KeymasterIt’s horrible storytelling, really. How do you kill a character, tease a return, have the means to easily and logically execute said return and then not deliver?
Rumple being totally OOC in that moment when he drinks the potion…I think it’s the most OOC moment of the season.

ParticipantHonestly I was kinda at peace after this episode. I loved almost the whole ep, even if I’m mad at Rumple for lying to cover his lies and annoyed at A&E for keeping Neal dead.
But one thing I think this cemented for me is that there’s no question that Swanfire is/was True Love. And I still have this vague hope that Rumple is going to find a way to bring his son back.
Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. My spreadsheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6r8CySCCWd9R0RUNm4xR3RhMEU/view?usp=sharing

If you’ve found peace, then good.
I’m angry that CLEARLY Emma’s concept of home stems from Neal and she got back her magic because of Neal and then Rumple goes and is OOC and we are forever denied Neal returning.

ParticipantI do almost wonder, Keb, if they are going to loophole it around to somehow bring back Baelfire… a version who has no knowledge or recollection of any time ever spent with Emma. How Henry would still exist, I haven’t a clue, but given the lack of sense and logic on this show, it wouldn’t surprise me. Some sort of re-cast, 30-something Baelfire, who somehow has to be convinced that in some alternate life he was a car thief who has a teenage kid.
It seems to stick out like a sore thumb that they ignored that one key piece of BTTF, and that would give Bae back to Rumple without messing with CS.
Also, RG, yeah. Yet another OOC necessary to make this dumb half-season plot work.
Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...

ParticipantI think the only other logical thing they can do with Neal/Baelfire if they aren’t able to get MJR back is to have Neal reincarnate without his memories and pretty much “start over”.
We will meet again, in another life...

I had very little hope going in but now I have even less than none. It’s over. They named the baby after him. It’s over.

ParticipantBarbara Barnett wrote a critical review of the finale. She’s a BIG Rumple fan and she said this half a season ruined the character for her. Wow. She also had a critical review of Hook in the comments.
I’ve had some great Twitter chats with Barbara Barnett in the past and I think she’s pretty awesome. I loved this review because she hit the nail on the head about the big things wrong with the show. It’s becoming the “Hook & Emma show” and she’s totally not a fan of it either. I think the fact that she wasn’t that annoyed with CS at the start of S3B but is now calling the two trolls out on making this the CS show while at the expense of everyone else is VERY telling of how many people they’ve honked off. The comments were all pretty spot on too aside from a few tooly CS people who tried to defend their ship there (not very well either, LOL). She’s always been a huge supporter of this show and for her to be this annoyed with it tells me all I need to know about the finale.

That was brilliant. And I’m glad other people are now calling the writers out.

ParticipantI started writing on the bus and almost began to cry. I’m at work now, so I can’t afford to start being a blubbering mess, but I’m still 20 different shades of angry and hurt and upset and broken, and it’s all because of a stupid TV show. This was my outlet, you know? Something to fall into deeply and just get lost in, except now I feel like it’s gone away and taken part of me with it.
I know there’s a group on Tumblr talking about rewriting 3B, but if people here are thinking about doing the same and wants someone who can write a lot of sad, I’m in.
Also, @Sad Twin – thank you for finding me lyrics! I didn’t know it was also another song (and yet the same song).

ParticipantRG, I do agree, and I have no question that “Neal” is forever gone from our screens. I am wondering though if as the show wanders farther and farther away from its initial premise, if they might have to take a hard look at what went wrong and we might end up with some sort of weird adventure to find “Baelfire,” who bears no resemblance to “Neal Cassidy,” at some point down the road. I’m not sure I want it and I definitely don’t think I’d ship it, it was more just a passing pondering.
Unfortunately for Once, I think they will find too late that when you yank the heart out of something, the limbs that provided visible movement might keep waving for a while, but without that central support, it will collapse upon itself. It was so astonishingly clear upon our watchback that this show oriented itself around this story, often in subtle, quiet ways, but now there is no purpose for several of the characters nor the overarching theme of the show. Rumple will have a back-and-forth with Belle, until they sort this dagger nonsense out, and then? His reason for being is gone. When they ask themselves, “Where did it all go wrong,” I think the answer will be blindingly clear, especially since I think A&E already know. Watching that, in my heart of hearts, I saw the story we should have had and watched them try to tell it through the story they had to tell… realizing that’s what’s been going on the last few eps. They tried to hang onto that heartstory as best they could while putting the focus elsewhere, but they can’t do that forever. Whatever went down, I think Once3B is an indicator of what is to come and at some point, there may be a strange, last-ditch effort to save the show. It won’t succeed; the show won’t make it long with the storytelling we’ve just been witness to, and that makes me sadder than anything. When you sell out to fanservice at the expense of the story, and damage it beyond repair, you can’t go back to the story and expect it to work – but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.
