Here is my crack theory to make you laugh if you didn’t see it in Slurpeez’s thread   What if he is a “reborn” rumple–made himself extra tall and he’s not really THERE, it’s actually magic due to the scroll and Rumple is trapped inside the scroll.  The head kiss was fatherly perhaps?  No, I don’t really think that.  Though I like the fosterbrother named Henry idea the problem with that–Regina didn’t fog the memories of the entire world did she?  So whoever this guy is, either he was really in Emma’s past, or he is someone she meets upon arriving in NY from Maine, with the idea she just moved from some random small town in Maine where she and Henry spent his first 10 years, until she moved to Ny for some unspecified reason.   I am ok with another love interest, because really, I think what Emma has with Neal is unique and it would be highlighted by contrasting all fantasy (Hook) with all realistic (random guy) and then the one who has both (realistic fantasy). Or that’s how I see it.

I’d also be okay with this development, for the reason that it prevents Emma ever falling for Hook! I’d rather see Emma date a third person than see her develop strong feelings for the pirate. I believe there was a tweet from Adam in which he wrote: “there are some people who are right for you, some who are wrong for you, and some you just choose” (paraphrase). This actually suggests that Emma might choose a third person (at least in the short run). I’d like to see Emma as plain old Emma Swan, without any memories of the EF, for one episode. I’d like to see what it would be like if she were dating someone unconnected to fairytales. I’d like to see why Hook is wrong for Emma without her actually falling for him, and for Emma to be involved with someone other than Hook. Of course, I think once Emma gets her memories back, then she would eventually pick the person who is right for her, Neal.

I was thinking about a spoiler image from 3×12.

Knowing what we do now about the curse, Neal returned to the Enchanted Forest with the Charmings.

I was just thinking how distinguished Neal looks in this outfit, almost like a member of the gentry class. Do you think that Charming and Snow appoint him as nobleman? He probably inherited Rumple’s dark castle and fortune. His clothing appears expensive with the fine-woven cape and leather coat, gloves and suede pants. Also, Neal’s royal blue cape is almost suggests an elevation in his status from a peasant boy to a landed gentleman, perhaps even with a title! I was also thinking about the significance in coloration of Nealfire’s brown EF costume:

    Source:

The color brown is a serious, down-to-earth color signifying stability, structure and support.

Relating to the protection and support of the family unit, with a keen sense of duty and responsibility, brown takes its obligations seriously. It encourages a strong need for security and a sense of belonging, with family and friends being of utmost importance.

In the meaning of colors, brown is the color of material security and the accumulation of material possessions.

The color brown relates to quality in everything – a comfortable home, the best food and drink and loyal companionship. It is a color of physical comfort, simplicity and quality. From a negative perspective it can also give the impression of cheapness and stinginess in certain circumstances.

Brown is friendly and approachable. It is loyal, trustworthy and dependable in a practical and realistic way.

In color psychology, brown is honest, genuine and sincere. It relates to the hardworking, the industrious and reliable, with both feet planted firmly on the ground.

It is sensual, sensitive and warm, engulfing one in a feeling of calmness and comfort.
It is a practical and sensible color which implies common sense. It hides the dirt!

The color brown is associated with wholesome, natural and organic produce and anything related to the great outdoors, agriculture and farming.

Brown is a frugal color – it is not associated with frivolity, excess or waste in any form. While it is materialistic, it values quality above all else, and everything in moderation.

Some browns can show a degree of sophistication or elegance, depending on other colors associated with the brown. For example, brown with a soft white or ivory can appear stylish and classy, although more casual than black with soft white or ivory.

Brown suppresses the emotions, creating a safe haven from the stresses of the outside world within which problems can be contemplated and solved.

Brown is a color of structure, although by no means does it encourage perfectionism – rather it encourages orderliness and organization.

The color brown gives reassurance. It is quietly confident but never the life of the party! Brown does not seek attention – it prefers to stay in the background, allowing other colors around it to shine.

Brown is solid with strength and maturity. It prefers to function in its own safe little world – it is not carefree and spontaneous and doesn’t like surprises. It can be considered dull, boring and unexciting by many. In fact it is one of the least preferred colors in the western world, along with orange and yellow.

Doesn’t that description of brown line up exactly with Neal’s character? He’s loyal, sincere, warm, and practical. He doesn’t put on airs, but he looks to be a man of wealth now. He puts family first! I just wish Emma could take a gander at handsome Nealfire in his fairytale attire!

Interesting!! Cause everyone seems to go back to what they once were: Snow the princess, Charming the prince, Regina the EQ, Belle in her ballgown. Except Neal. Neal seems to have elevated himself; we all noted how very prince like he was

    Well that’s just Neal to a “T”

I think Emma will see him like that!!

    Also…YOWZA.

I know, sounds a bit bogus, but this color description of brown might as well be a description of the man Neal has become.

Brown suppresses the emotions, creating a safe haven from the stresses of the outside world within which problems can be contemplated and solved.

This is interesting, because Neal often gets faulted by critics for not showing enough emotion. Yet, according to this color psychology, brown is associated with contemplation and reassuring, which Neal is!

The color brown gives reassurance. It is quietly confident but never the life of the party! Brown does not seek attention – it prefers to stay in the background, allowing other colors around it to shine.

Also Neal is a nutshell. He has Emma’s back, even when he is not there, in the form of his cutlass. Unlike Hook, Neal does not seek to draw attention to himself. Instead, he quietly offers confidence and hope to Emma so she can focus on the mission of saving their son and shine as a leader. [/quote]

Brown is solid with strength and maturity. It prefers to function in its own safe little world – it is not carefree and spontaneous and doesn’t like surprises. It can be considered dull, boring and unexciting by many. In fact it is one of the least preferred colors in the western world, along with orange and yellow.

Again, the description matches Neal! Neal has developed into a mature, strong, capable man. Both Neal and Hook are centuries old, and yet Hook persists in acting immaturely. Many times, I’ve noted how selfishly Hook seeks attention and sulks when he doesn’t get it. By contrast, Neal is capable of buckling down and getting the job done. He may not be flashy, and some may consider him dull and boring, even unpopular, just like the color brown. Yet, he maintains he quiet confidence. He speaks words of hope to Emma that he will see her and Henry again and gives assurances that it’s not over between them.

I was having a convo today in the forums in another thread about this, but clothing is used to tell a story. Neal’s clothing are in some ways very grown up Bae (with the scarf and the colors) but they are heightened to a level of sophistication. So no. Not bogus.

Yes. Also known as the entire NL journey after Neal was alive.
