Without Baelfire, without any links to Neverland, and without the Milah motivation which is the underlying cause of the antagonism with Rumple, Hook’s whole purpose on the show now is to be Emma’s love interest. That is his sole role. If he doesn’t have that, he is useless and superfluous to the story. Whatever the issue with Ursula is, it didn’t have to be Hook that wronged her, any other person could’ve probably filled that role (it’s not like where it had to be Hook picking Bae up in Neverland). The writers are trying to keep Hook relevant to the story but unfortunately for them, by taking out Baelfire, they also took out a lot of Hook’s potential storylines outside of Emma. Emma is now carrying Hook’s character because, without her, Hook is pointless.

Keeper of FelixI would actually have loved to have seen what would have happened if Emma would have told Rump about Zelena killing Bae in the future and he actually does stop her from doing it. Sure, there may have been negative consequences all around and Rump would have to eventually go back and convince himself to drink the memory potion and not do anything but I think that would have been a more interesting storyline to see where things could have gone.

I was reading some TV reviews about another show (not OUAT or anything associated with ABC or A and E) and this line stuck out to me quite a bit.
When an established show starts making choices that don’t feel right in the world they’ve created, that’s hard to watch as a viewer. It makes you question whether the storyteller knows where they are going with the story.

And I didn’t even have to look at the author of that article to know it was written by Matt M. He won’t admit it now but that guy LOVED Neal and was definitely rooting for SwanFire back in the day. It doesn’t surprise me at all that he listed Neal as the #1 character that should come back and he’s right with what he said about him too:

Combining this article with what RG just posted about from a completely separate article makes me ache because it’s SO clear to me that the two trolls have totally lost their way with how their show started off and where it is now. How can people not see that the heart of the show is gone now? I’m not even just talking about Nealfire here….the WHOLE HEART of the show was the characters and their overall relationships with everyone else. I haven’t been watching because I’d rather wash my hair, pluck my eyebrows, and run sceaming naked off a bridge that give them my viewership again, but it sounds like they’ve given up on that and the characters are all pod!people now. IT P*****S ME OFF SO BADLY THAT THEY DON’T SEE HOW MESSED UP THINGS ARE NOW. Fan pressure and/or network pressure is a pretty dangerous thing to pander to and I think they’re learning a hard lesson now about honking off a fanbase. How can anyone think this show is still heartwarming, family friendly, and well written when there are SO MANY other great shows out there that actually know their own show’s hisotry and HONOR IT??! 🙁
