KeymasterThe writers haven’t shown us much of what Milah and Hook’s actual relationship was like, so that’s quite possible. Regina says she doesn’t know how to love very well, and it may be true with Hook too that after he lost his brother Liam, that he loved in a very possessive way. Perhaps it plays into why Milah said she never loved Rumple, when we know she did at one point. That always struck me as odd. The other thing was that as she dies, Hook doesn’t say he loves her. He never says it that we see actually, because Hook refuses to divulge her existence, then she risks her life for him, we assume he loved her deeply. He was angry she was “taken from him”. Was their relationship about what was best for both or just him? Regina would die for Henry, but she would kill competition for his love too, and did not always love him the way he needed. Devotion is on a fine line with obsession.
I do think Hook loved Milah, but I also think that his quest for revenge overshadowed his love for her. You have to wonder what Milah would have thought if she knew Hook had sent her only child off to live with the Lost Boys so that Hook could continue his quest for revenge.
Neal acknowledges that he does not own Emma, when he says Henry may be all that remains of their former relationship. He doesn’t say to Hook “I’ve got Emma now” but the reverse, telling Hook, that “She’s got me now” and that’s where Neal is. He’s given his love to Emma, his intention is to support her and he’s had his period of doubt and fear but he’s past that now.
Excellent point. He’s putting Emma as the acting agent. Contrast this to Hook’s “I will win your heart”

ParticipantMickstemp, yes! If these tweets end up being very misleading or contradicted, well we’ll sort of know that the writers did change gears on their story. There’s no reason for him to be so clear when he avoids spoilers normally, but he was. In part, I think it was because it wasn’t a “spoiler”–it was something some of us concluded by watching the show. Of course, people argued about it so we had no way to know as the show was not crystal clear. I hope this time if they touch on it, they do make it crystal clear that, well he didn’t set her up, and he didn’t call the cops.
It could be he knew about the jail plan or not, which I hope he didn’t, but if he did, then I hope it was for really, really good reason, like they needed to get her somewhere the Home Office could not touch or something like that.
I wonder if they’re likely to touch on it sooner in 309 or is it in second half?

ParticipantSo someone posted a still of this part of the scene, but seeing this in a gif made me realize, just how long Emma is staring at Neal.

I think she is starting to realize that he went through so much more than he ever let on, and that he is so much more heroic and good than she ever thought. He never tried to use his past as an excuse or to justify what he did. He doesn’t try to take credit for things, let alone things he didn’t really do. He apologizes for his mistakes. All the good things she ever saw in him are still there, but she now has reasons to second guess the bad things she imagined he must be like to have left her the way he did. Right now, all she can handle really is making sure they get Henry back, but she is seeing him in a new light, and she cannot stop looking!

I love the way you wrote this about her questioning all the bad things. It’s just what JMo said was happening, Emma has to relearn her own history.

YES!! And the fact that little moments like this are even in the show causes me to keep the faith that they’re sticking to the story they always wanted to tell, because Emma couldn’t be seeing him in this new light if she hadn’t seen him in the old light, both are necessary parts of the over all story they’re telling for these two. And if she loved the original version of him that she knew, and now she’s realising all these new things about him, how can that not have the affect of building on the love she previously had for him.

Bold part! It is just like Snowing and Rumbelle (I know…I hate parallels but…)
Snow had to see Charming as the spoiled privileged prince she could steal from before she saw him as the knight in shinning armor who came back for her.
Belle had to see Rumple as a beast who joked about skinning children before she could see under the mask of the Dark One and see what a good man he is.
Emma has to see Neal the man who broke her heart and left her before she can see the reasons behind it and how tortured he was and how manipulated.

ParticipantYep, there’s a reason why the theme is repeated in multiple love stories: because it makes for a great love story!
