ParticipantWelcome to the thread, annwyn! 🙂
I saw this on Tumblr and couldn’t agree more:
LOVE this. Even if it’s not a scene of them together, their meaningful, emotionally loaded connection is still there. Even if it was just a fleeting moment, just seeing them look at each other in that particular context. It’s gonna be such an angonising wait for that moment when they get back together, but if the build up is full of little moments like this that establish their connection, the wait is gonna be so worth it.
Neal’s not going to lead her away from it. He isn’t going to force her either, but he’s just going to stand and say he has her back.
KFC, your whole post was brilliant, I just had to single this bit out, because looking at the BTS pics for 309, I totally thought, “Emma, if my grandfather has my father in his evil Box here at Skull Rock, yeah, I’ve got your back.” 😉

And how exactly is one supposed to remain CALM when confronted with that smile? 😉 😆

ParticipantThat is so cute! I think there is a bit of that Ranisha, that Hook is the “fun” relationship, but that’s how Emma might see it, not Hook. I think he’s looking for more, and is thinking in that “fairytale” mindset now. Thing is, Emma probably doesn’t think that way and it might disturb her a little.
The writers are so tricky, because they use certain phrases knowing they’re loaded with meaning. Shortcuts to get the emotional impact out of the audience, like when they gave Hook “As you wish”, but then turn around and have him say “when a woman wants to talk….”. They do this with Neal too a bit–there’s things that make them seem very romantic and then things that make them seem like jerks. For Neal I think most of that was in S2 when he was with Tamara, but he had a juvenile moment after being goaded by Hook.Overall though, they’re keeping Neal in character with being noble but well, he can be clueless in the same sort of way that a person with a good heart can be. He doesn’t always think ill of others, so he’s not prepared when they punch him in the gut. He’s an optimist, and that is what let’s him keep going after all the sorrow and pain he’s had in his life, but it does mean sometimes he’s kind of naive, which leads to him being cocky about the dangers.
I like how that offsets Emma’s natural pessimism (but I think she’s a frustrated optimist really!) and we see Emma having more hope when he’s around. I hope the writers keep building this story between these two in a low-key way.

Participant^^^^We don’t…we gush and fangirl all over it, LOL 😆
Forgot to mention that I love that Tumblr pic too with Emma staring right at Neal as her father hugs her. Somehow I totally missed that in the actual episode! Really nice moment and I agree with you guys about hoping we get more of these moments between them. They just get each other like no one else on this show and that just keeps showing up over and over again. I’ll be very upset if those moments stop but I think they’re going to continue. Just a hunch. 🙂
BTW-Nashville tonight reminded me SO much of OUAT and not with the actual stories. It reminded me of the battle between ABC and TPTB at Once….putting out their story and telling it the way they want vs. selling a show to advertisers. On Nashville, there’s this annoying tool of an executive who’s giving the main character (Rayna) a hard time about her master list of CDs among other things because he’s under pressure to make money for the record label. He’s going through all these hoops of making her life miserable to get a hold of her old hits so he can release a greatest hits album (complete with TACKY artwork, LOL) to make extra money for the label. He knows what’s selling, what the public appears to want right now, and he wants to exploit that at the expense of Rayna releasing music on her own terms (her next album wasn’t finished yet). Sounds like the battle Adam & Eddie may be having with ABC right now over OUAT, doesn’t it? They have a story they want to tell but ABC sees a character they can use to sell their show to what they think is a majority of the fans and in effect, the advertisers. A&E get stuck in the middle because ABC owns their show and they know advertisers keep it on the air, but they still have stories they want to tell THEIR way. The battle comes when they start setting up things for the future (i.e. SwanFire IMO) but have to please the head honchos now so they can keep the show in the media spotlight and get more advertisers (i.e. CS, again IMO). I find the entire thing fascinating and I really hope A&E stick to their guns because I think the SF story overall will give people much more satisfaction than something that doesn’t seem built to last. BTW-Rayna stuck to her guns and her beliefs, fought back against the annoying exec guy, and ended up figuring out an alternative for making the label more money (and she also stopped him from releasing the tacky greatest hits album). Stick to your guns Adam & Eddie! 🙂

That’s why Tumblr is such a great tool; people find things we might miss.
There was a scene in 308 where Emma is getting ready to leave and the camera pans (ha) in between two people so that you see Hook watching Emma and Neal get ready to go and Hook almost looks like he wants to stop her and tag along but then thinks better of it. But the other thing there is that Emma doesn’t really give him much of a second thought. She doesn’t need to look at him or watch him or have any kind of heartfelt goodbye. Hook’s not her radar when she doesn’t require information.

I missed that too! So much goes by that are small moments, they can be easy to miss. This is a very subtle story for now, for sure.
