ParticipantWith regards to Jane and showrunning/who’s dictating behind the scenes, she once said (back in 2014)
A showrunner has to have a bit of dictator in them and has to be able to say, “Yeah, I know you don’t think you quite have enough work with it. I know you’re not happy. Deal with it.” You have to be willing to piss people off, willing to make the unpopular decision. I think it’s a job that requires a lot of toughness. I think it requires a willingness to offend because you’ve got to see the people that are standing between you and your vision.
X I suspect A and E don’t have the backbone Jane is describing. They caved to popularity, fandom demand (or what is perceived as fandom demand) and what ABC thought was best. Sold their vision and story for shiny, in other words.
I definitely agree with this. I don’t think A and E have any business being show runners. They just don’t have the backbone to hold the line for their stories. They should never have given in to any pressure to change the story by getting rid of Neal and keeping on Hook. I don’t think i have ever seen a show just completely ruin their show in such a way. Certainly other shows have made similar decisions by introducing another love interest, but Neal was so much more then Emma’s love interest. His story was the poetry of the show, it was the grand arc. He was the point of connection for Rumpel. He melded the family together. He offered so much more depth. There are things that you can’t do as a writer and just pulling out the very fabric of your long term story is one of those things. I am not sure that A and E even realize that they ruined their own show either.

ParticipantI’ve always wondered what the repercussions of not complying with the network would mean? I mean, would they cancel the show or would they fire A&E and replace them or….? I mean if there are no serious consequences, I dont see why A&E would stand u and tell the story they want to tell.
Networks have fired creators/showrunners and replaced them with someone who will give the network what it wants. Usually this is better ratings or a more coherent story. Look at “Revenge” on ABC. The show runner was dismissed after 2 because of a really mind boggling storyline and a low ratings. A new person was brought in to “fix” the show. It lasted two more years but the damage was done and it was cancelled. The show runner for Sleepy Hollow “stepped down” (kind way of saying fired) at the end of S2 and the show was given to a new guy who was tasked with giving the show a new direction. So the answer to your question is that, yes, show runners can be fired from their own project by a network if the network think it has a better shot at more money (better key eyeballs = better ratings = more ad money) with someone else who will follow the network’s vision.
Another good example is Gilmore Girls, but that is going to be fixed in 2016.

ParticipantI know that most people seem to think that Jennifer likes Captain Swan, but i don’t think she does. I think she makes fun of it in the same way she used to make fun of Swan Queen. She laughs at it because she thinks it is silly. I do think there is this weird thing though when they are in those large group comic con things, the audience is screaming and squealing when people hug and such nonsense. Then when the actors are in the small table interviews with the reporters and bloggers it is just completely different. It is like when they are in the big comic cons, they are nervous and being silly because the crowd is too, but in the table interviews they are having a serious conversation with like six adults, so they give more serious responses. So it is different. I know most people disagree, but i just don’t think Jennifer likes Captain Swan even a little bit. I think that is one of the reason she is like the show is over at six seasons (because she is out). The thing is she will never say that she hates things about the show just like she doesn’t make fun of the show House in public even though she is very obviously annoyed with whatever went down with that show. It isn’t appropriate for her to make fun of the show in public as much as she might want to.
I have never seen JMo look at Colin in character, like she looked at MRJ in character.

Sure she smiled….but she never beamed.

KeymasterI spilled coffee all over my laptop this morning and needless to say, it’s dead. I’ll be absent (or at least not a frequent visitor) for a few days. See everyone soon.

And Hook knows this. We saw in season 4 how he looked at the picture of her and Neal and was jealous. He was brooding, like, trying to figure out how to make her feel this way about HIM. this, more than anything convinces me that A and E are just stringing us along and making us believe that cs is anything and that Neal will really not come back, just to surprise us in the end.

ParticipantHad a really weird dream last night where Loki stole the avengers’ chocolate biscuits despite Thor warning him what would happen if he got caught, then he’s sat down eating them with Zelena whilst Zelena is trying to make moves on him because they both like the colour green.
Anyway, I think the show has come too far with it’s “CS is true love” mindset to suddenly change it to not being the case at the end and pretend that was the plan all along. They could’ve played it as “even “strong” women can find themselves in an unhealthy relationship” but they would’ve needed to make that point more clear through other characters reactions to the relationships. However, Snow is practically pushing Emma up the aisle with Hook so that’s not going to happen.

Not to mention that they made to much characters OOC, are erasing to neal character of the show unless is to say he is dead or to make Cs scenes, and they are pushing fans aside, to say, Surprise was all planed, even the fact that MRJ has a new show on some other network, which makes this veru dificult, the thing is since S3 they had the chance to bring neal several times, but they used that to state several times Dead is dead and Neal is not coming back and i suspect that 5b will say that again, they will say that Neal moved on, and is in peace and dead is dead, is impossible to bring him back even as young Bae.

ParticipantSo it definitely looks like there is some reference to Neal in the upcoming episode. So maybe there is something to the Neal’s warning song title. Still, i just want him as a character back on the show and we know that can’t happen. Though i am glad that MRJ is doing other stuff. I just keep feeling like it is just going to be a horrible scene where he tells Emma to move on and that he is at peace and i just don’t want to see that sort of nonsense.
