I never watched LOST but I do know from fandoms colliding and people in chat that nobody like the triangle on that show and this is becoming Lost 2.0. You’d think they’d have learned from the criticism of last time. But they don’t. Writers for some reason are in love with the drama that love triangles bring.

I was a *die hard* LOST fan and while I do see some similarities I don’t think it’s LOST 2.0 triangle style, though when I sit down to sketch out the differences between the two I wonder if it’s just spliting hairs. I really need ONCE to not drag out the triangle as long as it lasted on LOST.

Someone please stop me from sending a very nasty tweet to the official OUAT twitter because I’ve been fighting that all evening.

The official account is a horrid excuse for a social media account of a social fandom. The fact that they think it’s Neil and not Neal…oh blood boiling. They need to learn to be the great equalizers. Equal representation of all possible major ships.

    Ranisha that’s a lovely picture

Oh, I won’t hold you back from saying anything to the official ABC account.  They’ve been ineffectual all season.  Monkeys, I tell you, run by monkeys.  I know people get on NBC as being the worst network but ABC isn’t doing that hot of a job, either.  Not happy with them at all.

I liked your tweet to Adam.  You hate to say anything negative and I despise people that go on and blast him, but sometimes you just wander what is going on in their minds and have to get it out there.  This is really not even to do with shipping, but how they’re treating the character of Neal, regardless of who he ends up with.

I realized why that scene in 3×7 between Hook and Emma bothered me so much. Normally, when a man says he wants to win a woman’s heart, it ought to come across as romantic. And yet with Hook, it just came across as sleezy! Remember this little threat he made to Emma in “The Queen of Hearts” 2×9. There is a parallel:  Hook says WHEN he does X, Emma WILL do X. Just no! Emma won’t do anything you tell her to, Hook!

I know the S2 Hook was vengeful and suddenly now he’s supposed to be a hero, but I just feel repulsed. When Hook said that Emma would feel his sword I wanted to hurl him off a cliff! The way he spoke to her wasn’t just demeaning, it was downright shameful! And suddenly, I’m supposed to believe Hook is above using trickery? Nope, not buying any of it, Hook! He may have real feelings for Emma, but he’s not so reformed, and he’s not acting like a man of honor. He’s shown NO remorse about helping ruin Bae’s life, and now he’s trying to do it again. Nope, just nope! Okay, rant done. Sorry, I just had to get that ickiness out of my system, and I know I can do so here with out fear of starting WWIII.

That line from QoH…*sigh* I love A and E but that line should have been tested to some fans or something to gauge reaction. Hook has her on her back, by force, and is talking about his penis. I’m not a prude and I enjoy a good smoulder or smut but…she’s literally battling to get away. It came across as…well rape, to be perfectly honest. There are some lines you don’t cross and that’s one. And from Emma’s POV that only happened maybe 2 months ago.

A word about Hook’s reform. I think I can say it here since this is our place. I was really bothered by how fast and the circumstances surrounding Hook’s sudden desire to become a pirate. Yes, your brother dying is incredibly sad and that will haunt you for all of time. But…Liam..was an idiot. I mean who on earth takes a plant they know nothing about and cuts themselves to prove a point?! Hiking 101, guys! His backstory, for me, wasn’t anywhere near as sad as Rumple’s or Regina’s. To me it was more like Cora. Cora has a tragic upbringing but she let one incident define her future. This is why I had such a problem with 305. Rumple suffered years of mental abuse for his entire life. Regina suffered mental abuse and physical abuse from Cora and then had her lovers heart ripped out. Hook had what was a good life, despite being left by his father. He had an older brother who loved him and looked out for him and made sure he grew up right. And I’m not trying to diminish Hook’s loss by any means but becoming a pirate seemed like such a leap! (ok ok ok Im done) But I’m not a Hook expert, maybe Phee will shed some light for me.

Our feedback reaches them after the episodes are largely done and written.  So it will be months before they can address things we say.   By then it feels like water under the bridge–they’ll be out of NL and whatever was swept under the rug will have been too far buried to worry about.

Someone on tumblr reblogged this but I can’t find the original gifs:

    She’s got glasses, he’s got a keychain….

    Michael’s teddybear is on a keychain….john’s got his glasses….

    What ‘s the common theme–family.

I saw this post on Tumblr which sums up why I’m not overly concerned about Emma and Hook:

    Emma To Neal:
Season 2: I need you. I love you.
Season 3: I never stopped loving you. I love you and I probably always will.

    Emma ABOUT Hook:
    Was just a kiss

Shall we look again at what Emma said to Hook?

Hook: I assumed you told him of our shared moment.
Emma: Why would you assume that?
Hook: I was hoping it meant something.
Emma: What meant something was that you told us Neal was still alive. Thank you. I realize you could’ve kept Pan’s information to yourself.

Reading between the lines, Emma isn’t acknowledging the kiss meant anything to her, she’s acknowledging that Hook telling her about Neal is what counts. Hmmmmm. Say again? Hook is trying to bate Emma into admit feelings for him and instead she thanks him for his honesty about Neal. Yep, the last thing a man wants to hear when trying to woo the woman of his affections is about another man. Emma’s thoughts were not on Hook or that kiss. Her thoughts were on Neal and Henry even when Hook cornered her into trying to force a decision from her. It’s going to take a lot more than emotional-blackmailed tribute kisses, Hook, for Emma to trust you have honorable intentions for her and her son.

Welcome to the thread, Katie! 🙂

Just got caught up on the last several pages and I wanna hug all of your posts and scream AMEN!

Honestly, it seems pretty blatant to me that they’re writing Hook as the bad guy in this situation. It feels like they’re writing him in a pretty extremely negative way when it comes to his treatment of Emma. And I have to think that the reason they’re doing that is that they’re writing a crash and burn for CS, so they’ll eventually be able to move on with developing SF without the possibility of CS still lingering in the background to distract from the story they really want to tell. So while the current situation hurts and sucks, I’m holding out hope that there’s a method to the madness. If you think of Kitswitz as people, do you think they’d be like Hook in their treatment of women? I’d like to think not. I’d like to think that they respect the women they’re in relationships with, and for that reason, I can’t imagine them compromising their morals, no matter what ABC publicity might want, to have their heroine end up with a guy who acts like Hook. They wrote SF as being “poetic”, that’s Adam’s own word he used. They see the beauty in SF’s story, and I believe that after all the pain, separation and angst, SF are gonna get a beautiful, happy ending.

Also, I want to remind everyone that LilRedSoupBowl on tumblr has been putting together all the voting for Nealfire’s fan names. I’m pretty sad at the finalists, after months of voting. 🙁 But she is still taking submissions so if you have any ideas, get them in LIKE TODAY.
My fav was Darlings, but Baelonians beat it. Today I’ve suggested she add “DarlingFires” “DarlingBaebies” and “DarlingHeroes” because now that we know the Darlings aren’t evil, and knowing how selfless he always has been, I would just like to honor his selflessness with our fan name :-/

I’ve been sorta watching the voting, but haven’t participated because I didn’t really like any of the options that much, and I’m also just a lurker on tumblr, not an active poster. I remember back before the voting began, I saw a post where someone suggest Braeves, and I instantly loved that one. It fits his character so well, embraces all the sacrifice he’s made and how selfless he is, and how he’s still hanging in there all this time later, and especially now with his resolve to fight for Emma…I just think Braeves would be PERFECT.

(ETA that I sent in a message to LilRedSoupBowl suggesting Braeves be considered for the vote. Hope I did it right, I’m not used to sending messages and posting stuff on tumblr.)

Oh, my, that would be fabulous. Storywise if this was a book, that is how it would happen, but I’m just afraid ABC is so in love with Hook that it will be like pulling teeth to get anyone to be sympathetic to Nealfire’s plight. I never watched LOST but I do know from fandoms colliding and people in chat that nobody like the triangle on that show and this is becoming Lost 2.0. You’d think they’d have learned from the criticism of last time. But they don’t. Writers for some reason are in love with the drama that love triangles bring. Is it too much to hope that Jane Espenson would be a Swanfire shipper like she is for Rumbelle? I need a Swanfire episode that matches the epicness of “Skin Deep”.

Jo: YES.  I don’t mind a slow build up with lots of reversals, pauses and obstacles but it is the media spin/pressure that makes me think despite how often we hear Emma loves Neal, that it is clear the marketing people love Hook.

Yes, and that is what saddened me most and made me no longer see Hook as a real contender for Emma. Have I mentioned before I used to *gasp* like the idea of CS, but only for like two episodes? 2×9 was a turning point for me, and meeting Neal again in “Manhattan” is what converted me to SF forever more!

I agree 100% with what you wrote. Hook is *supposed* to be a pirate after all! It’s funny how much I was trying to give Hook the benefit of the doubt, to like him, and yet all I see now is his trickery! To quote Charming, Hook “isn’t here out of any sense of nobility!” As usual, he’s in it for himself, because he fancies Emma and wants to win! It’s about Hook, himself and Killian’s wishes, wants and desires. I can’t believe how much Hook dashed my expectations of him….I’d spent all of S3 actually liking him, hoping for him to respect Neal, his so-called son figure, but that was just undone in a mere 40 minutes of screen time. But hey, I think this is actually to the advantage of SF in the long run, so actually, I should be *glad* that Hook just blew it, right?

I’m still hopeful that Adam and Eddy would not make a man who condones innuendo bordering on sexual harassment and leaving her for dead to be Emma’s endgame! That would be the ultimate UN-happy ending in my opinion for Emma, since she’d have to lie in the bed she makes. Also, it would be tragic to see Neal go through the ringer AGAIN. I refuse to believe that Adam and Eddy would continue to make Neal a victim for the rest of his life. It’d be tragic to see Hook get the girl in that case, because I would see it as an example of the bad boy getting the girl and the good guy finishing last again. To me, that’s the opposite of a happy ending or a show about hope.

I don’t have a tumblr but I suggested FireChamps one day on anon  because Neal means champion, and it was shorter than one on the list LilRed had of Firechampions.  I like Braeves too but it doesn’t quite get his “Neal” ness.  Of course I was just an anon on her website so could not vote, so did not follow what other names came up.

Anyway I wonder if we tweet the ABC twitter whether the slogan versions of the  Neal or Henry posters would ever  be released from being held  hostage?  I seriously feel like it is “Believe it is too late” right now.   I do not get why they could not approve any taglines.
