay, let me be very clear about something! If I had to choose someone, I’d choose Henry. He’s the only love I have room for in my life.Let’s compare and contrast what Hook said to Emma to what Neal said to Emma.
Neal: I just want to say that you’re right…about Henry. He is all that matters and if he’s the only thing that came from us being together. I say we did all right.
Emma: Yeah, now let’s go get our son back.Neal, the father of Emma’s child, the man who would do anything for his family, even sacrifice his own life, says having Henry would be enough to know he came from them. Neal is truly a family man deep down. This was spoken like a true gentleman, and I’m glad to see that he’s not making demands of Emma. Neal is not pushing for anything more with Emma now, he’s just being there for her when she needs his help. Instead, he’s swallowing his pride and teaming up with Hook so that Neal and Emma can get back *their* son.

Keymaster*sigh*
This one hurt. I won’t lie. This episode felt like a major CS plug, a big whopping: we are going there plug.
I’m disappointed in Hook’s demanding that Emma choose. I am disappointed that Hook doesn’t remember that this whole time he’s been thinking of Nealfire as a son. I am disappointed that in the testosterone filled fighting of the both of them.
I am proud of Emma and her reading them the riot act.
Hang on. Bumpy seas ahead.

I agree slurpeez108. Admittedly I was disgusted by how both men acted during the dark hallow scene, but Hook most of all since he said bluntly to Emma she must choose him or Neal at the worst moment!!! While Emma is so preoccupied with saving Henry. I’m glad that Emma shot him down and put him in his place. I already had the feeling that Hook didn’t really care about anyone else in the group other then Emma and in this episode he’s really a piece of work. The line when he says “I have yet to see you fail, and when you do succeed, well, that’s when the fun begins.” As you said Slurpeez108 getting Henry is a means to an end for Hook. If Emma wasn’t in the picture I’m not sure he would even lift a finger to save Henry. He seems anxious to get Henry so that Emma can put it out of her mind and into more “important matters” *Ahem namely him*

She keeps saying that the kiss meant nothing but Hook keeps insisting that she needs to choose. That bothers me a great deal.

It is really bothering me that in 222 they showed Hook turning around for BOTH Emma and NEAL but lately it’s all Emma. As if he’s totally forgotten that just a few episodes ago he was mourning Bae like a son.

ParticipantI think I actually cringed at some the Hook and Emma parts. I don’t think he was being gentlemanly at all in the end. At first he seemed okay but then talking to Emma in the forest and then fighting over lighting the candle. He just got on my nerve. And did he even apologize for fighting with Neal in dark hollow? I’m pretty sure Neal apologized twice! Once after they finally got the shadow and then again before they all went to go after Henry. He knew it was wrong to be fighting with Hook but I get it that he almost couldn’t help it. He just found out that the love of his life was just kissing the man that had also been in a relationship with his mother. It’s got to be weird to him and I’m sure he doesn’t want to have lost both his mother and the mother of his son to the same guy. I felt for Neal this episode. But Emma was completely justified in her yelling at both men and setting them straight. I did not like how she called after Hook but not for Neal when the shadow took them both. I hope she is still adjusting to Neal being back. I felt bad for Emma too because all she wants to focus on is Henry and that’s all that she feels like she has room in her heart for. 🙁

So much for good form?
Does Hook think that he has special insight into Emma’s psyche? Because this is twice now (to his face) that she has stated the kiss didn’t mean anything. And yet “you must choose between us.”

Yes. Henry is all she can handle right now. She can’t handle Neal being alive and all those repressed feelings. She can’t handle Hook’s eye and declerations. She can’t handle her father almost dying. She can’t handle Snow’s confession that she wants a do over baby. Henry is all she can handle right now.

What if Hook did mourn Bae, but he acted that way more to commiserate with Emma so that they could get closer and bond over his death? I know that sounds kind of creepy and sneaky on Hook’s part (and I don’t really think that) but it was just a thought.

ParticipantActually part me feels that Hook outward mourning was his attempt to try and bond with Emma. And he doesn’t seem to really be there for Henry at all, its more I want Emma so I’ll play nice with her son so I can get her???
