I’d be game for helping with a 3B rewrite, as well. I have a fic premise, but I’m not in love with how it’s turning out so I’d be happy to do something else instead.

Something tells me spending the summer trying to fix this in fanfic for my sad, tired brain is not going to give me the space I need to get over it. 🙁

Unfortunately for Once, I think they will find too late that when you yank the heart out of something, the limbs that provided visible movement might keep waving for a while, but without that central support, it will collapse upon itself. It was so astonishingly clear upon our watchback that this show oriented itself around this story, often in subtle, quiet ways, but now there is no purpose for several of the characters nor the overarching theme of the show. Rumple will have a back-and-forth with Belle, until they sort this dagger nonsense out, and then? His reason for being is gone. When they ask themselves, “Where did it all go wrong,” I think the answer will be blindingly clear, especially since I think A&E already know. Watching that, in my heart of hearts, I saw the story we should have had and watched them try to tell it through the story they had to tell… realizing that’s what’s been going on the last few eps. They tried to hang onto that heartstory as best they could while putting the focus elsewhere, but they can’t do that forever. Whatever went down, I think Once3B is an indicator of what is to come and at some point, there may be a strange, last-ditch effort to save the show. It won’t succeed; the show won’t make it long with the storytelling we’ve just been witness to, and that makes me sadder than anything. When you sell out to fanservice at the expense of the story, and damage it beyond repair, you can’t go back to the story and expect it to work – but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.

Problem is that I don’t think the story will be lasting much longer for them to get to a point of “where did we go wrong”

I think that’s totally valid, RG. S4 is likely it, unless they can get a 13-ep order for S5 in order to wrap up loose ends and hit 100 episodes, which is kind of where I envision something like this falling into place. Like I said, it was just a passing thought, not something I expect is in the works now, but perhaps might pop up again in the future.

4A will be Frozen, apparently, and I sincerely hope A&E know that they better be writing 4B toward a coherent finale.

Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...

Well they teased a splashy wedding and throw some Rumbelle suppose please scene in the very end. Does the well equate splashy.  I just felt they were tossing the Rumbellers a bone to help keep them occupied. Here chew on this and keep watching as we see Mr. and Mrs Gold run the shop together up until 4.2 when she finds out about the dagger and Zelena and politely leaves only to be separated by some other event.

I’m currently watching another show doing a wedding and they are handling it very well and its integral to the plot yet not over powering at the same time. It also segueing other characters into the wedding as well and we see how potential bride and groom are not the only ones effected by the wedding.

But it seems like the tagline posters were switched with Neal and Hook.

Neal: Believe a lost boy can become a hero

Hook: Believe a pirate can get a second chance.

They made Neal the hero and Hook got to be a pirate.

As for Dark One Rumple I am surprise to hear that at the very height of his desperate search to see his son he was perfectly okay to just shrugged his shoulders let Neal remain die. This is a guy who created a curse to find his son at the expense of so many others, will he really just be okay with accepting that he died. Perhaps New Rumple but Old Dark One Rumple. Rumple would find away, that’s what he chanted to Blue, I would find a way. Fishy MC Fish Sandwich with extra tarter sauce. I just have a hard time believing that.

The Carrousel Scene, this is what I love about Emma and Neal there was so much hope and so much life with them and I rooted for those crazy kids to get their happy ending. I wanted that lost boy and that lost girl to find a home, a family. One would get that the other would not. Perhaps this is a Jack and Rose thing like the Titanic situation.  Death separated them, but Jack gave Rose some inspiration and hope to break free from her beautiful prison. Rose married, had children, loved and was happy. She went on with her life but she never stop loving Jack. And when she died, her spirit Joined Jack on the titanic by the clock. I like to think that Emma and Neal will reunited with each other on Carrousel by the beach, in their own personal heaven called Tallahassee.

S4B = Camelot
S5A = the return to the EF and the end of OUAT

So my betting that S4, will be all of the same, we will get Emma vs Regina, if by any chance Rumple finds throught belle( because people will know that emma and hook went to the past, and brought marian) that he helped them and took the potion( guess he can make a potion to remenber), i see Emma and hook having problems as well with dark one, and lets not forget Henry, how he fits in all this? when his mother had the chance to save his father and instead choose not and is even in a relation with hook, brought someone  that was dead and ended his other mother happiness, i see Henry going against Emma too, so once again drama, drama, drama, and more  of the same, if conbine with Elsa( villain or not villain), was that scene just a tease?, and she will appear only on fb like ariel for only one 1 episode?How Will fits into this? Where is Ana?

Bc the trolls confirmed that S4 starts few minutes after S3 end so they get a new vilain, will they need to go back in time again to fix other things? bc Elsa appears probably bc on something emma did on the past. Is there any possibility that marian being alive also screw Will time with Robin and made all timeline in WL suffer as well? Will they have 2 sets of episodes and will do like 2 seasons again? or will go with one big story for the 22 epi, even if they get separate in the middle by 3 months hiatus.

I dont see them having much more stories to go to, if they bring Frozen or Brave, what will they do next chicken little? walle? wreck it Ralph?

@Sad Twin, you’re welcome. I gotta say (and this may sound bad but) I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this upset. Many seem more at peace for some reason, but I feel anything but at peace. Yes I expected all the bad and got all the bad, but somehow I am still gutted as though this all came out of nowhere. Perhaps I had some hope left in me that I wasn’t aware of and the pain of losing that hope is now hitting me quite hard.

I’m with RG. Once is done with Neal, done with Bae, done with MRJ and Dylan. They are done. They are never looking back. And it hurts.

I don’t think we’ll ever see Nealfire ever again, even in flashbacks. Character development post death? Nah.

I think it’s beyond odd that magic beans popped into existence out of nowhere, rather than Hook having to destroy the JR to get “Enchanted Wood Magical Ashes” to make a portal in Lake Nostos ala Cora. Or perhaps he could have made a “cabinet” of sorts, surely a pirate like him knew another woodcarver like Gepetto. Had they done that, it would have felt more “well-plotted” and consistent with earlier storytelling, and of course, been a grander sacrifice as the ship would be GONE. Imagine if he had to either melt down the compass they’d stolen from the giant or use it as a magic doorknob, with the door vanishing once used? It just would have been more imaginative, more romantic, and more of a call-back to Hook and Emma’s story together. Instead we get beans out of nowhere, plus bonus, the JR is out there, just waiting for Hook to steal it back as he did from Blackbeard, which lowers the degree of sacrifice.

Of course, lowered sacrifice is kind of a theme, what with Regina’s great big separation from Henry lasting a year, without her having to sacrifice anything huge to really reunite with him, such as if she’d had to actually erase all knowledge from everyone of her having been Henry’s mother, ever. Of course, that’s sad for Henry but not really, as we see with Neal, all he needed to be told is he had an adopted mother, and she died a hero!

I am so cynical though, that I truly believe if fans wanted Neal, if the tumblrs demanded it –the writers could easily find a way to reveal Rumple didn’t drink that potion after all. That is totally in synch with the BTF movies. That he did some sleight of hand, or even had already consumed a memory preserving potion on time release designed to change only the events leading up to Neal’s death from being split apart. Yet I don’t think it would happen short of Tumblrs demanding it.

I wonder what would happen if they’d recast Neal. I know some of you would hate it, but I feel it almost sort of fits into this world to happen. Neal is who Bae grew into, after a lifetime of rough experiences, but if Rumple were to bring his son back, in a sneaky, sneaky way, well, some magical transformation might be involved to bring him back from vault of good into a new body, one more “tumblr” ready perhaps. Afterall, Rumple knew how to turn people into puppets, perhaps he studied the secret of how to reverse that, and make enchanted wood into a body? Hm, the JR is out there as I just said. Wouldn’t that be fitting for Hook to steal back the JR, and for its wood to be sacrificed for Neal to return? Plus it makes Rumple keeping those puppets more purposeful and less just creepy.

There are so many good actors cut loose after all the cancellations of various TV series, there’s more than a few I’d happily accept as “Bae Reborn”. The original Wheel of Time series, though it has been AGES since I read it, did feature reincarnation as well. The third book is called “The Dragon Reborn” and literally, it reveals the Champion of Light (hm, Neal means Champion) must be reborn to destroy the Dark One in each new pattern. I’m not sure to what extent OUAT is trying (or was trying) to loosely bring in themes from WoT, but I’d say given popular culture, wouldn’t be odd for them to incorporate more of that story for when they’re ready to really touch the Dark One mythology. Game of Thrones is quite popular, and among High Fantasy readers, these two series are often comapred (but I think personally GoT superior). There was for a time, interest in bringing WoT to TV as a miniseries but it never worked out.

It’s quite funny as I never completed reading Wheel of Time, actually felt about it much as I am with OUAT. I saw the potential but I grew quite disenchanted with each book due to various plot holes, characters being left underdeveloped and other things, and I stopped reading. The author who wrote it died actually before even completing the work! I like books by the new author, Brian Sanderson, picked to finish it, but never got around to reading Sanderson’s take on the series as I’ve largely forgotten it until it came up on here as a comparison.
