ParticipantThe way Emma smiled at Neal when he tried to “make things easier” on her…she still thinks he’s adorable. And I think the real reason she stood him up was because she was worried about Henry and trying to work through THAT issue…otherwise she would eventually have gone on her own.

KeymasterPeople like to say that Snowing are trying to force Neal onto Emma because first love is true love, and so there’s no question about it, they belong together, but I think that’s a simplistic interpretation. Yes, they’re advising her to try things with him again, and yes they can sense the love still there, and they’ve had Emma flat out tell them that she never stopped loving the guy. But I think they’re also coming at a place of speaking from experience, because they might be the same age as Emma, but they’ve been through some crap and come out the other side having learned some life lessons, which they’re now trying to pass onto their daughter. We saw that pretty blatantly in the most recent ep, where Snow coming to realisation about embracing the happy moments instead of dwelling on all the bad that can go wrong. Their own relationship has been tested, and has endured, so they believe in Emma’s relationship with Neal passing the test as well. It’s not just some fairytale love mentality, it’s because they’ve lived and learned, and are now trying to teach those things to their daughter, because that’s what parents do.
I think Charming proved with his Hook joke that he’s not trying to keep Emma away from anyone. He just wants her to have moments. If it’s with Hook, ok. If it’s with Neal, ok. He just wants her happy.

I’d like to think so too.

ParticipantI need company! I was just in a chatroom in which I was the only one defending Neal over Hook…everyone was respectful but it was a bit exhausting!

Come to the haven. Have a cookie and some hot cocoa with cinnamon. 🙂 I know it’s rough out there. I often feel VERY badly about the fact that our chat here is dominated by SFers and the CSers have to listen to some of the stuff we say. God, I want this horrible triangle to be over.
I love Neal. Have I said that today?

ParticipantI agree with that Phee, and RG. Snow and David are not trying to push Emma toward Neal because of any dislike or misunderstanding of Hook’s nature. They were willing to praise Regina so we can see Charmings are “credit where it is due” kind of good people (despite all the people so ready to lambast them all the time!). They just happen to think Emma herself is still in love with Neal, but too afraid to let her guard down and be happy. Maybe they are really fairy-tale clueless about what would really make Emma happy or maybe they’re reading her better than she’s reading herself right now. I tend to think the latter because the show took the time to create sympathy for Neal by showing him alone in the booth. We didn’t just cut to Hook’s reactions about the “date”. This was not a scene that played out to drive how Hook feels about Emma, and his jealousy. Nor was the one with Tink that way, or we would have just scene Tink and Hook standing together with him saying “perhaps” with nothing really having happened. Instead we saw Hook seriously proposition Tink. Tink is being friendly and sympathetic with Hook and turn to leave, and he puts his Hook on her shoulder to draw her back. The whole thing really had the Season 2 Hook vibe to it, as if the minute Emma’s back is turned his normal pirate self pops right back out.
About that promo, Emma looks emotional but not especially happy. So who knows, the way they’ve spoiled anything and all things CS this season I wonder if it was so fast because that’s all they had to work with for the promo before it is obvious Emma’s expression is not melting and declaring that she has feelings for Hook. .

God, I want this horrible triangle to be over. I love Neal. Have I said that today? I don’t like the triangle either! It’s so nice to be among people who are in agreement with me…I start to feel dumb because I don’t entirely disagree with the point of the opposing side, but want so much for Neal to end up with Emma that I get defensive! One woman I was talking to said she didn’t understand at all what people see in Neal and Emma.

Same. People attack Neal and I just get a little rage-y. He’s my second favorite character and I hate the constant hate he gets (granted Hook gets a lot too) but some of it is just down right rude!
*sigh* I hold out hope that this will be resolved by the midway point of 3.2

ParticipantI love both of them, though obviously I favor Swanfire over other options. Hook’s an amazing character, handsome and funny and enjoyable to watch when he’s being good or evil–and played by a talented, adorable actor to boot. But loving one character doesn’t mean you have to hate his rival–and OMG I love Neal so, so much. I love him as Bae, I love him as Neal, I love when he embraces Rumple, I love how he smiles at Belle and hugs Henry and especially, especially how he grins at Emma.
And when these two kiss again it’s going to be better than a Snowing kiss and almost as good as a Rumbelle kiss.
