ParticipantIt’s a slow warm up but it’s happening. They are so on the same page.
And Emma will realize what a heroic brother figure/family man Neal really is when she hears from Wendy what he did for the Darling children, even though he was only 14 himself. Emma is going to notice patterns of Neal’s behavior which demonstrate he’s actually a self-sacrificing, long-suffering man who puts others ahead of himself. She is going to realize her own views of him were really just misconceptions as she realizes Neal has a history of risking his own well-being and doing the brave thing:
- Being willing to fight in the Ogre War
- Trying to save Rumple from himself by going to A Land Without Magic
- Sacrificing himself for the Darling family
- Fighting not to become acclimated as a Lost Boy in NL
- Making a personal sacrifice for Emma to get home to SB to save her family
- Returning to face his demons with his father to save Emma in Manhattan
- Risking his life against Cora/Regina to save his father’s life
- Sacrificing himself by falling through the portal so that Henry wouldn’t have to grow up without Emma
Hook, by contrast, has a history of doing the selfish thing:
- seducing another man’s wife and then challenging a cripple to a duel
- leaving a little boy without a mother,
- general pirating,
- using Baelfire to learn how to kill his father,
- not fighting harder to keep Bae aboard his ship, b
- being an employee of Peter Pan,
- trying to repeatedly kill/wound Belle to get revenge on Rumple
- working for Regina in an effort to get revenge on Rumple
- working for Cora in an effort to get revenge on Rumple
- leaving Emma, Snow, Mulan and Aurora for dead to get revenge on Rumple
- erasing Belle’s memories to get revenge on Rumple
- nearly killing Neal’s dad to enact revenge on him for killing Milha
- nearly getting the town blown up, along with Emma and her family, which resulted in Henry getting kidnapped
- Helping to save Charming, Neal and Henry, but really just so that he can coerce kisses from Emma
- Making a play for the love of Neal’s life, despite Neal supposedly being a “good friend” and son-figure
While people can change their patterns, I’m hoping that Emma will figure out for herself which man has the better track record of putting others first and would lay down his life for Henry without question. Even if Hook is reforming from his swashbuckling ways, Neal is the true hero of our tale,

ParticipantWelcome, katsqueak!
Also his hugs!! I want one.
I wanna meet MRJ really bad, because seeing how great Neal hugs are, you just know that an MRJ hug is gonna be the best. My #1 celeb pretend boyfriend, he gives the best hugs in life, like, just remembering the hug can give you warm fuzzies. I think that’s what an MRJ hug would be like too.
Speaking of hugs, it reminds me of something I read on tumblr yesterday. *goes to try and find it again*…
i don’t mean to bash hook because i really do like him (save for his behavior in the last two episodes)
but i seriously cannot wait for the swanfire family reunion moment, when emma and neal are crying and hugging henry and hook is just kind of standing back looking defeated. because not only does he know they share something bigger than all this petty love triangle/angsty romance stuff, he’s seeing it play out before his eyes. and he’s realizing that no matter what emma chooses- whether it’s being with one of the guys, or neither of them- she and neal are always going to be family.
http://emma-and-bae.tumblr.com/post/66663186238/i-dont-mean-to-bash-hook-because-i-really-do-like
Once I was done grinning over how amazing that family reunion is gonna be, (especially because Henry is currently still thinking his father is dead, so imagine when he sees him alive, OMG my heart just wants to burst just thinking about it :D), I imagined that scene playing out with Hook standing on the outer.Regina’s gonna get a family reunion hug, Snow and Charming are gonna get family reunion hugs, and most importantly from the triangle perspective, Emma and Neal are gonna get family reunion hugs. Hook’s gonna stand by and watch that happen. And I wonder if seeing Neal being a part of the family he’s finally found will be his wakeup call that he’s acting like a jerk by insisting on trying to take away someone Neal loves all over again?
I really want to see some more of the lighter side of SF very soon.
I know it wasn’t really a “light” moment, but I loved how in 307 they were sitting side by side. It showed that Emma didn’t feel alienated or weird about their previous conversations. Despite all of that, she was still comfortable enough around him that she was happy to sit right next to him.

Not only were they sitting side by side but she even looked at him and said, “you and I are on shadow duty.” She is fine just *being* with him. No awkwardness, no hesitation. He’s still her Neal.

*Sniff* That was just so beautifully put. No matter how many years have passed, how many misconceptions Emma had, or how many painful memories, Neal will always be her Neal. He’s not about to move on from her and Henry. As far as Neal is concerned, from his perspective, his heart is spoken for by Emma. His heart belongs to her, even though he knows he can’t claim Emma as his own at present.
I have a feeling that even *if* Emma chose to date Hook, Neal would never really move on from Emma or the dream of their Tallahassee. Sure, he could learn to accept a co-parenting arrangement over Henry and be cordial to Emma and Hook, but secretly, he would always carry a torch for the mother of his child. While he might learn to accept the status quo and would maintain a healthy boundary so as not to make Emma uncomfortable, Neal himself would find it downright impossible to find another woman who captures his heart as Emma does. Neal knows now what a huge mistake Tamara was, and she was his excuse for not going after Emma, which turned out to be the biggest regret of his life. I think Neal would end up spending his days alone rather than try to find a second-place substitute for Emma.

MRJ once answered a Twitter Q saying that Neal has never/will never love anyone so much as he loves Emma. Tamara was his basically his “Forget” potion, like Snow took in the EF in S1.

YES, YES, YES, THANK YOU!!
I agree with all of the previous posts about Hook’s character so far in season 3. I had hoped that Hook was changing his attitude to TRULY being a man of honor, that he was once before, but this episode just reinforced what I’ve been thinking all along. Hook is still ultimately only in it for himself. All of his actions are because of Emma. As romantic as this sounds it can backfire (as evidence of what we saw with Rumple regressing back to his old habits when Belle was Lacey) since he is not doing good because he wants to change for himself and it’s the right thing to do, but rather to get into Emma’s good graces. I posted this on another website and got some backlash from some die-hard CS fans (as expected). I fear that Hook is going to be the “Regina” of season 3. He’s trying to be good but regressed back into being petty like he was before, as seen in “Dark Hallow” Does he not know the bro code????

ParticipantI like Emma and Neal’s easy familiarity. I guess living with someone in a tiny car will do that. As time goes by, and her heart heals, I think she won’t be able to resist the pull of her love of Neal.
I wonder if Henry has already named his operation for getting his parents back together. Watching The Evil Queen, I wondered how anyone could not root for that little family.

This is a factor into why I believe SF has to be endgame. I know, I know, there's always the argument that not every character has to end up with a partner, because a happy ending can be being alone and having your family. But let's be real here, it's a show about fairytales, so all of their main characters are gonna be partnered up as a means to their happy ending. And the way they're writing Neal, he only loves Emma, despite what he had with Tamara, he never loved her the same way he loved Emma, and now he's focused on being a better man and that's inspired by his love for Emma. He is all about Emma, which is why I find it amusing whenever people want to ship him with any other character with actual expectation that it could become canon. Like, how many times does he need to spell out how he feels about Emma before people get the hint that he's not gonna have eyes for anyone else?
The fact that they've written him with Emma tunnel vision, and that they've written his long life as being a tragic story of one loss of love after the other, and that, like I said, the main characters will all end up with a partner...the only endgame that makes sense IMO from a storytelling perspective is that his happy ending is to eventually end up with Emma.

Haha! Henry’s secret mission in the second part of S3 will be called “Operation Parent Trap”. Let’s not forget Henry’s dream would be for him, Emma and Neal to all get a castle to live in together in the EF. I suppose he’d spend every other weekend at Regina and Robin Hood’s neighboring castle and would then go fishing on Uncle Killian’s boat whenever he sailed into town. 😀
