He’s still in love with the idea of Emma, the image of the woman he’s built up in his mind. Every time Emma and Hook have spent any significant amount of time together, it’s always been under distress in a far off land where adventure and danger lurk behind every corner. And guess what? Danger can be exciting and cause the adrenaline to rush, which many people confuse with feelings of “being in love.

Those “circumstances” are also not what Emma wants in the long run. She wants “a day off.” She wants a house with a fence and a dog and probably a back porch where she can drink a glass of wine and watch Henry play on a swing set. In other words, she wants home. She is perfectly ok not fighting dragons or defeating giants or dealing with annoying immortal teenagers.

Yet, Emma and Hook have never really even really spent a “normal” day together on dry land. In fact, I think if Hook actually were to spend a good portion of time in SB or NYC without any pressing danger to face he’d eventually grow bored out of his mind!

This! When you think about how long he’s known her, how much time he’s actually spent with her, and the situations they’ve been in, he hasn’t had the opportunity to really get to know the real her. And he would absolutely be bored out of his skull if he was landlocked for forever. I’ve actually been wondering if they might have him make a comment about missing the sea and his ship when we see him riding a horse around FTL.

It is unavoidable and if the writers DO avoid it, I am going to be irate. It HAS to come up. Put aside shippy end-game-ness. This is a huge step in the character development of Emma. She is walking in Neal’s shoes. She has to be able to see that and then at least TALK to him about it.

They have suggested that the topic of Emma having gone to jail will be coming up again at some point. Wonder if that could have something to do with the aftermath of her remembering everything and making this realisation?

    The Story of a ship

Too long to post all of it so I left the link, but I love this:

… and it can handle all of your punches.

OMG I saw that last night and it ROCKED MY WORLD because it’s so true! This is definitely not a ship for the timid or weak hearted but I think we’ll be survivors and get to see some happiness eventually, just like Emma & Neal have done and are doing on the show. Throw us anything….we can handle it! We may need therapy after it’s all over but we can handle it, LOL 😆

I really hope so and hopefully in the midst of that story, we can also learn who sent Emma to prison and what happened to Neal in the immediate aftermath of leaving her behind. Something happened between the time he left her and when he met August in Canada (the show even states that it’s been two months). It’s also been suggested that he did go look for her but realized that bad things would start happening if they were together so I’d like to see that part of the story too. I really don’t want them to leave stuff out….this is important history we’re talking about here! It’s vital to their story as PEOPLE, not just as a couple, and it really needs to be addressed at some point this season.

I have hope that when Emma gets her real memories back, she will see Neal with new eyes. She’ll understand what it means to make a huge self-sacrifice for the sake of someone she loves. She was already beginning to do so in Neverland, as evidenced by her understanding he was a lost boy who gave up on hope, just as she did as a lost girl. She also told her parents that she was angry about the fact that she lost Neal the first time because she now realizes that he never stopped loving her either. She gets it!

Does this look like a woman who is “over Neal”? No! They have a very deep understanding of one another as no two other characters do or could. Yes, Emma is scared of opening herself up again to the idea of love, but she loves Neal! She is pissed that she didn’t get a second chance with him, and when she did see him again, she was scared to death she’d lose him a third time (which it turns out, she did)! Emma just needs a day off with Neal to talk about it. But have faith, their date at Granny’s was just delayed, not canceled! “This isn’t over!”

Ya know, with no Neal in NYC, if she does use their dreamcatcher in any way to restore her memories and help break the Curse, she’s gonna do that all on her own. She won’t even need him there in order to remember him, and the love she has for him. Which I think will make it more powerful, because he won’t be there to influence her, which means anything she remembers feeling for him, it’s gonna be completely her own decision. And then she gonna go find him again, and we’re gonna get the best reunion hug ever.

It’s sort of an unavoidable consequence, given the situation they’ve set up now. This NewCurse sucks for SF because they’re separated and she doesn’t remember him, but it’s beneficial for SF because she’ll ultimately be able to understand him on a whole other level. Like, there’s really no way around it, she’s been in almost the exact same situation he was, so if she was still holding onto any sort of animosity over how he’d left her, after this experience, she’ll get it, and that animosity will evaporate, and they’ll bond over their shared experience, and it will bring them closer together.

I think that any anger Emma felt once is no longer directed at Neal but at fate for making her the savior in the first place. Fate brought and her and Neal together, but she had this nagging suspicion that she couldn’t lower her guard in 3×10 to meet Neal for lunch, because “something bad” was about to happen. When Emma recovers her true memories, she’ll know what it’s like to walk away form people she loves for the sake of someone else (i.e. Henry). She fully realizes that Neal has always loved her and never wanted to sacrifice their dream of Tallahassee, just as she still longs for that dream to become reality.

Ya know, with no Neal in NYC, if she does use their dreamcatcher in any way to restore her memories and help break the Curse, she’s gonna do that all on her own. She won’t even need him there in order to remember him, and the love she has for him. Make that a reunion kiss and I’ll be bowled over by joy! Also, I agree about Emma and the dreamcatcher, since it would be a powerful way to show that even when Hook shows up instead of Neal, Emma is inexplicably still drawn to Neal! Neal could send Hook in his place to lift Emma’s curse, and yet Emma still winds up thinking of Neal. That is why I say as long as Neal is in the picture, Emma would never really be content with anyone else.

Hi everyone! I’m new! Been lurking for a few weeks actually, but have a hole in my heart after “Going Home” that I just had to come out of hiding and commiserate with other SFers. Please forgive me if I bring up things that have already been discussed. I’ve tried to catch up on the last dozen pages or so, but there’s just so much to talk about!

On something that Phee was saying a few pages ago, it’s my hope that over the last year Hook and Neal have come to at least some sort of understanding, if not actual friendship. So when they need someone to go find Emma and Henry Snowing wants to send Neal as the obvious choice, but that’s when it comes up that Emma believes Neal sent her to jail, and without her Storybrooke memories, she’d still believe that (and IIRC Snowing doesn’t know that fact, right?). Instead Neal sends Hook with his blessing, and gives Hook evidence to help Emma believe, ie, the location of his apartment where the dream catcher is. If he can’t be there with her, he can at least help Hook make her believe.

I also kind of hope that the minute everyone gets a handle on everything in the EF Neal is immediately off on some quest to try to get back to Emma and Henry (or is off on a quest with Belle to find Rumple, if they get a clue from somewhere that he’s not actually dead).

Also, I really really wish that before E&H had driven off across the town line Neal had gone over to the bug and at least touched it or something. Like a moment of remembrance of what it meant and everything that was being lost at that moment. Though if that had happened I probably would have sobbed.
