ParticipantI don’t know as it all does not add up because on the one hand, we have Colin in interviews saying Hook is genuine and then on screen we see a lot of passive agressive behavior, snarky and sassy comments, and things that in context might be attempts to undermine Neal’s self-confidence. Those who love Hook, and want to defend him at all costs will say no, from Hook’s POV he is just trying to make the best of a bad situation, caught between wanting to be fair to Neal but really irretrievably heartbroken and in love with Emma. It just doesn’t come off that way to me, because we have had so few CaptainFire moments that were NOT about Emma.
I think you may just get your wish for some scenes between Hook and Neal that don’t revolve around Emma. The promo images for 3×11 indicate that Hook, Neal, Tinkerbell and Charming go to the church where Blue Fairy’s viewing is being held. It looks like they are all there without Emma in toe, suggesting that Emma is elsewhere with Regina and Snow. So, hopefully, we’ll get to see some interesting exchanges between Neal, Hook and Tink and learn some more about their history together in Neverland! I would love to get some of the details flushed out through even a few moments of exposition, even if we can’t see their past together in a flashback of Neverland. Another interesting thing I noticed about the promo photos for 3×11 is that Tinkerbell is glowing, like she’s getting her wings back, and Hook is looking up with a huge smile on his face, possibly because he’s believing in her.

ParticipantHere is a lovely GIF set from Tumblr for all of your SF fans to enjoy. I love how much Emma’s parents are rooting for her to find her happy ending with Neal because Emma owes it to herself.

And here’s yet another lovely GIF set! I love how much Snowing recognize the love Emma has for Neal is like the love they have – true love.

KeymasterSo. Much. Awesome.
Ok lovely GIFs
Schmakcy’s post made me so happy.
I agree about the horrible writing of CF. I’m really upset about it. And actually, I think the CSers would agree with us. I think they want to see where those two stand WITHOUT Emma as well.

KeymasterWho says Hook has to end up with anybody? As much as I was really beginning to like the idea Tinkerbell and Hook finding a love connection, because it’s pretty clear in my mind they share a romantic past, I now wonder if Hook even deserves the love of a good woman
It’s very possible that Hook’s true love is the sea. I know that sounds corny but think Captain Jack Sparrow. The Black Pearl was his true lady.
The way their scene went down, it felt more like Hook manipulating Neal than not. We see Hook staring at Emma, she turns and does not even notice him. It is not that she is avoiding him–they show her eye movements as sort of sweeping past in a general way. Then Hook turns around for more drinks. Then Neal swoops in with almost genuine friendless towards Hook–are they all just so elated to be home and safe? DId they have a conversation on the boat, that was a deleted scene with the robe?
Perfect reading of the scene IMO. They’re home. She has no need for his information anymore.
But if I’m going to perfectly honest I am super worried about 311. The looks between CS in the promo do not give me the warm fuzzies for SF. I think Emma is going to openly admit that she has feelings for Hook and must explore them. I know we knew this had to come but I’m still worried. I’m a worrier.

ParticipantYes, but if it must happen, when better than right as a new curse is unleashed –especially if that new curse gives Emma an alter-ego who is not in her right mind?

Keymasterif 312 is some sort of odd AU then it MUST mean that Hook is NOT her TL in the real reality. Because it means that only certain events had to happen in order for CS to occur and they didn’t and therefore the Emma that loves Hook isn’t real and therefore CS isn’t real. FATE. It’s about FATE. Which events are destined to happen.

ParticipantI think cursed persona and alternative universe could be where 3×12 is headed. Also, keep in mind what Adam tweeted that 3×12 is not what we think. Well, what does it look like? From the spoiler images, on the one hand it looks like Emma and Hook are acting like a couple. Yet, nothing is quite as it ought to be, since Neal ought to be the one in NYC, since that is where his apartment is. Also, we saw spoiler images of Neal, Belle, Hook and the gang in EF with Aurora and Philip. So nothing is quite as it seems, and it’d be good to bear in mind that Adam said we’ll NEVER guess what is really going on. So, keep the faith, and don’t forget to enjoy the good moments, as Charming encouraged Emma to do. And we all know that having lunch with Neal constitutes a good moment for Emma in the minds of her parents, Snow and Charming, who have had to look for the good admist all the bad moments life has thrown them.

ParticipantAlso here is a lovely GIF set that shows parallels between Emma’s response to Henry and to Neal coming back into her life:
Neal and Henry are the only ones Emma has ever said she loves. She hasn’t even said that to her parents. Think about what that means. Emma, who embodies true love, really loves her son and Neal. There is no competing with true love.

ParticipantEmma didn’t meet up with Neal initially for lunch not just because she’s scared to try again with him and trust him (I think she really is beginning to trust him again btw) but because she’s scared he’s going to be ripped from her again. And she doesn’t know if she could go through losing him for a third time.
Yes! Think I said something similar in the little ship debate I was engaged in in the chat last night. Right now she’s in the mindset that she can’t get the happily ever after, so trying for it is just gonna hurt, because it’s inevitable that it’s not gonna work out.
And if you think about it like that, it’s not completely dissimilar to why Neal didn’t immediately go to SB after getting the postcard. He didn’t believe there was a chance, so he didn’t think it was worth trying, because it’d only cause them more pain.
In trying to push the CS side of the triangle, Hook as a character himself is totally getting lost. Not only that but they’re passing up opportunity to flesh out relationships he could have like with Neal and Tink. Neal and Emma both have plenty of storyline potential outside of their romantic relationship but at the moment CS is the only thing making Hook relevant, when is the last time Hook had a conversation or interaction not related to Emma and I mean that seriously.
Urgh, it’s so seriously disappointing, and I really hope they give Colin some better, more diverse material to work with in the very near future, because it’s kinda sad what his character has been reduced to. He’s freaking Captain Hook, there should be plenty of non-Emma-related storyline they can come up with for him.
And here’s yet another lovely GIF set! I love how much Snowing recognize the love Emma has for Neal is like the love they have – true love.
People like to say that Snowing are trying to force Neal onto Emma because first love is true love, and so there’s no question about it, they belong together, but I think that’s a simplistic interpretation. Yes, they’re advising her to try things with him again, and yes they can sense the love still there, and they’ve had Emma flat out tell them that she never stopped loving the guy. But I think they’re also coming at a place of speaking from experience, because they might be the same age as Emma, but they’ve been through some crap and come out the other side having learned some life lessons, which they’re now trying to pass onto their daughter. We saw that pretty blatantly in the most recent ep, where Snow coming to realisation about embracing the happy moments instead of dwelling on all the bad that can go wrong. Their own relationship has been tested, and has endured, so they believe in Emma’s relationship with Neal passing the test as well. It’s not just some fairytale love mentality, it’s because they’ve lived and learned, and are now trying to teach those things to their daughter, because that’s what parents do.
