Interesting headcanon.
Yes, that’s interesting. It fits with what I was saying about Neal and Hook being literary foils like Hamlet and Fortinbras, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, or Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. Hook and Neal’s character contrast with one another; Hook’s motives are selfish while Neal’s motives are selfless. Hook helped destroy Balefire’s family while Neal tried to save the Darling family. Hook locked Emma in a cage to try to prevent her getting home, whereas Neal allowed Emma to go to jail to get her home. Hook let Neal be captured by Lost Boys and let Tamara and Greg kidnap Henry whereas Neal scarified himself for his son. There are a lot of reasons why Hook sacrificing himself for his quasi step-son would be a very redemptive end to an otherwise self-centered existence.
