What Emma said to Hook was one of the most ludercrious statements on this show. Like you don’t know what Hook did! What if he did something that incredibly vile and repellent?! What if he tortured or mutilated or something else equally abhorrent?! Are you still okay with that?!?!?!

You’re right. It’s absolutely preposterous that Emma would be okay with Hook straight up lying to her face, because she doesn’t know what that lie is. Eddy said what Hook did to Ursula was worse than heartbreaking; it was “soul crushing.” Hook has so many skeletons in his closet that Emma doesn’t even know about. It’s as if Emma willfully turns a blind eye, because once she opens that door, it’s like opening up a Pandora’s box. Maybe Emma is oddly afraid of what she might find? Because then she would actually have to admit to herself, that no, she’s not dating a “reformed” bad-boy with a mark in the hero’s column. Hook probably fears her discovering that for herself, which is why he consistently withholds or omits the truth from her. He probably fears she’d reject him otherwise. Hook is Emma’s Mr. Wrong, because Mr. Right’s don’t lie, cheat, and steal to get their way with you. Maybe Emma doesn’t want to admit she fell for a cad. (Or as Jo said, maybe the physical attraction is just blinding Emma).

Haha, Slurpeez, I like your synonym “physical attraction” from what I originally said. Very clever. 😆

Phee, my first volunteer for a little bloodshed over Neal’s grave was Hook. 😉

If SeasonOneEmma ever met SeasonFourEmma, she’d kick her into kingdom come. Yes, she was jaded and had her “walls up” but she also didn’t suffer fools. Like has been said, she’s knowingly ignoring parts of his past. Yes, you’re past is your past, but it also shapes who you are today. The biggest element of a successful relationship is trust and if you don’t even want to know what your partner did in the past, even in generalities, you have very big problems. Look at Rumbelle. Why is CS getting a pass? And the saddest part of all, is I think they’re going to continue get a pass to the end of the series.

Hello all.  I’m kind of caught up!  Now that I’ve set aside any hope for a good story, I am able to enjoy the off-the-rails-train-wrecky-ness of this show for what it is, just like Dark Shadows but with slightly better camera work, lighting, costumes and acting.  Sometimes.

The truth is the writers really only care about shocking moments now, that twist where they say “The story you thought you knew isn’t what happened”–even if THEY are the ones who told us that story, even if they told it to us last episode!      I’d write more but ….that’s giving more thought to this show than it truly deserves.
MRJ is lucky to be free of it, because he’s the sort of actor that cares about his character and the story arc, the meaning of it –and these writers are not the type who value that sort of thing at all.  They’re all about the scenery chewing snark, the twist, the big dramatic stuff and what keeps shippers happy.

    Well take care all!

Glad you popped over. I still can’t enjoy anything b/c I’m bitter about the fact that we’re not getting a good story but I agree with the train wreck, scene chewing, BIG TWIST type of writing. It’s nothing subtle or simple. It’s all about the big OMGOSH moment.

That act majorly tarnished Emma for me, like, MAJORLY. But Rumple’s still the one who drank the thing to wipe his memory. It was possibly the most OOC thing they’ve made Rumple do, considering how at that point in time, all he cared about was having a life with his son again, yet he effectively sentenced him to death when he was in a position where he could have saved him instead.

I give Rumple a pass on this because he was super edgy about changing time anyway and Emma did hit him with the emotional blackmail of Bae died a hero “Don’t take that away from him”. With Rumple’s negative experiences of being a coward, the last thing he’d want to do is change time and cause his son to become a coward. Rumple was part of the established timeline so he couldn’t change any events otherwise he might not have even met Baelfire again. Emma could’ve done something though like leave a clue that wouldn’t have affected any events leading up to the dark curse but would make sense like a “beware Tamara” or something like that.

I cannot believe Emma let that one slide, because his lying to her about the small things ought to raise a red flag that he’s lying to her about the big things. Her “only wanting to see the best in other people” is going to come back to bite her, like her decision to let Ursula and Cruella into town. When Emma finds out her parents are lying to her, it’s probably going to make her question their ethos about seeing only the good in other people, while willfully ignoring the bad. Emma was a bit jaded before, because so many people let her down, and I think she’s going to see the darker aspects of a person’s character, including her own, and hopefully, of Hook. There is a lot she doesn’t know about him still, despite the fact that she opened up to him about her past.

I agree. Emma not bothering to find out the connection between Hook and Ursula is really dumb on her part. At the very least, she needs to know if whatever went down between Hook and Ursula has the potential to cause harm to Henry i.e. Ursula seeks revenge and goes after the most vulnerable person within Hook’s social circle which would be Henry.

Also it bugged me that Emma got so uppity about Hook lying about Ursula when he’d been lying about his connection to Nealfire from day one. Hook should’ve had a conversation with Emma about Milah in regards to the fact that Milah was the mother of Baelfire who Emma had a child with. It’s not just a talk about an ex, it’s about the connection and impact the relationship with said ex has on CS and Emma’s relationship with Baelfire.

Hook has so many skeletons in his closet that Emma doesn’t even know about.

That’s an interesting line of thinking that Emma doesn’t want to see the bad in Hook. She doesn’t want to see that she picked another bad relationship. CS have got to be heading for a fall because if they weren’t, why not have Hook be open and honest with Emma and have her be peachy with it? Why have him lying and hiding things? Perhaps Emma will end up hooking up with Will Scarlett by series end? ScarlettSwan

I just read the SnapChat review and laughed so hard. I’m glad I wasn’t drinking anything. I may not agree with everything she comments on but she is so hilarious and usually spot on in many cases. Her SnapChats are the highlight of the show being back.

Let us recall  that they have said Hook will be fighting for Emma’s heart. Now that could be interpreted many ways given what we know this season has in store for Emma but….What if Hook will actually be loosing Emma’s affection and will be trying to “win” it back? As in, she decides to leave him.
