Actually, Phee, I just looked at the Wikipedia Entry for Brothers Grimm fairytale “The Golden Bird” and I noticed a link on the page to the very similar, almost identical, Russian fairytale “Tsarevitch Ivan, the Fire Bird, and the Gray Wolf”!
The entry also cites:

A similar variant fairy tale of French-Canadian origin is “The Golden Phoenix” collected by Marius Barbeau, and retold by Michael Hornyansky. It follows the hero Petit Jean, the youngest son of the King, who discovers the thief of his father’s golden apple to be a golden Phoenix, a legendary bird. “

I just had a thought about Neal and Emma and why it would make sense for her to be with him again. I’m on my phone so hopefully this all makes sense.

Lot of people against Emma getting back with him say how they can’t understand it because he abandoned her and set her up for jail. Let me say that I totally get this point. I was like that as well. It kept me from full on shipping them. But lets not forget about Tallahassee. Not the dream, but the city.

Emma moved there for two years. I think it’s safe to assume she did so because she was waiting/looking for him. After she was in jail that is. Meaning she had faith that there was more to everything that went down than she was told by the cop (that he set her up).

She knew what she felt for Neal was real. She still believed that what they had was real. She kept faith in him. But, two years is a long time for anyone and without hearing from him, she stopped believing. But, she actually ended up being wrong in not believing anymore.

When they reunited and he told her why he did leave, that faith started coming back. She was still hurt. Of course she would be. Knowing the truth doesn’t erase the 11 years of thinking he ditched her. Just like knowing the truth doesn’t erase the 28 years she felt of being abandoned by her parents. But to be cliche, “the truth will set you free.”

Then she finds out (unfortunately off screen) that he left her the 20K. He never played her. He never ditched her for watches and money.

She believed in him way back when and she was believing in him again. Then their talk on the beach let out how Neal really felt about it. He didn’t want to leave, he wanted to go to jail for her, he regretted leaving every single day.

So I think at that point, she realizes she was originally right about him. That what they had was real and it never stopped being real for either of them. And that is why she can and is totally honest with him over that portal. She needs him and she loves him.

And that is why I am convinced that if he hadn’t fallen through they would have not necessarily gotten back together right away but definitely on the path to it. They still would have issues to work out but they would both be in the place to slowly rebuild what they had and build beyond it.

Love those remarks about Emma’s faith and she’s so right. Emma wouldn’t have gone to Tallahassee and stayed for so long if she didn’t believe in him and believe in what they shared together. It’s all there inside her to just let go and be with him again but the hurts are overwhelming her right now (just like they did Neal when he was scared to go find her because he didn’t want to be rejected by her) and she’s scared of what could happen. She’s afraid to hope for a happy ending for them because they’ve missed out on that twice now (I count prior to the portal as a possible happy ending because Neal finally saw Tamara as the twit she was and Emma finally learned that Neal regretted leaving her every single day) and she can’t handle even the thought of losing him again. Fear is an overwhelming emotion and she’s gonna have to get past that in order to really grasp onto her happy ending. Emma is such a strong person that I firmly believe she’s going to somehow work through things and eventually see that she and Neal can actually be happy together even if the world around them goes to crap in a hand basket (which is probably will since this is OUAT and they love to stir up crap, LOL).   /end rambling

I’m SO anxious for the episode this weekend. I’ll miss the first few minutes since I have youth group (weather permitting) but I’ll be on here later in the evening once I get caught up to chat, hopefully gush, and of course lament about the long hiatus with you guys!

BTW-Totally random but a figure skater that I’m friends with in real life wished me a happy birthday on Twitter today and also posted she hoped it was ‘magical and that all my #SwanFire dreams come true”. 😀 She’s a fellow Oncer and considering she posted something about CS a few weeks ago, I thought that was amazingly sweet and surprising of her to put that SF reference in her tweet! Wonder if I can change her mind about things when I see her in Boston next month for US Nats….hmmmm. 😉 *plots and plans* 😉

Just catching up on all the wonderful discussion but yay for Neal’s official poster being released. It’s long overdue! Interesting to speculate whether the timing means something but regardless I’m happy to finally get it.
