“Death cannot stop true love. It can only delay for a little while.”

I love Princess Bride! It’s so many wonderful warm fuzzes when two of your favorite fantasy genre collide 🙂

I just have to share this here, even though I’ve shared it elsewhere. 🙂

After the way their last interaction ended, I can’t see any way in which they wouldn’t end up together. Will be very surprised especially if they end up with different partners…

It’s what I think makes the most sense from a storytelling perspective.

They started out young and blissfully in love, had big plans for their future, then had them ripped apart by an outside force. Then against all odds, they ran into each other again 11 years later, but had Neal’s fiance there as a plot device so SF couldn’t really address all their unresolved stuff from 11 years ago. Then it turns out the fiance is evil, so she’s not really a solid barrier to them getting back together after all, but in the same moment that’s confirmed, they get ripped apart AGAIN by a force they can’t control. Now Neal’s gonna find a way back to her, this time it’s not accidental that they’ll see each other again, there’s actual, determined will that’s gonna see them reunited this time. And maybe there’s gonna be a Hook in the way, given the relationship Neal has with Hook, and the relationship that Emma has with Hook, even if that doesn’t turn romantic, it’ll still be a point of contention for Neal and Emma.

Why would they write a story that throws so many obstacles in the way of SF if it wasn’t build up for them eventually, finally, overcoming it all and ending up together?

    Exactly. Very well said.

I whole heartedly agree and I suddenly have the song “A Girl Worth Fighting For” from Mulan running through my head as Nealfire’s theme song for season three, LOL 😉

If true love were easy, then everybody would have it.

ALL OF THIS! *runs away sobbing from FEELS*

Keeper of the Cheshire Cat’s smile, Baelfire’s sword, Snow’s backpack, Robin Hood’s bow, Ariel’s purse, Ariel’s smile, Henry’s heart, Belle’s shoe collection

So this is actually a very common theme in fairy tales. It’s the dreaded dragon before True Love sort of deal. Think of all the Disney Princess stories you know. They all have something standing in the way of true love. And this inst just Disney’s creation, it’s part of the fairy trope.

Snow and Charming = the sleeping curse (death) and The Evil Queen
Aurora and the Prince = the sleeping curse and Mal/Dragon
Little Mermaid and her Prince/Eric = she’s a mermaid and the Sea Witch/Ursula
Aladdin and Jasmine = Jafar, Aladdin’s station in life
Belle and the Beast = his anger, Gaston

I’m not saying Hook is the equivalent of those, but he is in the path. We already know they love each other. But you have to fight for it. Neal will fight for her.
