ParticipantThis weekend is ouat nj con time and yesterday there was a Cs panel and someone asked what would have happened if neal has lived
Jen’s reply is as evasive as it is telling. “He was obviously a very special character to Emma” sounds like the biggest understatement in the show’s history. She clearly can’t say what path the show would have taken if Neal had lived to a room full of CS fans because the truth is that CS never would have continued if Neal had still been in the picture.

She told some SQ fans during a meet and greet that she’s given a “script” of what she can and cannot say at cons, ect.

There probably is a “script” about what to say at these cons, but why does Jen have to abide by any script now that her ABC contract is done?

I don’t think she has to anymore, though just for social media peace she might want to stick to something resembling a script. Though…contract or not, actors and actresses may not want to burn previously built bridges with major studios and networks? Bobby clearly doesn’t care and has already stated from criticisms and JMo is getting more comfortable speaking her mind but it might take time (ie: another successful show/steady paycheck) to really spill some tea.

ParticipantJennifer might have had to sign something saying that she wouldn’t badmouth the show even after she leaves. That can happen with just regular jobs, so i imagine it might happen with any show. I can’t imagine though that she signed anything that had specific talking points, as in, she has to continue to pretend to support captain swan.
I think that Jennifer sometimes isn’t honest enough in these things because she is worrying about what people will say and really that is not a game worth playing. People get upset when she doesn’t answer questions, just as much as when she does, and when she says different sorts of things at different times, so if she just said what she actually thought all the time then she wouldn’t have this problem. I think the following talking points thing is nonsense and she just shouldn’t do it.
I think having an idea about what spoilers are allowed to be revealed and maybe an idea of what things they want to be brought up makes sense as talking points, but telling the actors that they have to lie about how they feel about things is just complete nonsense and the actors should not agree to do that. It does them no favors and does the show no favors. People like it when the actors feel like their own people, with their own points of view. I think that Jennifer cares too much what people think and how people respond to what she says and she should not.

ParticipantWith few exceptions like Bobby Carlyle, actors who want to get hired again have to be seen as diplomatic, so I can understand why Jen doesn’t want to burn bridges. It’s probably just not worth making more of a fuss than she does just by being in the public light. In a sense, she’s right that she can only work with what is put in front of her, (i.e. the script). I can only surmise, but she must have been just as confused by the choice to kill off Neal, Henry’s dad and Emma’s true love, on a show all about the power of true love and family. In a way, MRJ was right that it was a “bold” writing decision in that they totally changed the show in S3b from what it had been.

ParticipantI just think there is a big difference between being diplomatic and what Jennifer does. I think that the other actors promote their nonsense just fine by talking about what is happening on the show and yet are still able to talk about these other relationships in honest ways.
Lana talks about swanqueen and is still able to talk about the relationship with Regina and Robin as well. There are ways to be honest and still be diplomatic. I think that Robert is diplomatic even though he says that killing Neal was a mistake. He isn’t calling the show trash or anything because there are other things he likes about the show like Rumpel and Belle though he also finds that problematic. I just think that the way Jennifer says nothing and tries to push it off on the show does her no favors.
There are ways for her to say i think it would have been interesting to develop Emma and Neal’s relationship or to even talk about how they were true love’s on the show, something she has done in the past, without trash talking the show or trash talking captain swan. There are ways to support the LGBT fandom and talk about how interesting a storyline like swanqueen, something i think is just really out there, would have been without trashing the show. Especially now that it is no longer her job to support the canon.
I think that some actors do this much better because they still talk about the show and the canon and yet are still honest about what they think about their character and what they think about what happens on the show. I don’t think it is alienating to do that. I, also, have a hard time imagining Jennifer Morrison ever wanting to work for a show that was run by Eddy and Adam ever again.

Yes, but Lana and Bobby seem more secure to speak their minds and less concerned about how people react perhaps because they are very talented actors in their own right, and they also have supportive and cool fans for the most part. Jen might be on tip toes about what she says because of who is in her fanbase. We have to keep in mind how toxic some CS fans can be. There are a lot of BAs in that group. Jen is probably scared that they’d turn on her and send her death threats on Twitter if she said anything too positive about Emma’s relationship with Neal or even Regina. That could be why Jen uses coded language to describe SF and says how “special” Neal was to Emma. Of course, we all know he was special because he was Emma’s true love, something CS fans hate to admit and have spent a lot of energy trying to disprove. Just look at how annoying and immature some CS fans have been on Twitter about Jennifer’s professional choice to leave the show. Some CS fans even think she somehow owes it them personally to continue to play Emma Swan so CS can continue.

ParticipantI forgot to say when Henry brought the donuts to the group. I thought of how Emma and Neal love those jelly donuts. LOL
