ParticipantSo to me, the reason to not pair Hook with Emma is not owing to his low status, but rather, his behavior and the attitude he chooses to adopt (selfish entitlement and disdain for the feelings of others).
If it makes you feel better about it, he followed it up with this…
“@killianssavior: @WilliamShatner if kate can marry william, killian can marry emma ;D” You just put Kate on par with Mr. Jones?

I feel like he wouldn’t find it objectionable if someone compared to Neal to Kate, because he’s good people, not a “thug”.

True enough. Kate is not exactly a pirate now is she? While Neal was a common thief, he wasn’t exactly a thug. Too bad we never saw how Neal managed to turn his life around so that he could afford an apartment in Manhattan. We can only presume that after he fled the law to Canada he got a new identity. However, he was still going by the name of Neal when Emma found him again, so it’s not entirely clear. If he returned to the United States under the name of Neal Cassidy, he’d probably have been picked up by the police and done his time for stealing he watches.

ParticipantOh Lily
Why in the NAME OF HECK* did Rumple have to wait for a woman with exactly the right temperament and talent… then slowly train and corrupt her… and then manipulate her into casting a curse to cross over to Earth to get to Baelfire… when he could’ve accomplished the exact same thing by befriending a mermaid? I beg of you, do not spend precious energy considering that question. You could be learning Latin root nouns in those precious, finite seconds instead.
From Screwball Ninja’s fix a plot hole head canon:
Rumple pissed off a mermaid, and in retaliation she swore that no mermaid would ever open a portal for him anywhere
So true. So very very true.
What’s most frustrating is that if the writers really want to wax lyrical about how much Hook has changed etc, why not take the opportunity to actually show how bad Hook used to be in order to emphasise how much he has changed? It seems like what they set up in season 2 and 3A has now been white washed because the writers haven’t got the balls to make Hook look bad. Prime example being Hook doing Pan’s “dirty work”. Whilst it would be totally within Pan’s character to send Hook on pointless errands just for the fun of it, fetching cakes is hardly “dirty work”. I was expecting something along the lines of murder and kidnapping. (Also, plot hole- Hook said he was looking for a way to kill Rumple but hadn’t Bae already told him about the dagger at this point? And straight on ’til morning implied Hook was still fairly new to Neverland as he wasn’t under Pan’s thumb yet)
I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m sadly starting to fall out of love with Once unfortunately. I’ll still watch it to series end because I’ve come this far so I’m not about to quit now, but I don’t love it like I used to. The writers seem determined to destroy RumBelle and dance on its grave for no other reason than trying to push CS and OQ to the forefront. The writing for Rumple has become lazy and two dimensional, the only reason I still root for Rumple as a character (and RumBelle as a ship) is because of Bobby’s tremendous acting, Bobby’s and Emilie’s amazing chemistry and the strength of the writing of Rumple in season 1 and 2. Even Belle is suffering but once again it’s EMilie’s acting and the previous writing of the character which are carrying the show. Every thing is now plot driven instead of character driven, there is not enough time in 11 episodes to explore any deep issues which are skimmed across at best. It’s been refreshing not to have OQ in every episode, if only the writers would take a step back from CS. I’m fed up of CS, I’m fed up Emma basically being told not to worry her pretty little head about any of Hook’s past misdeeds and Emma accepting it. Emma should know about Hook’s past even if only for the reason that it could come back to bite them in the present day. Hook made bad choices, Hook did bad things, why can’t the show actually show that instead of trying to present Hook as a poor misunderstood soul. The show has lost it’s heart, not just in terms of Neal but also with Henry and the family dynamic. What is Henry now other than a walking talking plot device?
Neal’s death was a terrible creative decision. If MRJ had decided to jump ship thus making the death unavoidable, then fair enough, but a) be honest about it ie the actor wanted to leave the shoe and pursue other things and it wouldn’t be true to the character of Baelfire for him to just up and leave his son, and b) if this was supposed to be a death that has a lasting impact on the story, at least have the characters emote how this loss has affected them for better or for worse. As it stands, the 3 people the death should’ve affected the most are carrying on as if it never happened. People deal with grief in different ways, not talking about it is something people actually do but at least show that the reason they’re not talking about it is because it is too painful for them to talk about. As it stands, Henry is unbothered, Rumple just decided to be evil one day, and Emma couldn’t care less because she’s too enamoured with Hook all of a sudden. Hook is really annoying me with his whole revenge against Rumple shtick. He’s over Milah, his original valid reason for revenge to the point that he’s practically “Milah who?” when it comes to mentioning her. Hook’s revenge is now based on the fact that he just doesn’t like Rumple getting one over on him, Hook wants to be top dog no matter what.

This for me is the saddest thing. Forget ships for a moment. What about the family unit? Rumple’s happy ending is basically shot to hell now. Henry’s never going to get to know his father. What the kind of crap “happy ending” is that supposed to be? Neal was trying to break the cycle of abandonment with Henry, who is now lacking a father figure (with the exception of Charming). Now Henry is stuck with Robin, who just set the example for Roland and Henry that adultery is a-okay so long as you just “follow your heart.” Henry is stuck with Hook, whom Henry declared he never liked and isn’t okay with dating his mom. Henry is a good judge of character. He remembers Hook teaching him to cheat at gambling and saying it’s not how you play, but making sure you win. What the crap kind of father figure is Hook for Henry???? *heads desk*
I just got SF feels from watching a youtube video about a baby bird being reunited with both its parents:
I have named the baby bird Henry. His parents are Neal and Emma.

ParticipantOne family dynamic that definitely wasn’t given the screentime or attention it deserved was that of Belle and Neal.
