ParticipantAww *hug* ! Annwyn!
I think we drive ourselves a bit crazy with spoilers (and remember to block them for those who don’t like them!), because you can imagine anything without context. Stories have a lot of flexibility, especially this one.
Still the writers have made Neal and Emma two peas in a pod. They are culturally from two different worlds now, both experiencing trying to survive in a world so different from their own. They both were abandoned at a young age. Both had foster parents. Both lived on the streets. Both wished on the Blue Star for family. Both would die for Henry, but neither would kill an innocent even an innocent in the employ of a not-so-innocent for him unless absolutely necessary, no other choice scenario. Both would put an innocent at some calculated risk for their son. Both like hot chocolate with cinnamon. Both try to stand up for others who are being bullied (Neal with Whale, Emma with Ashley). Both are generally liked by other people, as oppose to the kind of person who rubs people the wrong way because they say and do mean things to amuse themselves. They never lost complete hope despite all the pain. They are resourceful. They are resilient. They want to forgive, but they don’t trust blindly either. They don’t expect others to do things for them.

KeymasterA nice blanket reminder:

If you do not know HOW to use spoiler tags, please use this link to learn how to put in spoiler tags
In other news, I just got in from raking leaves for 4 hours and I can’t feel my legs.
So I’m sorta tired and I’ll say YAY Swanfire! Cookies!

I love Swanfire because, endgame or not, it’s poetic, as Adam said it himself =)
Those on fanforums are gonna hate me for the post I made but seriously, all this tiring thing about Neal vs Hook… it’s just that, tiring, it’s rottening every forums I go to, expect this one, actually. I am so tired to read things like “Hook is perfection. Neal is such an ….”
Sorry venting, I need to =)
But in the end, for all the things you mentioned, for all the obstacles that are thrown in one’s face, because love is also about pain and hurt, about forgiving, moving on. As I said, I loved that, I wish i had memorized the link, article about Aristophanes speech at The Symp, because that’s love. Sadly it hurts too. But it’s more powerful than the hurt, that’s what true love is about in my eyes.
As for CS, there is one thing I want to say. This show is about true love and really, one thing bothers me, appart from not seeing Hook as a truely romantic figure so far, giving his “smartass” quotes, but appart from that : It would be just too strange… unatrual and unreal to have Emma going into her happy ending with someone who could be her kid’ “grand daddy in law”. And I mean no offense, it just really screams more “messed up family” than true love to me. That’s why CSers unsettle me. Without wanting to be offensive.
Emma and Neal though, I love how… poetic that’s all and really, maybe I am the one with the blinkers but I really think Neal/Bae is a kind of Prince Charming.
My favorites characters in the show are Rumple, Emma, Neal, Regina because they are the most humans. Full of conflicts, oxymores and hurt too. Emma and Neal are the “light” side of the human spectrum, Rump and Regina the darkest one. But all of 4 have made mistakes, and in case of the “darkest” side, have been driven cold and cruel because of grief. And I can understand because we, silly little insignifant things are sometimes driven away by our emotions.
Anyway, I’ll see you at next episode guys, ty for the thread. And really I won’t regret my post on FF, because I am so tired about this crap about Neal vs Hook… Come on, seriously?

ParticipantMan I have read through everything and I think it just so beautiful what you all have said about Swanfire.
The truth is I didn’t think I would ship Swanfire but they just won me over with the dynamic of their relationship and story. Emma and Neal overall makes a really, really good, original, deep and humanistic story. That I can’t compare to anything other than a little Snowing, Rumbelle, and Jane Eyre. Their story is so unique though, its not cliché, its not shallow.
Its about love! And I just get love from Emma and Neal, love that would last a life time and beyond.Emma and Hook do have some similarities in nature, but Emma and Neal in my eyes are far more compatible, they have enough similarities and differences to make it work for the long haul.

ParticipantLauren, you’ve outdone yourself with that one! 😆 😉

*cough*SOULMATES*cough* Seriously though, all that stuff they have in common, the way their stories have been constructed so they have all these shared experiences and traits, there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve been written that way for a reason.
The truth is I didn’t think I would ship Swanfire but they just won me over with the dynamic of their relationship and story.
Same. I really enjoyed them in Tallahassee, but was worried that if Neal turned out to be Bae, it’d make me roll my eyes and I wouldn’t really be that interested in the ship in the long run. Now freaking look at me. 😆

ParticipantPeople say that Hook and Emma are alike and understand each other, but honestly, Neal and Emma’s story is so similar! They *get* each other.
Pretty!! Oh I love this GIF set so much. <3

ParticipantI love that gifset too! These two have so many parallel experiences that shape their characters.
Neal is in Bae clothes! I hope that helps the people who claim they cannot connect the two.
I was hoping we would see some of Bae’s transition into Neal. Oddly enough changing accents runs in the family. Scottish Mal turns into English sounding PP. Canadian-ish Bae turns into Urban American accent Neal.

ParticipantThe Malcolm/Pan accent difference doesn’t bug me much, because I didn’t think Malcolm sounded that Scottish. LittleRumple’s accent was definitely Scottish, but Malcolm’s not so much IMO. I can fanwank that Bae adapted his accent after arriving in our world, so he’d blend in and be harder to find, if he suspected Pan and/or Rumple might come looking for him.

KeymasterSooooooooooo
set photos. the actual heck? Neal in FTL clothing (and ROCKING it btw) and no Emma in sight but Hook chilling out in his red vest. Dream sequence, best bet but maybe it’s Emma’s dream to help her pick which man she ought to be with? And it leads to 314 when Emma chooses Neal?
