Just saw Jo’s post–that is why Tumbler can be a place of nastiness, and it helps to remind yourself that some of the fans who use it do tend to be a bit younger and more immature than the people doing this old-fashioned message forum thing.
So that accounts for some of it, though the graphics and videos people come up with are fun and worth seeing, I feel the quality of the character analysis end of it does tend to be very much like my middle school friends back in the day “OMG, he has on green, I have on green, he wants me not you, I’m cool you drool” flavor regardless of the ship or fandom. So don’t take it as something about the nature of any shippers generally as it isn’t. It’s more a Tumblr youth thing I think. (Now I feel so old and mom like saying that )…..Compmlaining here only would ruin the wonderful and welcoming feel of this place I think, but I understand what you mean. I have no idea about the following /unfollowing thing.

October 2, 2013 at 3:30 pm #213552RumplesGirlKeymasterTumblr is a unique world unto itself. To be fair, there is a lot of bashing on both sides. Lot of Neal hate from some sections of the CS squad–though not all. And a lot of Hook hate from the SFers–though again, not all. For maybe obvious reasons, triangles tear into the opposite love interest because it makes them feel that they have the better claim on who “wins”–this language bothers me because princess Jasmine says in Aladdin, “I’m not a prize to be won!” Triangles in TV are so uncertain that people latch on to just about anything as proof for or against a particular ship. It’s sad that big portions of the fandom are being reduced to squabbling children. *sigh* I said this to MysteryKat on Twitter the other day when we were collectively bemoaning the fandom: “We’re all Oncers. The rest is icing. Enjoy the cake”
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 2, 2013 at 4:46 pm #213562kfchimeraParticipantI understand not wanting to sift through a bunch of stuff supporting a half of triangle you don’t like, or feeling the need to defend your right to ship the half you do–but there are people who take their identity as part of a ship group way too far, and view with suspicion anything said by the other side.
It’s a psychological phenomena, and I found this excerpt to explain what I mean:
Groupthink
Groupthink is the tendency for a close-knit group to emphasize consensus at the expense of critical thinking and rational decision-making. In a groupthink situation, group members squash dissent, exert pressure to conform, suppress information from outside the group, and focus selectively on information that agrees with the group’s point of view.
Groupthink is more likely to occur when groups have certain characteristics:
High cohesiveness. Group cohesiveness is the strength of the liking and commitment group members have toward each other and to the group.
Isolation from outside influences
A strong leader
The intent to reach a major decisionGroup Polarization
The dominant point of view in a group often tends to be strengthened to a more extreme position after a group discussion, a phenomenon called group polarization. When a group starts out with a dominant view that is relatively risky, the group is likely to come to a consensus that is even riskier. This phenomenon is called risky shift .
Minority InfluenceA committed minority viewpoint can change the majority opinion in a group. Group members are more likely to be influenced by a minority opinion when the minority holds the opinion firmly.
Deindividuation
When people are in a large group that makes them feel aroused and anonymous, they may experience deindividuation. When people become deindividuated, they lose their inhibitions and their sense of responsibility and are not self-conscious about their behavior. Deindividuation is a major reason for the violence that sometimes happens in mobs.
I think its eery how well shipping groups and “bubbles” illustrate these group dynamics, though I feel because of RG’s role as moderator and the slightly analyical bent of some of us who are on active on the forums, who like to discuss/debate, besides the maturity thing I mentioned earlier, we also avoid some of that polarization/war mentality here more than the average user on tumblr.
Maybe I could go back to grad school and study shipping for social psychology…but I think providing spaces to encourage discussion not aimed at “debate” so much, but at countering negative stereotyping is a better way to feel the Oncer identity better than “don’t tag your hate” stay in your bubbles.

When will Neal and Emma be reunited on Once Upon a Time? —Anna
NATALIE: It’s going to be a while, Anna. We actually won’t even see Neal & Co. this week, but Episode 3 will bring us back to the Enchanted Forest. “Neal is going to, come hell or high water, get back to Neverland,” executive producer Edward Kitsis says, but Adam Horowitz adds that there will be a “wrinkle” in their story that will be revealed soon. Thankfully, Neal will find help in Robin Hood, who will repay his debt to Rumple via Neal. “Robin Hood’s story is just beginning,” says Kitsis. “We’re airing in two 11-episode pods. You’re going to get a little more into him in the beginning of this year, but we’re definitely going to get a lot of him in the second half. He’s a character we’re really excited about because he’s a thief, but he’s a thief with honor.” Does that mean I was right? Source: TV Guide"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. I don’t think so because it says “their” story and the real antecedent of that article is Neal and Co; it’s the “their”

I think the word “wrinkle” is in quotation marks on purpose. I suggested a few pages back on this thread that it could be referring to the novel “A Wrinkle in Time” in which people cross time and space to get to another world in search of a lost loved one. Maybe Neal and Robin Hood will go on an epic quest to somehow reach NL together to join up with Emma to help get back Henry.
