KeymasterThe thread came out of hibernation.
How’s everyone? It’s quiet, I know. Since this is really the only “vacation” I get from OUAT, I tend to savor the quiet first month following a finale.
Anyway, here’s a link to an article I read recently that got me thinking about fan culture and entitlement. Thought some of you might enjoy:

KeymasterGoing along with the above link…Kiki did a nice job of explaining A and E, privilege, and writing. This one is WELL worth the read, guys.

ParticipantInteresting articles. The thing with CS though is that it could work but the way it has been set up and the way it is currently being written is horrible.
They’d be better off splitting CS apart then rebuilding it in a more healthy way eg get Emma back her old self, give Hook time to earn his redemption etc.

I dunno….I have a hard time seeing CS work under any circumstances. Part of Emma going back to her old self means adopting the Seeker of Justice trope that goes so well with the Hero/Savior one. The problem is that she’d have to seek justice for Hook’s many victims, but somehow be able to look past them/forgive them.

ParticipantBoy it’s a wild party in Adam’s timeline….everybody has something to say! OQ, CS, SQ, even Rumbelle and Snowing are coming out to play now….Season 6 will not be a pretty time in this fandom.

I’ve been popping in over there every now and then to keep an eye on it, to see if Adam is saying anything worth reading (he’s not)*. But yeah’….crap storm palooza.
*= I take that partially back. He did admit that casting a Latina Baby!Lily was the wrong move when they didn’t plan on casting a Latina Adult!Lily.

ParticipantI decided to take a stab at writing an alternate ending to the Camelot arc (which I never actually started writing down until well into the Hades arc, welp), which essentially kicks off right before the final scene of “Broken Heart.” In other words, in my version of “Swan Song,” Hook never summons the previous Dark Ones. While I haven’t published it yet, have a summary and script tease, because I insist on giving you one (yeah, it’s in screenplay format).
DARK ONES DUEL TO THE DEATH! When Hook and Nimue plot to devastate the world, Emma must stop them. But the only possible way to do so is by killing him with Excalibur, reuniting the Darkness into one body. Meanwhile, Arthur plans to take over Storybrooke using an undead soldier — the legendary Black Knight. But, Guinevere and Lancelot secretly launch a revolution against him, rallying many of the people of Camelot to their cause.
The whole idea is that it will serve as a launching point for something else. Which reminds me, I am so behind on Burning Bright and Zoe19Blink’s 5B alt-fics.
Here is the link to my version of “Swan Song.”

ParticipantThat article is true. When the show began, i tried to give the writers the benefit of the doubt, but it has become clear that they have no clue how problematic their story telling has become. They, for some reason, are just completely unaware of what is an abusive relationship, either that, or they honestly think that what they are writing is something that women want to see, when it is not.
Adam behaves horribly on twitter, but part of me does feel just a very tiny bit sorry for him, in that, i think he actually knows that the show is bad. Eddie is completely unaware, and thinks he is god’s gift to writing, but Adam knows and just doesn’t know what to say. Adam is still a troll though. He lies about stuff, saying they are going to do it and/or saying just keep watching, wait and see, when they have no plan to do anything good or healthy with certain plot lines or relationships. I still think he knows that they made a monumental mistake when they killed off Bae and that now the show is just pretty much a cartoon.
Actually, that is a disservice to cartoons. There are better cartoons then this show.

Case in point, Steven Universe.

KeymasterPart of me feels bad for Adam (he gets an unreal amount of stuff tweeted at him–both relevant critiques, angry fans, and even threats) but part of me doesn’t. If he’s going to be that active on Twitter (responding to everyone and everything) then he needs to learn to manage it better. He needs to learn when to and when not to engage. He also has some incredibly strange mechanisms that make place blame on everyone BUT him and Eddy.
For example, he responded to some RubySlippers fans asking why Red and Dorothy weren’t in more episodes and his response was, “We wanted them but Meghan had conflicts.” It makes it seem like it’s Meghan’s fault when really the writers should have planned their story a bit better. But even this is a more minor case.
The really weird ones are when Adam is caught in a lie and he suddenly starts parsing what certain words mean. He was accused of lying in a Hot Seat in s5A when he and Eddy promised that we would be seeing Robin’s “dark past” in S5B and that Robin would have a centric. When this interview was sent to Adam post Robin’s death, Adam attempted to redefine what lying means and how what he and Eddy said wasn’t technically lying, so he didn’t need to apologize. I can understand that it’s not *technically* lying but it wouldn’t harm Adam to say “yeah, we spoke without planning the full season ahead of time and we decided to go a much different route. We’re sorry that we made promises that we couldn’t keep in the end.”
But this goes back to what Kiki said in the tumblr link I linked past page: they are incapable of seeing their errors or even believing that they are capable of being wrong. Their best policy, then, is to double down on the lingo they’ve come up with as a way to rationalize.
