ParticipantNeal would be redundant…He fake died already so we’ve already seen everyone’s reactions to his death.

KeymasterI agree that Neal’s death is super redundant. We just spent 222-306 thinking he was dead and then they find out he is. *sigh*

Participantall of those who think that Hook should do something heroic…. I am not sure I like that. he has been pretty horrible throughout the story:
1)ripping Bae’s mom away from him (even though I’m sure SHE was the guilty one here, he KNEW she had a son so why didn’t he al least convince her that she should visit sometime. it’s not like Rumpel was the dark one then it’s not like there would have been any danger AT ALL! until Bae turned 14 and was going to be taken to his death.
2) he bullied everyone (Rumpel pretended to be a nobody when bumping into Hook and before Hook realized he crossed paths with the Dark One himself, he was very cruel to him and bullied him
3)he hurt Belle multiple times. he would have thought nothing of killing her if Regina didn’t stop him
4) he sided with Cora, who would have killed Snow/Emma/Mulan/Arora and ripped Arora’s heart,
the list can go on and on, and all of this was to get revenge and kill Rumpel. so to suddenly have him become the saint… I just don’t know… there’s still so much he needs to apologize for!
the only way it can maybe happen or that he would give his life for anyone is if they give him first a lot of screen time to talk about his regret and maybe have him learn something from Rumpel’s example.
maybe now, that he isn’t blinded by Milah and revenge, he can think with his head on straight and realize that it’s always been Rumpel who truly loved Bae, not Milah. he’d realize that it’s always been Rumpel who was the brave one, who sacrificed EVERYTHING – even his good name (became the village coward)- for his son, (not to mention his dignity – [he didn’t duel with hook so that Bae would at least have a father if not a mother]- and his soul – [he became the Dark One], and then his life) and that it was really Milah and himself who were the cowards.
if Hook doesn’t understand this and admit to it, I don’t see him as a hero no matter what. a true hero takes a step back and acknowledges his mistakes and admits that his former enemies are better than him.
Oooh! Maybe Hook will do something that will bring Gold back. Maybe someone will have to sacrifice their life in order to save Gold from some terrible fate, maybe a fate worse than death of some sort, and Hook, who probably feels bad for destroying Rumpelstiltskin’s life (who knows what OTHER deals he made with Pan that were meant to hurt Rumpelstiltkin? maybe even before he met Milah?) what can possibly be a more COMPLETE redemption than to give another chance at life to the one who he spent his entire life trying to destroy?

ParticipantIf it’s Neal, then Rumple can’t have his happy ending. Would A&E really destroy Rumple that way? If it’s Henry, no one gets a happy ending since Regina, Emma, and Neal won’t get over the death of their child and Rumple, Snow and Charming will be devastated so see their children suffer. If one of the major story arcs of the entire series is Rumple’s redemption, his path back to being a good man, then killing Belle defeats the goal. Phee and Slupeez made interesting points about the actual ratings not matching the massive Hook push put forth by ABC marketing so the argument, “But he’s so popular!” might not get Hook anywhere. I am sorry that a character is dying. If we’re at a point where a character is no longer needed then anyone can be put on “magical ice” on this show to return at a later point.
I loved Nasty Habits. Rumple saw his son in a whole new light and was in awe. 🙂

ParticipantWith regards to who might die, there has been a lot of foreshadowing if you look back on the past two seasons that Hook’s time might be drawing to a close. He’s been portrayed as being good at survivng for so long, that he’s just asking to be killed. Why else would the issue of his possible death/survival have been raised so many times ever since he was introduced? Maybe because he was intended to be written as a tragic anti-hero, one who meets an untimely death. Don’t believe me? I read this compilation on Tumblr
“Because that’s what I’ve always liked about you— you’re good at surviving.”
— Pan to Hook, “Good Form”“You’re not gonna die.” – Emma Swan, 2×06, to Hook
“You should know by now, the one thing I excel at is surviving.”
Hook, 2×20Hook: You’ll have to kill me first.
Rumpelstiltskin: I’m afraid that’s not in the cards for you, sonny boy.”
“The Crocodile” 2×04Hook: Oh, you’re going to kill me now? Go ahead. Try.
Cora: So brave. No, I’m not going to kill you. I have something far more satisfying in mind. “Into the Deep” 2×08“If I was going to pick dead guy of the year, I’d pick you.”
-Emma to Hook in 2.12 “In the Name of the Brother”A cursory reading might make it seem like Hook isn’t going to die precisely because he’s good at surviving, whereas a closer reading would suggest his ability to survive is going to end. The announcement that a popular character would be dying was announced exactly to the day of the the 1-year anniversary on which Emma called Hook “dead guy of the year.” It’s not a coincidence in my opinion

WOW
yeah that’s really interesting. He says he excels at surviving but it’s through trickery and being a pirate. If he’s not going to be that anymore, could he still survive? Hmmm. And it has been one year to the day since that quote…interesting

Exactly! I haven’t really commented on foreshadowing at this point because the spoiler was such a shock, but when you dig deep, with NO AGENDA, which I always try to maintain, even if it hurts or I find something I don’t like… it’s there.
On pg 433 I wrote about a friend I just spoke with about the spoiler. She’s a general viewer and not involved in any ships or any part of the fandom online at all, and she said Hook without batting an eye. She said as far as she could see, they’ve been setting him up for it… (you can read the whole story about halfway through page 433)Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.

KeymasterI have a story that’s more or less like Laurel’s.
the night the news came out I was with my mom at dinner and told her the spoiler that someone would die. Now, my mom just got into the show after getting caught up this summer. She literally knows nothing of fandom and I actually had to explain what a ship was. The first thing she said when I told her was, “Hook right? Shouldn’t it be Hook
Slowly but surely I’m feeling more positive.
