That is what writers call a melodrama stock plot.

Sad but true. The lack of innovation makes me sad. This show was so innovative once upon a time (pun!)

Too many times our criticisms are dismissed as being disgruntled shippers, but that’s really not the case. I have watched other shows where two people got together I didn’t like or they broke up a couple I loved. There’s nothing novel about it. In reality, our grievances go much deeper. We all have our theories on why the show is losing ratings (and despite how much you want to spin we’re fine and winning the night we are losing people).

In a addition to what’s been listed previously I would add the segmented season as a black mark. Once is treating the two halves like two different seasons. Other shows have this split season, too, but are treating it as one season cut just cut into two viewing parts, not two separate arcs. These mini seasons aren’t allowing us to delve into and flesh out stories so it goes back to they rely on a formula as a road map to their writing.

Another thing to add to the list is lack of world building parameters. I’ve mentioned this often. If you set up rules to your world, then YOU MUST FOLLOW THEM. When showrunners tell us there is “no time travel” and “dead is dead” then turn around and change it on us, then they are ultimately lying to us. I don’t care what loopholes you make up…it’s lying. Why should I get invested and theorize about a story where there are no rules, continuity or growth.

See, all these criticisms and and not one of them are about shipping. *gasps*

Reading some of my very earliest posts here at the forums–something I do randomly sometimes when I’m feeling particularly sad over my anger with this show.

This was one of my very first posts, right after Skin Deep aired.

I think he wants his power right now but that is because he doesn’t know Belle is alive. I think if we look at the jail scene in Skin Deep, to me, it becomes clear that he’ll give up his power for Belle. If we take the myth of Rumple (the actual Grimm fairy tale) as canon, his name is his power. Guess his name and his power is gone. He tells Regina his name (gives up his power) for a symbolic representation of Belle (the cup): and we know that Belle means more to him than anything, he literally placed her on pedestal in FTL.

Im going to go cry now (did anyone here EVER predict I’d be anti-Rumbelle?)

I just finished listening to Other Side podcast and they touched on some things that I think are key to why this show has been failing as of late. And it has nothing to do with ships or Neal’s death.

    1) The formula. Everything about this show now is formulaic. Villain comes to SB–has connection to either Rumple/Regina and the Charmings–Villains has messed up backstory–Villain has some sort of magical object that will make her win–shenanigans–Villain defeated at 11th hour. Repeat

It’s exhausting. Why should I buy emotionally invested in any of these characters when I know how the story will end and when I know what comes after?

    2) The flashbacks: pointless, useless and becoming deadly dull.

    3) Not focusing on what matters: everyone seemed to like the montage in 412 because it had some of that S1 charm to it. But those moments of family and focusing on the characters “slice of life” is brief and all too rare

    1. Technically, everyone is related to Henry. In fairness, no familiar connection has been shown for any of the QoD.

    2. Case in point: the lack of Neverland flashbacks in 3A (especially “The New Neverland”).

    3. I feel like this is one of the big problems with the two-arcs-per-season format. It doesn’t give enough time to develop the story and show the people of Storybrooke.

Read what I said again. There is a connection to Regina or Rumple. That hasn’t changed at all. I never once mentioned Henry.

RG, I know you requested that I post my reaction to The Flash in here after I’d watched it, but it contains many expletives, so I sent you a twitlonger instead.

    Happy Wednesday

Saw this online from one ex Glee actress, the type of freedom that some casts have to come and be free to say what the think about their characters.

“We got to the point, second and third season of Glee where you’re like.. not disrespectfully, but, you know, if there was a director saying, “well I think your character is doing this right now”, you would really want to ask them “why?”, and make sure that they had reasons that kind of fit with this character that you’ve been building.”

Also, i really think Libs writers see Once , just to avoid doing the same mistakes than them, i will post not the tweet, bc has some words, but a transcript

A quick reminder that backstory is not “character development”. Characters DOING THINGS is character development.

Overly relied upon. If you’re showing the character fully, the RELEVANT effects if that backstory are evident in his actions.

There’s nothing wrong with backstory. Treating it as more defining than current activity/required is something I loathe.

The writer twiter: John Rogers @jonrog1

"I offended you with my opinion? Ha, you should hear the ones I keep to myself".

Because we need some fun news to read after all this OUAT crap, here’s an interview with cutie pie David Guintoli of Grimm and it sounds like these upcoming episodes are going to be AMAZING! 😀
