ParticipantRumple is being forced to ensure a happy ending for the woman who killed his son and mind-raped him for a year. And we are supposed to be excited by her return. Once Upon A YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG
Emphatically, this!
Also, can someone explain to me why Zelena is back? In order to bring her back, the writers had to do some pretty impressive — and seemingly badly executed — retconning to the past few seasons. The continuity of the show now looks like something that’s been hacked apart with a dull steak knife and then put back together with duct tape, super glue, and a lot of faith. (And now ambulating around, making vague inarticulate growling noises, and I think it’s trying to eat my brains, too). And honestly, for the life of me, I can’t understand why. What is the purpose of this exercise? I mean, if you’re writing the show, it seems you’d have to weigh payoff to drawbacks when introducing something this disruptive to the canon. The payoff is either in character development, or in plot advancement. So let’s see what we’ve got so far:
1) Rumple ~ Zelena: Oh look, a plot repeat! Zelena psychologically and physically tortures Rumple. Again. Because of all the things I felt nostalgic about from OUAT’s previous seasons, this was what I really looked forward to revisiting. O_0
The only possible reason to do this that I can think of is that this is the writers’ idea of how to elicit if not some sympathy, then maybe some pity for Rumple. So the logic here is that by making a now evil character tortured by an even more evil character, the first character appears less evil? Except no, that’s not how it went. The result of this whole ordeal is that Rumple, apparently suffering from a bad case of Stockholm syndrome, is actually thinking he has an understanding with Zelena, and is now blackmailing Regina into betraying either Robin or Emma.
2) Robin ~ Zelena
Oh look! Another plot repeat! It’s Robin’s valiant battle against himself, where duty wins over feelings, except the nature of the duty in question is so clearly phony that we must wonder whether he is maybe a little daft? Despite being admittedly estranged from his wife to the point of not quite recognizing her, deeply uncomfortable with her (lack of) moral compass, and very clearly in love with another woman, Robin goes off and declares his undying love for this admitted stranger, and his dedication to keep the relationship going. Either Robin is lying, or Robin has split personality disorder.
3) Zelena ~ Regina
Oh look! (need I say it?). “Sister, I will spoil all your happy endings.” “No, I won’t let you!” “I will, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Nya nya nya, I win!” Meanwhile Rumple, who has apparently caught split personality disorder from Robin, instead of seeking revenge on the woman who has killed his son and tortured him now repeatedly, establishes some kind of alliance with her whereby he uses her as leverage against Regina. To turn Emma dark.
What am I missing? Is this about it? It feels like we are stuck in a postmodern remake of Groundhog Day, with the added bonus that the actors are now actually playing several characters at once, only some of which are known to the audience.
Sense. This episode makes none.

ParticipantSo I’m extremely confused why Robin in Wonderland didn’t recognize Will, nor Will him when Will was with Anna and stealing Mal’s mirror. It sounded like this meeting with Will was pre-Anna, since Will felt broken due to the loss of his sister, like he couldn’t be with someone romantically until he felt whole or something.
Will was one of the Merry Men in when he stole Mal’s looking glass.
Yes, but those scenes implied Will joined them temporarily and they had no idea who he was prior to that. So we had two “oh, hi nice to meet you” moments with these characters, & you can’t have two first time meetings. Unless you bring out the plot contrivance fairy, which I’m sure they will. Time change, memory potion or failing that “your interpretation” on twitter.
Sort of like Regina having Neal’s keys in the first place. There was a time I”d insist that offscreen Henry got the keys, and there were some heartfelt scenes that Regina and Henry had about Neal dying, and then when Robin was leaving with Henry saying “Hey take these..Neal would want Robin to be with his son, like he helped him get back to me.” but–no. They didn’t show it, so it didn’t happen.
Regina has everyone’s keys. We already knew that.

Regina has the keys of everyone in Storybrooke. Neal’s apartment is not in Storybrooke, therefore Regina should not have had his keys.

Zelena is back because the writers needed to fix OQ so Zelarian happened so that Robin could leave “Marian” for Regina without any backlash. They failed on all counts.
1. Regina still killed the original Marian in the original timeline. Zelena only switched places after CS had rescued Marian from Regina ordering her execution. Had the Marian Regina took not been the real Marian then this point wouldn’t have been as bad. This was the point they needed to fix in the OQ canon, and they fixed nothing!
2. Despite Rumple all but spelling it out for Robin that he should go back to Regina, Robin still made the decision to stick with Zelarian. Regina is second best again. This episode has absolutely destroyed Robin’s character in the worst way possible. Regina deserves better!

Does she? I mean…Regina is now taking Belle’s heart as a way to get leverage over Gold after he threatened Robin. That doesn’t sound like something a redeemed hero does (unless it’s with Belle’s blessing and full cooperation as a way to take down Gold). If you ask me, Robin and Regina deserve each other.

Ok…I really wasn’t going to say anything but I see I have to.
Zelarian was planned before Season 4, a week after Zelena’s death according to Adam. So…it had always been planned for Marian to end up being Zelena because Adam and Eddy love the character and Rebecca Mader.
1. I for one am conflicted with the whole Regina really killed Marian in the original timeline because it contradicts Robins “Marian’s death was MY fault.” But if she had killed her…Regina didn’t know Maid Marian was Robin Hood’s wife, in the words of Lana Parrilla:
2. Alright…How could Robin Hood get back into Storybrooke when Regina had already told him that once he left, there’d be no way to return. Despite Rumple telling Robin to go back, he had no way to do so! He was clinging onto something that was hurting him so much because he’d rather be with her, but he can’t go back…there was no way to get back to her, so he figured that he should follow her advice and let her go, and try his best to fall back in love with Marian.
So this episode did not destroy Robin’s Character, it only showed that sometimes having a Code comes with a terrible price that he had to pay. Regina can’t get better than Robin Hood, the ONLY MAN to see past the Evil Queen Moniker, who never even flinched looking at her or mistreated her, or threw her past into her face like every other character on this show has done. And not to mention he was ready to go to war with the Author on her behalf. OutlawQueen Are Soul Mates Forever!

Regina’s an Anti Hero…who does what needs to be done to protect her family. And he didn’t just threaten Robin, he’s trying to turn Emma dark, and as powerful as Emma is supposed to be, that would not be a good thing for anyone. And so it’s okay for Rumple to threaten Robin and Emma, but Regina can’t use Belle, Rumple’s only weakness, against him to stop it?
And what if Belle doesn’t consent to letting Regina use her heart as leverage…there would be nothing to stop Rumple! So if force is necessary, then so be it.

I Agree. Rump is planning to completely flip flop the forces of good and evil, Robin, Roland, and everyone they know are in potential danger. Regina has to do what she has to do. That does NOT meant that Regina would actually kill Belle if it came down to it, it just means she has something to threaten Rump with just as he threatening her. If you ask me, while it may not 100% “heroic” its something that would need to be done for the greater good. I prefer Regina doing this to sitting around doing nothing and letting Gold have the upper hand. Regina is an intelligent woman, a previous queen, she ain’t laying down without a fight.

Good point. Let me change that to Regina before she does the thing she’s about to do deserves better!
1. I for one am conflicted with the whole Regina really killed Marian in the original timeline because it contradicts Robins “Marian’s death was MY fault.” But if she had killed her…Regina didn’t know Maid Marian was Robin Hood’s wife, in the words of Lana Parrilla:
Before I get into my reasons for this, I just had a thought: Does Robin actually know Regina killed Marian originally? Zelarian was the one that came back so she wouldn’t know what went down between Marian and Regina. Emma isn’t going to tattle on Regina either so wouldn’t know unless Regina told him?
I think my issue with this particular point is that it isn’t acknowledged by either Regina or Robin what Regina did to Marian. It’s just been brushed under the rug by the writers. At least have Regina express remorse or regret for what she did and then have Robin forgive her rather than make it look like Robin is happily jumping into bed with his wife’s murderer/would-be murderer.
If that was the idea then they needed to have Robin express those feelings. Instead, execution-wise, it had Rumple all but say “choose Regina” then had Robin go “Zelarian, I choose you!”. I find it so frustrating how this particular Robin is portrayed. It’s not Sean’s fault, it’s the way Robin is written and comes across as indecisive and sometimes a downright idiot.
So this episode did not destroy Robin’s Character, it only showed that sometimes having a Code comes with a terrible price that he had to pay.
Robin’s code was laughable this episode and not in a good way. He only has a code when it suits him to have a code. He hides behind the “code” so he doesn’t have to make any big decisions by himself.
Regina can’t get better than Robin Hood, the ONLY MAN to see past the Evil Queen Moniker, who never even flinched looking at her or mistreated her, or threw her past into her face like every other character on this show has done.
Regina has done some terrible things in the past, other characters aren’t going to like her for it. Regina shouldn’t expect other characters to just forgive her because she wants them too.
I would’ve like to have seen Robin acknowledge that Regina WAS the evil queen even though she’s not that person anymore. They didn’t need to let the distrust last long, in fact saving Roland could’ve been the thing to make Robin see that Regina was more than just the evil queen but they needed that little mistrust to begin with. Robin just being A-Okay with Regina from the start is what makes OQ a little unbelievable in my opinion.

I hope Belle does consent because that won’t make it as bad. The issue is if Belle doesn’t consent. Belle is a person, not a pawn, and it’s the potential lack of disregard on Regina’s part towards Belle that’s the problem. The thing is, if Regina wants to show Rumple she means business, then she’s got to show Rumple she’s a very real danger to Belle. Obtaining Belle’s permission isn’t doing that.

KeymasterI don’t have time to really catch up and read what’s been said, but wow, that episode wasn’t just jump-the-shark bad, it was a full-on Sharknado of sharks jumping over us to change what has been written before.

Ok. That’s some impressively advanced planning. So why so many plot holes?

*sigh* I hear you. What I guess I’m feeling grumpy about is the way Zelena’s presence is so obviously for PLOT and for cheap thrills, that it fails to help develop the other characters beyond already preexisting dramas. It almost feels like recycled script, except on the same show, in other words, the TV equivalent of being given a piece of pre-chewed petrified gum, on the pretext that, clearly, you appeared to enjoy it the first time around.
