Those 310 promo pics made my day! šŸ˜€

Hook is complicated, but those complications do mean he’s not all sweetness nor all selfishness and spite. What happens is some fans overpraise his good moments with the low bar of expectations for a pirate, but he is not a gentleman just for not being a cad. He can still be a jerk who is only nice to those who have something he wants, even if he is genuinely nice or mostly nice to them. The test of his change is how does he treat people when Emma is not there to see ?

I’m disappointed in how they seem to have simplified him in recent eps, because I agree that he’s complicated. If they’d delved more into the CaptainFire relationship instead of, or even as well as the triangle stuff, Hook could have been shown on a deeper level. I’m curious to see how this situation is gonna be resolved, with the whatever agreement that Hook and Neal are apparently gonna come to in the near future. With any luck it’ll show some more depth to him.

I’m not sure if he is back paddling or not. I don’t see the writers trying to back paddle Hook because they are going for the hero redemption thing with him. I just think he is naturally acting upon his alpha male instincts with his buck rival Neal, who can alpha male in his own way, but they are also dealing with an alpha female who would but those two bucking wolves in their place especially when her pup is in danger.

Hook’s not used to having a rival for the alpha male status. His typical experience is that even women who are married will fall for him without him having to even try. So he’s a bit out of his depth right now, and as an added bonus, his competition is Nealfire of all people. Hook doesn’t really know how to do subtle, so he came on strong, and he’s not letting it go.

He actually reminds me a bit of one of the girls we just had here on our Aussie version of The Bachelor. Ali fell for Tim in ep 1, tried to kiss him the first night, (it was completely awkward), would stare daggers if anyone else got private time with him, she was practically bunny boiler material. She made it to the final 3, and at the end of her home date visit, she looked him right in the eye and said she was utterly in love with him. Then each girl got to send him a video message and hers was all, “I love you, I’ve loved you for ages, OMG I’M SO IN LOVE WITH YOU, WE HAVE A TOTALLY MAGICAL CONNECTION.” She didn’t make it through the next rose ceremony, because Tim was quite obviously not at that same level with how he felt about her and was all, “WHOA, BACK UP!” To me, Emma’s total NON-reaction to the latest “As you wish,” is her version of Tim not giving Ali that final rose.

But one thing is shown, Emma and Neal work really well together. I still stand that Neal has helped Emma feel more secure in her role as a leader and mother, pulling away from her feeling like a lost girl and orphan. It just seems like she is whole again. Perhaps Neal coming back from the impossible has helped her see there is hope and that she has her family and her person is now a part of it like she always wanted.

Agreed. I think the SF story has been developing in NL, even if it hasn’t been overtly shown. But if you pay attention to the undercurrent of emotions that’s running through the whole family, the development of SF is entwined with that.

The reference to Neal as Emma’s “person” reminds me of Meredith and Cristina in Grey’s Anatomy, which I haven’t actually watched properly in years, but I remember they have that, “you’re my person” thing, where no matter what crap is happening with either of them, they’ll always have their own unique and unbreakable bond and will be there for one another.

RG, I don’t think it is necessarily back sliding, for Hook to be sarcastic, but when he wants, we have seen him outright demean someone. So I feel he did not go that far in his remarks to Neal.

He didn’t understand the coconut in a shadow thing, and frankly, its not like Neal explained it (and who would have thought, Shadow-stretched to sail-size!). So I took it more as Hook being a bit peeved he had no clue of exactly how this was going to work and being asked to just fall in line, trust his ship and life to someone else. People used to being in charge like a Captain would find that a bit unnerving, and then there’s the question of why Neal didn’t tell him the details. Is it because Neal didn’t have time or did not want to trust him with the details? Whatever is true, Hook might still have thought he was not being trusted and felt annoyed about that too, even though that lack of trust, if that was what it was rather than time, were justified, especially after the lighter incident.

All the same, I do think Hook felt unhappy about Emma and Neal talking and working well. That doesn’t mean he’s all the way ready to bust out the pirate tricks and regress, but he’s human and he gets annoyed, jealous and snarky. He’s still helping the team and he did look genuinely happy about Henry being saved. Of course, maybe a Pan deal might look better now but I still think Hook sticks around so won’t sell them out so badly they would King George him.

    Agreed with all of that.

That is probably the single best comparison I’ve read yet about Hook! Yes, he is exactly like a contestant on “The Bachelor” in the sense that he comes across too strongly most of the time. Does he even have an off switch? He does when Emma rejects him. It makes me think of the women who are so “desperately in love” with the Bachelor and then turn into basket cases and cry “how could you do this to me?” and accuse the bachelor of personal betrayal for getting sent home. Yeah. Hook is the rejected bachelorette, only instead of crying about it, he nurses a personal vendetta or sulks like a petulant adolescent.

Remember how strongly Hook came onto Emma in 2×6 being overtly flirty to the extreme which sent up red-flags to Emma and made her leave him behind on the beanstalk. Remember Hook’s reaction? It was retaliation to the extreme, to leave Emma and her mom for dead in a magically-fortificed jail cell, to forever separate Emma from her son. He seems to have improved in S3 by helping Emma to impress her. Yet, in 3×7 when Emma puts him in his place by saying she’ll always choose Henry, what is his reaction? It’s to sulk! At least he didn’t try to get revenge on Emma this time. That shows some improvement I suppose, though his continuing to act stand-offish and his refusal to tell Emma later more about dreamshade was very immature, to say the least. Emma’s decision is proper and befitting of a concerned parent, which Neal completely resonates with as a concerned father, but Hook’s reaction is to act personally wounded. He sulks, he acts indignant, he shuts down communication with Emma, and he reverts to goading his so-called good friend, Neal, when all Neal did is try and help Emma save their son and help get everybody home. *Sigh*

Raise your hand if you want 310 now?!

Wow, perfect example. Emma barely had any reaction to ANYTHING Hook did in 309. She was all about Henry (and then Neal because she knows she can trust him with their son). As someone said in the favorite/least favorite thread for 309, “Hook is the only who won’t let the triangle die…”

I sorta like the idea of Emma and Nealfire having Castle Tallahassee be a home for orphans the Neverland! We already know they are great parents and know to handle orphans.

I doubt the Lost Boys are going to become season regulars. More than likely, they’ll go live at the nunnery and fade from the storyline after 3×11.

Oh without a doubt that’s what will happen.

Guess Emma and Neal will just have to have their own kids to fill up castle Tallahassee.

That works for me! SwanFire babies?! I am SO on board with that story. šŸ˜‰ Although I do think it would be quite a heartwarming story to see the two of them open some type of home for all the kids who don’t have parents so that those kids would know that at least two people in the world care about them. šŸ™‚

Slurpeez – I love your siggy picture so much but I get so distracted by it every time you post that it takes me like two minutes just to remember what I was going to write! I love that scene so much and I’ve all ready watched it on You Tube more times than I care to admit out loud, LOL šŸ˜†

Yup. I keep coming here and staring at Slurpeez’s siggy. šŸ™‚

I love that Snow and Charming in the scene too. Snow’s face is really happy as well. She knows what this will mean to her daughter; after all she’s the one who told Charming to put her in the wardrobe in the first place.
