That is why I think the Captain Hook – Neal interactions are still forthcoming, at least I hope so. There is so much potential, and I think that the writers might be saving the best for last. According to Colin O’Donoghue, Hook still sees Neal as Milha’s son, whom he cares about in a paternal way.

Colin O’Donoghue: That relationship with Baelfire is very complicated. Hook really would have given up everything to be a father figure to Baelfire, and I think that even now, hundreds of years later, he still sees him as that little boy, and still holds him quite dear. Even though he gave him up to the Lost Boys, if Baelfire had turned around said, “I want to stay,” he would have done everything in his power to keep him. At the end of the day, Hook really truly loved Baelfire’s mother Milah and he still sees the mother in the boy. So it would be complicated, but I would be interested to see how he would react to that. [x]

Although Hook continues to act selfishly by trying to insert himself between Neal and Emma, I keep hoping that Hook will eventually do right by his so-called son figure. The fact is, it’s hard for him to change after hundreds of years as a pirate. We can’t expect him to totally become honorable overnight, can we? He still hasn’t honored the “bro-code” of not vying for the same woman as your “good friend” or son figure. But just maybe, it’s a lesson he’ll learn by the end of the season.

Colin O’Donoghue: “He’s quite different; he’s struggling with whether or not he should try to become this new person or not and that’s difficult for him because I think there’s a part of him that wants to try to do the right thing, but he’s been living with this hatred and revenge for hundreds of years, so it’s tough to let go of. That’s a real struggle for him.” [x]

Last autumn, Colin O’Donoghue gave an interview about why things are “complicated” and why the Hook-Swan-Cassidy dynamic is not your traditional love triangle:

In it we will see a younger version of him that may not be expected– but will it inform why he relates as much as he does to Emma (Jennifer Morrison)?

“I think the relationship that they have is sort of complicated because they both care deeply for Baelfire. Emma loves him, you know, and Hook was willing to give up everything to become his step-father– that figure. And in the first episode you see that he has kept his sword. Remember that he would have had to have kept that sword for hundreds of years, and he says to her– ’cause she said ‘Obviously you guys were quite close’– and he said ‘I miss him, too’. And he was very, very genuine about that. They always saw an element of themselves in each other anyway, I think, from when they went up the beanstalk, but in particular this sort of thing you know is kind of, they’re not that dissimilar,” O’Donoghue said. [x]

I think that Colin O’Donoghue finds the entire situation between Hook-Emma-Neal to be quite frankly, odd.

The cat’s out of the bag about Emma and Hook’s kiss. Were you aware that this was where this particular storyline was going?
I think it was always sort of in the background, that there would be a thing [between Emma and Hook]. Hook and Emma have this kindred spirits kind of thing. They really see themselves in each other and there’s no denying that there’s a spark between the two of them. Where the complication comes in now is obviously Hook would have given up everything to be Baelfire’s father and still sees him a little bit as that boy. At the moment when they kiss, they don’t know that Neal is in Neverland and they don’t know that he’s alive. They think he’s dead. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when all that [comes out]. It’s a weird situation. Hook was with [Neal’s] mother and now he’s kissed his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his son [Henry], so it’s sort of a weird situation. (Laughs.) [x]

Goodness knows I find it bizarre that Hook, who seduced Bae’s mommy would go for Bae’s baby mama. To me, it’s conceptually just really repugnant that Hook, who could almost be Hook’s step-grandfather, would try to sleep with Henry’s mother. WEIRD! I can’t wait for Emma to finally learn the truth about Hook being the lover of Neal’s mother. PLEASE let her find out soon.

I can’t wait for Emma to find out that it was Hook that Milah left Neal & Rumple for. I think once she make connection things will be very different on how she looks at things where both men are concerned but ultimately I do believe Emma & Neal will work things out and get back together

If somewhere deep inside that Hook still looks at Neal as Milah’s son and if Neal was in some kind of mortal danger then I think it’s highly plausible that Hook will let go of his selfishness and really could ultimately sacrifice himself for Neal so that Milah’s son could be happy. Which would be like Hook apologizing to Neal for all of the wrongs that he has done to him from breaking up his family as a child and giving Bae up to the Lost Boys in Neverlamd, etc. All if that could go along way into redeeming his character and nothing redeems a bad guy then by making a huge unselfish heroic sacrifice and what would be more unselfish & heroic then sacrificing his life for Neal in order for Neal to get his happiness with Emma & his son Henry Hence Hook’s poster “Believe That A Pirate Can Be A Hero” would most definitely come to pass and bring everyone involved in that triangle full circle

Just heard the news about Joanna, and it dawn on me what if its her that is on the receiving end of the spoiler that should not be name. Rose mentioned it was someone she hadn’t heard mentioned. And we know the little mermaid dies in her story? Or her and Eric wed and exit in wedding bless and lifelong joy. Who knows. LOL Kinda of bittersweet we can’t seem to keep any of these lovely ladies and I was hoping Belle and Ariel would be great friends.

I have to say you swanfire gems have given me a great deal of hope. I have my highs and lows but when you look at the narrative, it highlights Neal, Emma, and Henry, journey and story. Think about S3A, we had the swanfire family divided, Neal in EF, Emma on the Jolly Roger, and Henry with Pan. All three of these family members took the leap of faith, the one Rumple had mentioned. That has to mean something. I hoping by the season finale, we see SwanfireFamily take another major leap of faith together and do something powerful, wonderful, and magical!

sidenote: I was thinking about Neal in EF and Nasty Habits and his quick thinking and resourcefulness. He makes me think of Indiana Jones. Now have fun picturing Neal?MRJ in a fedora with a whip. (Yeah you won’t be getting any work done anytime soon. LOL 😉 )

I don’t mean to get everybody’s hopes up needlessly, but I have to ask. Ginny Goodwin just tweeted a picture of Jared Gilmore. Who does that person in the background by the window look like to you? Is he wearing a scarf? Am I just seeing what I want to see? The person is almost certainly a man, because I think I can detect facial hair. If only he’d turned a little bit more! Could he possibly be MRJ? Or is it Sean Maguire (who plays Robin Hood)?
